Me , my husband and children went away for a weekend. I went into a retail shop, looked around with my daughter. I had a bit of a migraine had my sunnys on. I pickrd up some bits. I put alot of things on klarna as its intrest free. Anyway realised at the self check out that wasnt an option. My daughter was moaning , my husband was ringing me saying hurry up. So i was stressing!!! The lady that worked of the check out was lovely i askrd her a question because an item said it was cheaper but she was there when i scanned it incase it wasnt so she could take it off. When i finished i then was about to scan a bag and a different lady came over and said have u already scanned the bag i said no im about to. She said oo let me check something this till has been playing up. So she done something a got some sort of receipt. I scanner the back paid for it, put the other items back because they didnt have klarna so i thought not gonna get them all. Anyway as i was leaving i was just looking at the receipt thinking wha did she get out of my self scanner one ? I got in the car put my daughter in. And then off we went had my drink and something to eat then look in my bag. I bagged 3 items i didnt scan 😩😩 i am nowhaving a major anxiety attack thinking omg didnthe lady thought i stole???! Omg did they call the police ? Im i gonna be arrested ??? I have never stole in my life!! I called customer service & explained said can i pay over the phone. and they said take it back to a store near me. I have 3 major appointments( health related) this week so i cant make it this week. What should i do? Im freaking out. Has this ever happened to anyone and had police at there door for an honest mistake :( i feel sick to my stomach! My didnt someone stop me 😭😭😭

Good lord, it’s a none event. Call the store and tell them to collect the items if they want them back. If they don’t just move on with your life!

@ImFinePMSL i went back to the drs after i had my baby as it got worse again. Ive been put on tablets, second week of taken them and havent seen an improvement yet. I have a 4 week check up x

Hopefully the medication starts to kick in soon. Sometimes they can take a few weeks to really see a difference. Be totally honest with the doctor when you go for your check up soon.

My advice to you would be try and have some slow and relaxed days. (Easier said than done with young children). But it sounds like your nervous system is in overdrive. You need to just chill and relax. Avoid busy days out and shopping trips where you’re likely to get flustered and stressed over simple tasks.

ImPamDoove · 09/02/2026 21:22

There is no need for me to steal. Me and my husband have good jobs earn enough money

Thieves always say that. You will definitely be arrested and go to prison.

Or…nothing at all will happen. Stop being hysterical.

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 21:23

@ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy i will return. This thread has definitely make me feel calmer about the situation and its happened to others and easily fixed :)

I'm like you @Starrrz - when I was about 6yo, I went to the local shops for my mum. Butchers, newsagents and 2 diff grocery stores.

I got halfway home and realised I hadn't paid for the loaf, so ran back and paid for it.

I think you'll be fine, honestly it's a shock to behave out of character, but go back and pay for the items.

Love your honesty.

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 21:17

@RawBloomers i did 2 weeks ago? Having a newborn also makes born baby has definitely made my anxiety worse.

Baby hormones can definitely increase anxiety. And those should dissipate over the next 6 months. But you seemed to be saying you've always been this way inclined, in which case it won't just go away once your hormones have returned to normal. A newborn is a lot to deal with so it may be that it's not a good time to be trying to tackle anxiety. What did your GP say? And did you tell her/him that you've always been prone to anxiety?

midlifeattheoasis · 09/02/2026 21:26

I can’t read anymore. You’re too annoying and hysterical. Get a grip

I’d be more concerned about your anxiety if I were you

@SargeMarge i do have the money, but instead of having leave my account at once i just do it on klarna. I have money in my savings even but its intrest free and this is what i always use when i order online also. So the stuff i wasnt gonna keep i put back after i paid to one side. I had the bits infront of me and was scanning. My daughter was running off and i was running sfter then back to the till it was all just chaos

Not the issue but im pretty sure Klarna impacts your credit rating in a similar way to pay day loans. Especially if used often.

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 21:27

@ImFinePMSL thats that the dr said it can take a few weeks so im hoping ill notice a difference very soon. Yes i definitely do, stress is affecting my body so bad at the moment but i cant seem to shake it off. Hopefully this medication will help me, dont want my children seeing me like this x

JFC calm down and get a grip.

SharpFox · 09/02/2026 21:28

I 100% promise you, you are not in trouble and the police will not be coming for you! If the shop staff had realised you'd nicked something, and they were going to do anything about it, they would have stopped you as you were leaving the store. You've stolen by accident but you've actually also got away with it! Please chill out...

@mumofoneAloneandwell whats aibu?
yes because i dont want to get in troubke im asking if its happened to anyone else. Thats it.

I did it in Boots. Was trying on loads of handbags at lunchtime. Decided not to buy, headed back to work and realised I still had one of the bags over my arm.

Mortified!

I ran back sweating and went straight to a cashier and returned it, explaining what had happened. She was surprised I had bothered to bring it back(!) but otherwise fine about it.

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 21:31

@midlifeattheoasis please dont comment being rude. I was just asking something. There is no need to be hurtful x

A couple of years ago, I did a grocery shop and when I got home I realised I hadn't paid. I only discovered because when I looked at my phone, the banking app said my card had been declined, yet I still walk the streets a free woman . I wouldn't worry about it

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 21:34

@ImFinePMSL yes i have but not this bad for sure, my gp is aware. Ive tried CBT which didnt help. I spent over £600 on hypnotherapy that worked for a small time. I was always scared of trying the meds because i was called ‘fat’ my whole childhood . But ive hit a wall that i need more help x

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 21:08

@rockingroller i am because im so annoyed at myself for this happening. Just a very anxious person to which this definitely doesnt help with. :( x

Anxiety is awful! What you did in the shop is not awful. You got flustered and made an error. You are doing your best to put it right. Would you attack someone you love for making an honest mistake
in these circumstances?

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 21:35

@Blinky21 oo gosh, was you not really worried ? Luckily my food shop i do all online x

@TheHillIsMine i want to pay for them or return them. Its driving me insane i guess ive never been in this situation before x

You’re being crazy! Police don’t come after an event as clearly no one noticed you’d not paid! Relax and take them back when you can. Nothing is going to happen.

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 21:36

@rockingroller no I definitely wouldnt , i think i feel so stressed because once i realised i did the error i just got worried x

@mumofoneAloneandwell whats aibu?
yes because i dont want to get in troubke im asking if its happened to anyone else. Thats it.

A friend went out of local shop without paying, came home, realized, went back and paid. Then continued to use that shop for ages.
I think as you called them it’s ok, it’s just a scanning mistake which might happened.
By the way I think you will need something from them as a proof of return. Hope something will come and advise what it might be.

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 21:36

@Letmeloveyou your so right! I will, im just overthinking it and being so silly. X

Starrrz · 09/02/2026 21:38

@SharpFox your right, once ive taken it back all this is done. I didnt do anything on purpose so i need to chill out xx

You sound like a pleasant friendly person. How about giving yourself a big hug and saying it will be fine, then relax for the night? X

Appletree56 · 09/02/2026 21:43

I once scanned a basket full of shopping in morrisons but didnt actually then press to pay. Only as I was driving home did I think, I don't remember getting my debit card out. Got home and my banking app confirmed I had not paid. Que a very panicked drive back to morrisons. Approached customer services who knew I'd not paid and had a till print out behind the counter. So they definitely track non payment. Not sure what they would have done if I'd not gone back.
