How much do you pay for gas & electricity each month?

I cut down massively on my gas and electricity. Blankets and tons of clothes on during the day. Heating on only 1 hour in the morning and 2 hours spread over the evening. I'm now paying £150 per month. Dual fuel discount with Eon. How does this compare with everyone else?

Over £500 a month. Big house. Lots of animals so washing machine on a lot etc.
Desperately trying to get it down!

snowdaze76 · 30/01/2026 22:13

£120 per month. 2 of us work from home and the testing us is on all day. I refuse to be cold.

£98 with Octopus (gas and electricity)-here's a cheeky link if anyone fancies switching-we both get £50 credited to our accounts, and you can use your link more than once!

3 bed house. Tumble drier on 5 times a week, same for washing machine. Heating on 2 hours morning and 4 evening. Was paying 150 but had an email theyre reducing it to 120

which provider is this with? I’m thinking of changing and this sounds ok

tedibear · 30/01/2026 22:26

Sounds very high if ur not heating ur home lots. I have a 5 bed detached house living in Scotland. Heating is on a lot. Anything from 10-12 hours most days. I have a dishwasher on most days, washing machine average of 1 wash a day and tumble dryer is usually on once a day too. 2 adults & 2 kids in the house. We pay £141 every month so built up a credit in summer. Currently in a few hundred pounds credit. I fixed for a year early sept so have avoided the Oct and Jan rises.

VikaOlson · 30/01/2026 22:41

£180
Heating on all the time
Dishwasher & tumble dryer on every day etc.

Doesitgetbetterever · 30/01/2026 22:42

£250 a month for a 3 bed detached old house not even big. 1 adult 2 children. Still always chilly! Envious of peoples low energy bills.

Mcdhotchoc · 30/01/2026 22:42

£180 per month across the year. Medium 4 bed, 3 of us here. Gas heating that is on every day 2 hrs in the morning and 5 in the evening and will boost during the day

3 bed semi detached house, both work from home and this month we’ve spent £231 so far so will be £240 by the end of the month.
I have £160 month direct debit which builds up about £500 credit through summer to use over winter. I refuse to be cold so the heating is on about 10-12 hours a day.

This is what I do, overpay during summer months so have around £400 credit going into winter then just put the heating on as much as I want as I don’t want to be in a cold house. Pay £135 a month and it covers all usage.

ihavebecomecomfortablynumb · 30/01/2026 23:00

Last month was around £600, heating is on 24/7 controlled by the thermostat but we do turn that down a bit at night. House is a big, old, Georgian ex-farmhouse, high ceilings and draughty suspended floors, some rooms are warmer than others but on average around 16° so jumpers and thick socks are a must. .

£50 electric and £20 gas.
One bed flat two of us.

That wouldn't even cover the standing charges for both gas and electric.

DarkLion · 30/01/2026 23:04

3 bed house and £74 a month for both and the heating is pretty much always on throughout the day! I’m with Scottish power and was paying £170 a month but they’ve cut my direct debit down as I’m now £600 in credit. Previous house was 2 bed with British Gas and I was paying so much but it seemed so poor with drafts by the front door in comparison to my current house

I can assure you that's what we pay
50 into a pay as you go for electric
And 20:DD for gas.

I've no idea. They're on direct debits, so they change periodically, but can't remember what they are at the moment. Gas and electricity are basic necessities, so I just pay whatever it is - I refuse to start turning things off, or being cold. It's probably gone up this year, as we're both at home more often during the day.

XenoBitch · 30/01/2026 23:11

£70pm for both. Just me in a 3 bed house.

Willowkins · 30/01/2026 23:16

£110 per month for dual fuel, 2 of us in a house plus charging an electric car once a week, with Eon.

rainandshine38 · 30/01/2026 23:17

£184 for 4 bed house. There’s only two of us. We probably should downsize now.

Iwilldoitnowinaminutemam · 30/01/2026 23:33

I am also with Eon, 3 bed terrace 2 adults and a teen. Washing machine and ps5 seem to be a constant on and I wfh 3 days a week. Heating on for hour in the morning and then 5-10 every evening. Also dishwasher and tumble dryer. Paying £150 a month, every month so in credit from the summer sp currently balancing out.

RockGirl · 30/01/2026 23:46

NewYearNewMee · 30/01/2026 20:19

£150 per month for both Gas & Electric. Heating on every day between October - March all day 😂 atmosphere lighting on too! 4 bed detached. Work from home so devices always on, dishwasher every day, 2-3 showers a day, 6-7 washing loads a week.

Gas - 21p a day standing charge, 5.7p per kWh
Electric - 40.4p a day standing charge, 23p per kWh.

This is a good price, who are you with please?

Makingadecision · 30/01/2026 23:52

£280 to £300 a month. Currently 4 adults, about 3 wfh most days. Tumble drier and washing machine used a lot.

ffsnewusername · 31/01/2026 00:12

All electric 3 bed semi.

£300 this month, and I only use one heater in the living room.

bigdinkydoodah · 31/01/2026 00:54

We pay £160 per month for both, 3 bedroom semi, just the two of us. The heating is on nearly all day. I need heat to function. My theory is I’d rather be comfortable than cold, I’ll always find the money to pay the bill.
