I'm sorry you're going through this @FurForksSake but as @TeaAndStrumpets says, so glad she's in the best place she can be.

I tried desperately to get my Dad in a hospice and failed. They said he wasn't ill enough yet. He died 3 days later. It'll be three years ago this week.

That must have been a very traumatic time. So sad for your family. Do you think it contributed to your illness, or is it a rotten coincidence?

MewithME · 21/03/2026 10:14

Thanks @TeaAndStrumpets . I already had MEcfs. I got through it on adrenaline I think. I don't think it did much to my illness in the end, thankfully. It was certainly traumatic. I think trauma contributes. I think my trauma of bad marriage and years of stress with that was the bigger factor.

@martha79 it's frustrating to hold back but it is the only way to eke out the energy. I wouldn't normally plan to be out on consecutive days but the dentist and hygienist are a yearly thing and difficult to change if I want to see them both on one trip, and two other appointments popped up too. It's like buses!

You did well to get through it. I always worry that I am unfit for any future stress but people do cope. I suppose at some point your ex won't be involved in your life so you can bin the memories. It's difficult with children I know, you have to maintain a facade for their sake.

TodayIsatrickyone · 21/03/2026 11:13

A difficult time for you @FurForksSake but the early birthday celebrations sound like a lovely idea.

@MewithME that does sound traumatic for you and I think anniversaries always make us relive these times.

@TeaAndStrumpets & @martha79 resting before appointments is such a pain isn't but absolutely necessary. It’s been a blessing to have no appointments this week.

@Swanhilde enjoy your catch up with your friend.

I braved making a hair appointment for Monday after a few better days so hoping I can get it done. I had to have a passport pic done this week, I made an effort to dry and style my hair. In real life I thought it looked good, only the passport pics came back showing an old, knackered looking woman with long thin straggly hair. No idea who she was! 😜 Hopefully the hairdresser can make a difference!

Morning all. Gorgeous here this morning. Just gutted I can't get out & enjoy it.
For those that can have a lovely day 💕

FurForksSake · 21/03/2026 11:26

Morning, @MewithME we feel very lucky, it’s a hospice we’ve fundraiser for a few times in different ways as it’s the big one in our town/city and has gorgeous views of the lake.

I’ve been sorting seeds for the allotment. I need to get dh to help me mix seed compost and the bits that go in it and get stuff started. Mil had taken it over the last few years and it made her so happy, I want to make sure we keep up what she started.

FurForksSake · 21/03/2026 11:26

I meant to say @MewithME that must have been awful and I’m so sorry it happened like that.

TeaAndStrumpets · 21/03/2026 11:27

@TodayIsatrickyone I have an old lady in my mirror too! I am generally a blur when I see my reflection so photographs are a nasty shock. I am seeing the ophthalmologist on Monday and will need to tell him what power lenses I want for my cataract op. I've decided to go for a reading power then I can have varifocals on top for distance. I read for hours every day so it seems to be where the need is.

Dozymoo42 · 21/03/2026 12:00

Happy Saturday everyone loving that the sun is shining!

ouch @Swanhildehope it isn’t too painful!

@FurForksSake so sorry about your mother in law lovely , my family also reacts in the exact same way when we have anything horrible going on the sarcasm and inappropriate jokes get us through the tough tImes - I’d dread to think what people would say if they heard us sometimes! But as you say looking for light in a situation and I think it is never a bad thing.

Little bit tired today busy day at work followed by a late night watching the new peaky blinders film, now in bad books with my daughter as I did not wait to watch it with her 🫣couldn’t resist though and really enjoyed it !

TodayIsatrickyone · 21/03/2026 12:02

That sounds like a good plan re cataracts @TeaAndStrumpets I got varifocal glasses a few years ago now and if I take them off, everything is soft focus so yes probably why the photo didn’t look too bad on the screen!

I'll set a new one up in a bit 🙂

Morning everyone. @FurForksSake Echo what everyone else said and hope you have lovely birthday celebrations for her.

Its such a beautiful day and I can hear people mowing their lawns. I need to do the same but think I will try half tomorrow and half on Monday. Will sit in the garden later if I can find the energy to pull some chairs out of the shed.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

@Tiredandwired2 I'm outside with a cuppa. I was sat on the outdoor beanbag but I have slid off ...now semi lying on the rug (moved it outside so doesn't get covered in hair from DS getting it chopped shortly) and could happily doze on the sunshine if I wasn't going to have to get up for the hairdresser 🙂

That sounds perfect! You have convinced me to pull my zero gravity chair. I could do with a little box on the patio to store it instead of the spider infested shed at the top of the garden 😂

I have a super duper outside chair which we store in the outside loo. I am sure there are spiders there. The chair isn't zero gravity (they do look fab) but well padded and easy to adjust. When we bought it DH was so horrified by the price he refused to buy any matching ones so I sit in queenly splendour while he sits on an old wooden chair 😎

martha79 · 21/03/2026 12:49

@TodayIsatrickyone I don't know who these people who turn up in our passport photos are! I had to get mine done not long after a horrible breakup and I look horrendous - although I've always said it's probably pretty accurate for things like early morning flights 🤣

I think you're right about the trauma contributing @MewithME - if Long COVID is a lot about the nervous system not feeling safe, I can definitely tie that in to a lot of things over the last few years that made me vulnerable. Not least having COVID and being the most ill I've ever been, whilst living alone, and having to call an ambulance for myself.

Have trimmed my hair and marvelled about how much more grey/ white there is. I can't face dyeing it between the effort and the chemical smells so I guess I'm embracing the grey now. I'm actually ok with that now it's coming through more white - last time I grew it out I wasn't keen on the colour.

I love the sound of everyone's garden furniture - really need to sort mine out!

FurForksSake · 21/03/2026 12:50

Dh and the kids mowed the lawn, it looks lovely. We are in need of new lounging chairs, I might have a look.

i have bought some new bird feeders, so that’s good.

I’m watching the pesky blinder film, I hope it’s good!

TodayIsatrickyone · 21/03/2026 13:03

I also spent what seemed like an obscene amount despite being in the end of summer sale on a pair of reclining padded chairs a couple of years ago bow but they still give me joy! I use them for as long as I can through the year before storing and most days in the summer so I definitely have had my moneys worth. DH or DD only use them occasionally so I currently have them set up in two different sun spots to save me moving them! I have been known to sit out in a coat with a blanket and cuppa though even in February so I probably get more use than most. Just getting outside with a cuppa makes a big difference to my day and mood!

TeaAndStrumpets · 21/03/2026 13:05

@martha79 that sounds so scary. You were lucky to survive that.

I always think my scattered grey hairs would cost a fortune if done at the hairdresser as highlights. A few have started to gather as a streak which again looks fine (or I'm deluded!)

I have a fabulous white streak which I'm told gives me a Caitlin Moran kind of look. I love it. No inclination to dye it at all.

Sadly the haircut went badly for DS. No 'shade' as the young uns say, on his hairdresser but he just had a big meltdown about it. Autism and haircuts are such a hard combo. He's been great for ages but it got too heavy and he suddenly got upset at how much was cut off even the didn't want it that long. He has beautiful hair and it would look amazing if he was able to have it properly styled but he can only cope with so much. His hairdresser is so kind and understanding with him. It's v sad to see him so upset.

@TodayIsatrickyone my outdoor oodie is fab for outdoor sitting in winter. I absolutely love it. This winter has been so wet though so haven't even managed that for ages.

I semi regret the beanbag because it really belongs to DS for gaming and it's too big and ugly but it is very comfy and I love it in summer ⛱️
