Have a look in TK Max to see if any nice fancy soaps or those nice Italian chocolates in royal blue and silver.

Failing that as discussed big bunch of tulips or daffs

Monster6 · 13/02/2026 16:15

nice biscuits
appletise and own brand kettle style crisps
love the daffodils idea
olives and chutney (for later, i know host doing food)
fancy pink/rassbery lemonade

sweetpickle2 · 13/02/2026 16:42

Yeah just flowers or a bottle of plonk/box of chocs would be fine for this, and easy to get for a fiver.

Whatwouldnanado · 13/02/2026 16:47

I’d love the big bunch of daffs. Or better still a pot of bulbs. They come every year. Think Tesco do them for 1.99. And hostess won’t have to find a vase. Or get a packet of oatcakes and a lump of Brie.

TwinklyWrinkly · 13/02/2026 16:52

Can I just be a party pooper and mention that if your host has cats, to be very wary about flowers. Especially daffodils / lilies / hyacinths etc which are poisonous. Unless of course your host doesn't have cats, or cats that wouldn't eat flowers, in which case, definitely go with daffodils, they are pure sunshine and I don't know anyone who doesn't smile when they see daffodils!

From the header, I was all ready to suggest my multiple, cheap, canape recipes so I'm a bit deflated now 😆

Depending what they like: I love the bunch of daffs wrapped with a ribbon idea. - -Daffs or tulips growing in a pot
-Orchid or other indoor plant
-Dessert wine. No idea what this one is like but the reviews look great https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/sainsburys-house-sweet-white-75cl
-Box of florentines. They also go a larger, gifting box. https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/thomas-fudges-milk-chocolate-florentines

Do you have a Lidl nearby? Their praline seashells are under £5.

I think they taste like lard

Iwantsandybeachesandgoodfood · 13/02/2026 17:06

Nachos and dip is an easy one. Rose (Blossom Hill) goes down really well in my group of friends too.

menopause59 · 13/02/2026 17:45

Aldi candle or diffuser maybe

KnickerlessParsons · 13/02/2026 17:53

A bunch of daffs would be very welcome here.

BlueJuniper94 · 13/02/2026 19:05

I've heard Lidl have praline seashells for under £5

Flowers are nice, pot of hyacinths?

weewillywink · 13/02/2026 19:07

Bottle of Prosecco from Lidl or Aldi

canuckup · 13/02/2026 19:08

Homemade sausage rolls

LancashireButterPie · 13/02/2026 19:11

Came to say daffs bit I've been beaten to it!!
If you have a Waitrose near you their lavender shortbread is heavenly with some twinnings breakfast tea! (Or that biscuit tea!!).

LadyLapsang · 13/02/2026 19:51

A bunch of daffodils would be lovely.

MikeRafone · 13/02/2026 20:30

I brought a very lovely china mug in Tesco today

Lindt chocolates are reduced to £5 in tesco

MikeRafone · 13/02/2026 20:31

as for flowers - I always think tulips are nicer than daffodils, Aldi flowers are a good price

DudududuMV · 13/02/2026 20:45

I’d play the retro fun card and take two bottles of Smirnoff ice style alcopop. Morrisons had it at 2 for £5, the big wine bottle size bottles

Comedycook · 13/02/2026 20:48

Bottle of bucks fizz.... usually about £3.

The daffodils are a lovely idea.

Or some nice biscuits. I’d love a box of florentines and they are usually around £3-4.

If I was buying the florentines….theyd all be scoffed before I got to the friends house! They’re my absolute faves & I think they’d make a great gift.

SunandWine · 13/02/2026 20:56

Wine, daffs or tulips or a supermarket baklava selection (even Waitrose have some for £4).

blizymitzy · 13/02/2026 21:00
