Baby Come Back by The Equals.

My aunt had ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ as her leaving song. I think it was a good choice.

Always look on the bright side of life.

My DH told us to play this at his funeral. So we did.

He was indeed - he had it planned for decades and would’ve loved the collective groan from everyone when it came on 🤣

Amazing. What a man!

I have asked for Popcorn by Hot Butter in my funeral wishes. I have warned my husband and children in advance. They appreciate my slightly off sense of humour.

While waiting at a crematorium a couple of years ago, Ding Dong the Witch is Dead was playing at the previous funeral. I wondered whether they asked for the song from the Wizard of Oz expecting Somewhere over the Rainbow and got that instead.

I’m having the newer version from Wicked which starts ….. GOOOOOOD NEEEEEWWWWWWSSSSS - SHEEEEES DEEEEEAAAAAD!

Alive by Pearl Jam

i think the refrain “whoa! I’m still alive” would cause some consternation

This was blaring out of my car stereo (and, naturally, I was singing along) just as a hearse carrying a coffin pulled up alongside me at a junction…awkward! 😂

My mum had the theme tune from Dad's Army! Not necessarily funeral music but she had been a big fan and would thoroughly have approved.

"We're all doooooooomed!"

That’s what I’m asking to be played at the end of my funeral, too.

Went to a funeral just last week that had, “come on baby light my fire” as the closing music, fitted the guys sense of humour.

I just saw a FB post from a macabre group (popped up in my feed). OP's mum had been discharged from a psychiatric hospital, went home, and set fire to herself. She died, but her daughter and family had a very dark sense of humour. Daughter asked the crematorium for a 50% discount as her mum had started the process anyway, and the song playing when her mum was walked to the front of the chapel was 'Firestarter' by Prodigy.

Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye.

My grandma had this at her funeral. She was quite adamant about it!

supersonicginandtonic · 14/02/2026 03:17

My aunt planned her own funeral. She came in to “Always look on the bright side of life” and then had “Ring of fire”, as the curtains closed around her coffin to be cremated. It got a lot of laughs and reminded everybody of the character she was.
She also had a bright purple coffin 😂

Good Riddance - Green Day

This was played at the funeral of a young person I knew. The title is so unfortunate, but the words are very poignant.

It's not up to me to tell a bereaved family how to grieve; but they sound rather unpleasant to my mind.

LlynTegid · 14/02/2026 11:26

Anything by Coldplay.

AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf · 14/02/2026 11:34

I don't get the reasoning behind some of the opinions on here. It seems that songs with nothing to do with dying or funerals are thus irrelevant and inappropriate; but then anything that IS about death and the practicalities of what happens at funerals is also automatically inappropriate!

Added to which most of the 'inappropriate' songs have been humorously chosen specifically by the now-deceased people for their own funerals deliberately because of their perceived inappropriateness!!

I know they're very much a marmite band; but I bet absolutely loads of people will choose All My Love for their funerals.

Although Dick Van Dyke is still very much with as at present (now aged 100), it doesn't take a genius to realise that it's intended as a touching early final tribute to a very elderly person in anticipation of the fact that they won't be here for a lot longer.
