@martha79 it's so galling noticing that something has just gone out of date! Good save. I realised today we have 2 multipacks of tinned tomatoes, all expired 2022! Think I'll be binning them. Relics of Covid, ditto some tins of soup!

Stressybetty · 15/02/2026 19:39

I think during covid me and DH got very used to not going out anywhere as well as being nervous of going out and catching it.
You get very comfortable staying at home.
Still the same now really with working from home full time and worrying about giving MIL flu or worse.
I just don't feel the need to waste the energy going out.
Me and DH aren't from here originally and although we know people and colleagues we don't have friends here to see socially.

Oioiqueen · 15/02/2026 20:20

@CoffeeBeansGalore 6.5hr hours, I'd honestly go mad. I have weekly chemo and every other week have an additional immunotherapy. Both are only 30 mins thankfully. With multiple flushes through the cannula I'm usually out in 2hrs-2 1/2 hours and I'm so bored during that.

TeaAndStrumpets · 15/02/2026 20:22

@Stressybetty I think it was very sad for people living alone. But yes I've become accustomed to not going out, the PEM isn't worth it. I hope I can gradually get better. Before Covid I had cfs/me for many years but I could manage the odd trip out if I rested before and after. Now I am so much worse (covid related?) but perhaps I will get a bit better in time. I am a glass half full optimist!

Oioiqueen · 15/02/2026 20:32

I've been a bit quiet but have been reading through everyone's updates.

Bit of an up and down week so at times didn't feel appropriate to post. Started the week finding out that the immunotherapy has finished my thyroid off so I'm now on thyroid meds. Apparently this may explain my up and down moods and horrific periods. I'd put them down to chemo side effects but actually they might not be. Latest bloods show the medication hasn't started to kick in yet so hope I'll start to feel better soon. I've had a few dark thoughts but I'm still waiting on my psych referral to come through but I'm doing my best to sit with the sadness and bad thoughts. However in better news I've weaned myself off my last pain medication tonight so fingers crossed I stay off it for as long as possible. However I did feel some neuropathy after chemo this week so I imagine I might end up on something else shortly.

Kids are away on holiday with family this week for half term so DH and I have had a chilled out day doing jobs, watching films and eating all the bad stuff. We've kind of neglected 'us' recently with everything going on. It's been a lovely day at home with him.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 15/02/2026 20:51

@Oioiqueen Sounds a bit of a rough week. Hope things improve for you this week 🤞.

TeaAndStrumpets · 15/02/2026 21:33

@Oioiqueen glad you're having a bit of a breather. It's nice to chill sometimes.

Dozymoo42 · 15/02/2026 22:25

@Oioiqueen hoping that next week is a better week for you lovely

martha79 · 16/02/2026 11:05

Hope those of you that half-term applies to have a peaceful one!

I'm at work - had about two months off in the last five but am almost back to normal hours, mainly thanks to working from home and a very understanding employer. Am enjoying the quiet of lots of other people being off for half term this week.

Have my landlord coming round on Friday for a quick "check everything's OK" visit so am trying to do housework in small chunks throughout the week. Seriously considering a robot hoover as that's the worst job and I resent wearing myself out doing it.

Swanhilde · 16/02/2026 12:04

Feeling a lot better this morning so we nipped out for a coffee ☕

Back in bed now and will remain here for the afternoon. Planning a trip out tomorrow 🤞

Robot Hoover's are definitely the way to go @martha79

Stressybetty · 16/02/2026 12:05

@martha79 hoovering is definitely the worst along with wiping skirting boards.
Had a shower last night and have been freezing since, can't get warm.
Working from home with fan heater on and electric blanket wrapped round.
At least it's not raining currently.

TeaAndStrumpets · 16/02/2026 12:28

Agree about robot hoovers. When we first got ours it was satisfying/mortifying to see how much dirt and fluff it sucked up! It's pretty good for the majority of the floors but we still keep our ancient Sebo for edges and stairs.

TeaAndStrumpets · 16/02/2026 14:23

After finding Covid tomatoes I have done a brief audit and found bags of rice flour unused dating back to 2023! While I have been pretty well out of action DH has been dealing with putting away groceries, and I now realise he doesn't know about stock rotation! He's just been buying new stuff and putting it at the front. Oh well.

It is just a glorious day. Nice for half term. DD1 has five 12 year old boys for a sleepover tonight - she's brave!

StarCourt · 16/02/2026 14:31

I am (hopefully) finishing off my PIP renewal form. It’s taken
me weeks to complete and get all of the paperwork together to send with it, whilst I’m off work with stress and burnout.

That sounds stressful!

StarCourt · 16/02/2026 15:09

@TeaAndStrumpetsit really is

martha79 · 16/02/2026 15:17

Good luck with the form @StarCourt

Glad to see plenty of us are getting some sunshine - although I popped out at lunchtime and the icy cold rain appeared.

Robot hoover has been ordered - my back is deeply unhappy at trying to shove the big hoover around earlier. Plus a friend sent me a video of their new one, and I am sold. It arrives tomorrow and I can't wait - even if it makes enough difference that I just have to go round with the cordless one sometimes, that'll really help.

TodayIsatrickyone · 16/02/2026 16:06

Hello and welcome to all the new posters.

Hope everyone is having an okay Monday. About the same here so nice to have DH home again. Managed to use my scooter this morning to join him on a quick dog walk as legs still wobbly but it was nice to get some fresh air even if the ground was too wet to get far.

@StarCourt PIP renewal forms are a nightmare aren’t they. I understand they need as much info as possible and try to provide it but goodness me I always find the process so incredibly stressful and exhausting! Hope it goes smoothly for you.

@martha79 I hope the robot vacuum is a success. I keep thinking about one but currently have a young playful rescue dog who likes to leave her toys everywhere 😂 so I worry we’re a bit too cluttered maybe.

@TeaAndStrumpets lol at your grocery audit! I think it’s easy for things to get hidden at the back of cupboards!
My MIL asked us to empty her fridge a few weeks ago while she was away for a month and had forgotten to do it. DH found all kinds of out of date sauces etc.. there was a very old block of butter which she will probably grumble that we threw away. She’s definitely of the ‘Oh it will be fine’ camp! We had a very fun game of can you guess the date of the ketchup tbough!

Oioiqueen · 16/02/2026 16:50

@martha79
You'll absolutely love it. Ours is fab, we literally just scoop everything onto beds or onto the sofa and away it goes. I've literally just got to do the skirting boards with a brush attachment, the stairs when they look bad and mop floors once a week. It saves me so much time and effort when fatigued. Honestly looks like we've had a cleaner in when we've used it.

TeaAndStrumpets · 16/02/2026 18:32

@Oioiqueen I read on MN about people's problems with cleaners and wonder why they don' t just automate it all! I've never had one. DD1 did when she was more flush and she was always too embarrassed to query anything she wasn't happy with! The only thing I would happily pay for would be for someone to change the bed and put on lovely ironed sheets!

Stressybetty · 16/02/2026 19:24

Which robot hoovers have you all got? We nearly bought a Eufy one a couple of years ago but didn't think it would cope with the dog hair.

TeaAndStrumpets · 16/02/2026 19:36

@Stressybetty we've got a Roomba which is very old and very basic. The newer models are self- emptying which would be brilliant! I think the manufacturer has been taken over so I don't know if that will affect quality.

TeaAndStrumpets · 16/02/2026 19:38

To add, we have an AEG Animal cordless upright vacuum which has a button to press for chopping hair! Might be good for dog hair.

TeaAndStrumpets · 16/02/2026 19:43

Part 3 (!) I bought an AEG Animal for DD1 and found out the newer models have a hose for tools etc,. Unlike our old one. When/if our Sebo dies we'll get an upgrade because it's so heavy on stairs.

TeaAndStrumpets · 16/02/2026 19:47

I sound like a madwoman with three vacuum cleaners!
