Mini mozzarella balls, baby plum tomatoes (not cherry!!), basil leaves. Thread them onto cocktail sticks and bingo

Toosoon12345 · 13/02/2026 09:16

Sorry should have said friend is doing all the food, so it’s more of a gift or drink

A box of chocolates would be sufficient if it's a gift surely?

Do you have a Lidl nearby? Their praline seashells are under £5.

For how many? Is £5 the total budget? How casual is it?

Do you have any cooking skills? Time to prep things?

Depending on the above, are we talking nibbles or a dish/ dessert?

AliveAndLicking · 13/02/2026 09:31

Don't know what the vibe is but I've bought something like this in the past then put some fancy topping on them, put them in a cake tin and passed them off as homemade.

If she's doing all the food, what about a house plant? Or a non-alcoholic cocktail?

Buy three bunches of daffodils, put them all together and wrap a nice ribbon or bit of twine/burlap around to make into one bouquet. Nobody dislikes daffodils at this time of year

Love this idea. I would be thrilled at receiving this as a gift

plentyofsunshine · 13/02/2026 09:37

Honestly if your friend is doing the food just take a nice bottle of wine. I always look for a £10 wine thats on offer that week for £5 so at least I know it's a decent one.

Coffeeishot · 13/02/2026 09:39

Go to lidl, if you are near, buy some flowers job done i always buy lidl flowers they are so cheap you can get some for under a fiver and they last for ages.

mindutopia · 13/02/2026 10:13

The daffodils are a lovely idea.

Or some nice biscuits. I’d love a box of florentines and they are usually around £3-4.

Northumberlandisbest · 13/02/2026 12:32

Buy a roll of ready rolled pastry and a pack of sausages. Make sausage rolls. Home made are always best and if you use chipolatas you can make 24 mini sausage rolls. Wash with beaten egg before cooking for about 25 minutes.

TheChosenTwo · 13/02/2026 12:35

I would take a bunch of tulips, friend is providing all the food so I’d go with something completely different - tulips are my fave and are in supermarkets now.

teatum · 13/02/2026 12:58

Daffs are a really nice idea - only £1 a bunch in most supermarkets. Or a £5 bottle of Prosecco?

Bjorkdidit · 13/02/2026 13:39

All supermarkets sell cava from about £5 a bottle and that feels like a nice treat. I would get that.

where are you shopping to get a bottle of wine for £5?

Offleyhoo · 13/02/2026 14:36

I think a couple of bunches of daffodils put together and tied with pretty bit of ribbon you might have at home (all £2) + Florentines as someone said above. Your friend will be really pleased. It's not about the money 💐🍪🥰

Allthesnowallthetime · 13/02/2026 14:39

I like the daffodils idea!

Or - today I bought a very cute houseplant, in a ceramic pot, from Asda. £3.50.

Anndalouzier · 13/02/2026 14:44

Love the idea of us all having burlap around.
