Quite a few years ago now @CoffeeBeansGalore which is maybe why I feel a bit anxious about the upcoming one but then I look back at the photos now and then and remember how fabulous it felt just to be there as I was pretty much housebound back then. We’d spent years waiting for me to improve just a bit so we could maybe take the kids abroad somewhere then realised that improvement may just never happen so we needed to find a way of working with how I was.

@JewelleryCat I like Baylis and Harding too! I was surprised to read someone saying they were naff on a xmas thread here as I’d never heard that but mumsnet can be a bit judgy 😊

MewithME · 22/02/2026 16:30

@TodayIsatrickyone MN can be judgey 🤭 never a truer word ! It's very well off in general so there's some sneery comments when things aren't premium brands I think. Lidl handwash is really nice too ! Though I've gone back to soap.

Ha ha! ‘Judgy’ was trying to be polite 😂 feel free to swap it for whatever word comes to mind! 😜
We just like a bargain in this house so DH often just picks up whatever is on offer!

Tiredandwired2 · 22/02/2026 18:47

I too would love a cruise. The Norwegian fjords is a dream of mine too. I mentioned it to my mum last year and she said 'you won't be able to do that'. I was so annoyed she just didn't let me dream. I think a cruise is the most fatigue friendly holiday.

I love watching travel videos and think I would love to travel but in reality with POTs and the heat intolerance I think it would be really miserable. For now anyway.

@TodayIsatrickyone How nice to have an upcoming cruise. Though I do get the anticipation about how it will go.

The day has flown by. Just had an easy dinner (Tuna mayo) and going to watch BGT with DD once she is home.

Fancy something sweet so I'm going to make myself a microwave cookie in a mug 😋

MewithME · 22/02/2026 19:16

I'm absolutely shattered. Had a small nap this afternoon. In a bit of pain now. Even though I haven't done much, doing some laundry and cooking twice feels a lot today. Work tomorrow again and it's a super busy one though I will not be going over my hours this week!

TeaAndStrumpets · 22/02/2026 20:16

I was inspired by the spring sunshine to change the duvet, but by the time I'd emptied the drying rack and folded and put away the clean laundry I'd just had enough. The duvet will keep until tomorrow!

Cruises sound lovely. I haven't had a holiday for years and years. The last time I stayed in a hotel was about 8 years ago when DD2 got married, and we checked out early afterwards so I could get back home before I crashed. I managed to be upright for the day which was what really mattered!

MewithME · 22/02/2026 20:27

@TeaAndStrumpets leave it another day at least. 😊

Thread 6? Good grief..what are you up to today if you have chronic illness?

@TeaAndStrumpets how is your foot now?

@TeaAndStrumpets how is your foot now?

Much better thanks! I've got some dressings I can change myself and just keeping everything dry. No bandages now so easier to find shoes that fit!

That’s really good to hear that it’s all healing nicely 🙂

FuzzyPuffling · 23/02/2026 08:23

We haven't had a holiday since 2013, which is sad. But we did live in Cornwall for 7 years after that, which some might consider "holiday". ( It's not- we moved!)

I have got hippeastrum/amaryllis to flower, but not every year. You have to put them in a dark cupboard for a couple of months in the autumn.

TeaAndStrumpets · 23/02/2026 08:42

@FuzzyPuffling I just know if I put something in a dark cupboard it would disappear forever....brain like a sieve! I keep finding Nigella seeds in paper bags from years ago! Fortunately I managed to remember to give the last lot to DD1 and they have self seeded beautifully in her garden.

Holidays were never a big feature for us anyway, DH could only take two weeks off in summer so we did short breaks and caught up on household stuff. Took the girls abroad a few times because we thought we should, and had friends on the coast to visit for bucket and spade days. Later on I was never well enough.

martha79 · 23/02/2026 09:14

@TeaAndStrumpets glad your feet are healing well.

I know exactly what you mean about leaving things in dark cupboards - was looking for something yesterday and came across all sorts of garden tools and seeds I'd forgotten about (why did I buy a big bag of 'meadow' seeds? where did I think I was planting a meadow?).

Not feeling too good today - didn't sleep well again and suspect I'm still recovering a bit from Saturday's rehearsal. Working today but will be a lot of lying down between meetings I think.

FurForksSake · 23/02/2026 09:42

Morning! I’ve slept for about six hours in two nights. I’m going in to work for three hours from 11 and I’m vibrating. Goddamit. Not helping that mil is having a procedure for her cancer, dh has a cold, ds2 kicked off this morning as he was asked to wear school shoes and a jumper and they didn’t feel right and he didn’t want to eat breakfast because he felt sick and and and. And tomorrow I have gynae consultant and physio. I’m doing three lots of three hours this week m,w,f and then off next week. It’s nine hours but it’s also a week. And my supervisor is on holiday, so that longs out seeing her again.

Sorry, I’ve not caught up. Hugs to all!

JewelleryCat · 23/02/2026 09:45

Sunny bit windy here which is a lot better than rain

@FurForksSake that sounds a lot. Is there anything you can do either before or after work which would help you relax? Read, colour or even just watch mindless tv?

FurForksSake · 23/02/2026 09:50

@JewelleryCat im watching the news 🤣 I’d have rather have done 9-12 and I’m going to ask to do that Wednesday in our base and Friday at home (occupational health have said one day a week minimum at home).

im fully in waiting mode and im hoping that will be easier starting earlier.

martha79 · 23/02/2026 10:23

@FurForksSake that is a lot all at once and waiting mode is never fun. Sending hugs your way!

Stressybetty · 23/02/2026 10:24

@FurForksSake hope today at work goes ok for you. Maybe you'll sleep better tonight once the first time is over.

FuzzyPuffling · 23/02/2026 10:26

Sending hugs to all those that need them. 🤗

CoffeeBeansGalore · 23/02/2026 10:46

Morning all. Gorgeous day here. After so much rain it's lovely to have blue sky. I won't get out but it's nice to see through the window.

@FurForksSake oh wow. Not an easy time.

TeaAndStrumpets · 23/02/2026 10:49

Sending good wishes @FurForksSake hope the end of the week is easier than the beginning!

TodayIsatrickyone · 23/02/2026 11:10

Morning all, same old, same old here. Feeling crap, trying to do a bit of tidying, put on a wash, HR soaring so back to lying on the sofa til it settles. Still fed up as this crash seems never ending But it’s not raining 👏 I’ll take that!

Thinking of you @FurForksSake the first week is bound to be the hardest and sounds like so much else going on for you too.
The build up/ waiting time sounds like it’s been horrendous so hugs to you. But by the time you read this you’ll have done your first 3 hours so sending you a huge well done. However it went, however you found it, You did it!

Hope everyone can have okay days.

Dozymoo42 · 23/02/2026 11:24

Morning all , week off work for me this week the plan is to use it to rest as much as I can and to put things in place with family that allow this to happen for me.

Hugs for everyone who’s needs them and hopes for more gentle days for you all!

@FurForksSake extra big hug for you as I totally get the feeling of overwhelm when you seem to have more than your fair share of big life stuff going on and then normal life piled on top.

TeaAndStrumpets · 23/02/2026 13:30

Does anyone else get stupid allergies? I've been getting urticaria on my back and realised my favourite bra has worn through over the band. Previously the elastic was fully encased, now it is exposed and irritating. As a temporary measure I'm tucking a cotton hanky in under the band. I've spent hours looking at hypoallergenic bras on the internet, found some lovely ones for £80 odd quid! Maybe I'm mean, but I suspect the cotton hanky will be in use for a while!
