Me , my husband and children went away for a weekend. I went into a retail shop, looked around with my daughter. I had a bit of a migraine had my sunnys on. I pickrd up some bits. I put alot of things on klarna as its intrest free. Anyway realised at the self check out that wasnt an option. My daughter was moaning , my husband was ringing me saying hurry up. So i was stressing!!! The lady that worked of the check out was lovely i askrd her a question because an item said it was cheaper but she was there when i scanned it incase it wasnt so she could take it off. When i finished i then was about to scan a bag and a different lady came over and said have u already scanned the bag i said no im about to. She said oo let me check something this till has been playing up. So she done something a got some sort of receipt. I scanner the back paid for it, put the other items back because they didnt have klarna so i thought not gonna get them all. Anyway as i was leaving i was just looking at the receipt thinking wha did she get out of my self scanner one ? I got in the car put my daughter in. And then off we went had my drink and something to eat then look in my bag. I bagged 3 items i didnt scan 😩😩 i am nowhaving a major anxiety attack thinking omg didnthe lady thought i stole???! Omg did they call the police ? Im i gonna be arrested ??? I have never stole in my life!! I called customer service & explained said can i pay over the phone. and they said take it back to a store near me. I have 3 major appointments( health related) this week so i cant make it this week. What should i do? Im freaking out. Has this ever happened to anyone and had police at there door for an honest mistake :( i feel sick to my stomach! My didnt someone stop me 😭😭😭

I'm struggling to understand any of that but you've called and explained and they were fine about it. If you're worried you can't make it this week ring again and say you'll return next week.

Seawolves · 09/02/2026 20:01

No-one has had the police at their door for this. Ever. Nothing is going to happen to you, you are not going to be arrested and you are not going to end up in court.

TheHillIsMine · 09/02/2026 20:04

You need to calm down.

Are you going to keep the stuff or take it back next week?

SargeMarge · 09/02/2026 20:04

Maybe take this as a wake up call on buying stuff you really don’t need on credit. This was causal shopping, yes? You didn’t need any of this stuff. But you planned to put it on Klarna as you didn’t have the money… so maybe just don’t buy any of it. Why are you getting into debt for “stuff?”

I don’t really understand what happened. You said you put stuff back, but you actually put 3 things into your bag after paying even though you didn’t scan those? Just take them back, find a time. The police aren’t going to bother with this even if they are called, so literally nothing will happen but you need to take them back.

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 20:05

@Seawolves im worried sick, i havent slept ! But how does this actually happen to people? Surely if they checked they would see it wasnt done on purpose at all. My partner went into a golf store which i really didnt wanna be in so he dropped us off. Wish i just went with him now :( if the police would come to my door would it be fast? Or if i return them next week ill beok? X

@TheHillIsMine i want to pay for them or return them. Its driving me insane i guess ive never been in this situation before x

KimuraTan · 09/02/2026 20:08

Shouldn’t put any regular shop on Klarna as you clearly can’t afford the items you bought. Take the surplus items back and explain the situation but I’d not worry about police at your door. I’d give the store a wide berth if you can’t return the items as they’ll likely keep CCTV footage of you and will stop you when you re-enter. Sorry if I misread your post.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 09/02/2026 20:08

This isn’t aibu

but you are being majorly unreasonable and hysterical

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 20:09

@SargeMarge i do have the money, but instead of having leave my account at once i just do it on klarna. I have money in my savings even but its intrest free and this is what i always use when i order online also. So the stuff i wasnt gonna keep i put back after i paid to one side. I had the bits infront of me and was scanning. My daughter was running off and i was running sfter then back to the till it was all just chaos

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 20:10

Please don’t teach your kids to put all their shopping in layaway.

There is an argument to be made to use a credit card in order to get the points, but then you pay it off same day in the app or in full when the bill comes. But Klarna has literally no use other than to get into debt for random junk you do not need.

Arlanymor · 09/02/2026 20:12

They said you could pay over the phone so why didn’t you? Not scanning three things is quite a big oversight.

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 20:12

@mumofoneAloneandwell has this ever happened to you before? Im thinking of even posting the items back with my details . Arghh its stressful x

Fupoffyagrasshole · 09/02/2026 20:12

Jesus op are you ok

massive over reaction

the police can’t even make it to actual crimes at the moment - let alone to come around to your house because you took an item out of a shop by mistake.

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 20:14

@Arlanymor they said i couldnt pay over the phone and to return to store.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 09/02/2026 20:15

OP - stop worrying. It’s fine. Take them back when you get a sec. Call the shop or customer services, explain your time constraints. Stop worrying, get some sleep tonight. Your method of payment is no one else’s business.

megacat · 09/02/2026 20:15

How did you manage to bag items you hadn’t paid for? Were you leaving a pile of stuff at the till for staff to put back? Why did you take so many things to the till that you weren’t sure about buying? None of it makes sense.

Was it the case that you were shoplifting and the lady taking the receipt from the till has made you realise later she was suspicious and you might get caught?

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 20:15

@Fupoffyagrasshole this is very true! Someone hut my parked car in the car park as i was putting my baby in the pram. I got the number plate and a witness and the police said no further investigation.

OP posts:
Ilikewinter · 09/02/2026 20:16

So why don't you just go back to the store and pay then? ..... or dont and forget about it.
How do the Police even know who you are or where you live!!! I'm not really sure why your getting so worked up about it

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 20:17

@megacat not at all, it was a very busy store! I wanted to see if they used klarna which i asked the lady and she said no. There is no need for me to steal. Me and my husband have good jobs earn enough money .

@Arlanymor they said i couldnt pay over the phone and to return to store.

Sorry the way you wrote it sounded like you could - I found it hard to follow your original post. If you’ve got appointments on three days of this week then you have four other days on which to return it don’t you? Make it a priority. This is your error and it’s up to you to fix it as soon as you can.

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 20:20

@Ilikewinter just because this hasnt happened to me before ever. The store is out of county but there is one about 40 mins away from me. I can return it next week but this week is very hard with appts after school clubs etx. I will return it but just worrying if not done pronto ill get in trouble.

Many years ago I walked around a clothing store with my young baby in the baby seat of a shopping trolley and a very chatty niece. I popped a baby item in the trolley at the beginning of the shop. By the time we'd looked around I'd forgotten I'd picked the baby item up and couldn't see it as my baby was obscuring the view of the trolley. I walked out without raising any alarms. It was only as I was walking towards the car I remembered. I went straight back and paid apologising profusely.

You're not the first and won't be the last to make a mistake. You've owned up and will go into the shop to pay as soon as you can. The police will not be knocking on your door

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 20:21

@Arlanymor yes it definitely is my priority to fix which i need to make sure i do! Thank you x
