How much do you pay for gas & electricity each month?

I cut down massively on my gas and electricity. Blankets and tons of clothes on during the day. Heating on only 1 hour in the morning and 2 hours spread over the evening. I'm now paying £150 per month. Dual fuel discount with Eon. How does this compare with everyone else?

Roughly €150 per month each. I just got the direct debit notices for both for the 2 months to mid-Jan which are €308 and €345.
when I average it over the year, it’s about €100 for electricity and €80 for gas.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 30/01/2026 20:35

£70 per month for both in winter. Nearer £50 in summer. 2 bed house. Heating on 24/7. Me and five cats.

DinoLil · 30/01/2026 20:36

Also Eon, 3 bed house. Just me and dog and a turtle who needs lamps and a heater. £60 pm for dual fuel. Currently £240 in credit.

We just pay the bill monthly when it comes in so I can’t give a direct debit figure. There are 2 of us in a 3 bed house, electricity is our only power source and we have an electric car.

Over the last year the bills have ranged between £130 and £500 per month.

3 bed house ,small ish
170 a month octopus

Run dryer whenevrr I want

North87 · 30/01/2026 20:40

We're on a pre payment metre in a 2 bed flat. Athe moment we spend around £125 per month on electricity and around £110 gas. We do have the heating on all day at the moment. I know being on a pre payment metre is more expensive, but I actually prefer it this way.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2026 20:42

£130 for electricity
I put away £100 a month for oil

NewYearNewMee · 30/01/2026 20:43

@Isthisit2025 north west! British Gas user 😊

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/01/2026 20:44

£150 every month but mean I’m in credit from summer so covers my nearly £300 jan bill

Isthisit2025 · 30/01/2026 20:44

@NewYearNewMee thank you..I’m down South so guess I’d expect to pay more! Octopus here 🐙

ReignOfError · 30/01/2026 20:44

3 bed semi, two of us, retired so home a fair bit. Heating is off overnight, on at 18 for a couple of hours morning and evening, and 16 the rest of the time. Electric cooking. No tumble drier. I pay £90 direct debit a month with Octopus. It’s a fixed rate, so expecting a jump when it ends in May.

Onemoret1me · 30/01/2026 20:52

£190 a month but we have credit built up from summer.
heating is scheduled for approx 6 hours a day but on more if we’re home, plus an electric car

EllenWest · 30/01/2026 21:00

£92 pm with OVO (inept, they really are) ‘cosy’ ie small one bedroom flat GCH electric shower.

ETA I am at work all day, but I’m have the hearing on full time until I go to bed and all day at weekends

TheFormidableMrsC · 30/01/2026 21:01

My latest bill was £188. I’ve got a three storey house but only 3 bedrooms. Terrible insulation. I’ve not skimped on heating this year having half frozen to death for the last two and I was sick of feeling cold. I’ve cut back elsewhere. I have a Nest system so it’s set to click on as soon as it drops to 16, I have it on for 18 in the evening. House is empty during the day because of work/school but I keep it set it click on. It takes so long to heat the house if I keep the heating off that it makes sense to keep it reasonably warm all the time.

TheFormidableMrsC · 30/01/2026 21:02

To add I’m with Ovo. I’ve had a massive complaint with the ombudsman that has been upheld and I going to change probably to Octopus imminently. Hoping to build some credit through the summer months.

They are awful arent they? The most inept and inefficient company I have ever had to deal with they make my head 🤯 I try not to deal with them too much as it is bad for my stress levels

BrunchBarBandit · 30/01/2026 21:07

£330 month by direct debit for 6 bed drafty Victorian detached. We’re currently £900 in credit after the summer though but Jan usage looks like it will be £500. Even so ? I think we’ll be able to refund some of our credit and reduce the DD if Feb and March aren’t as cold as Jan.

We don’t skimp on heating the house. It’s on from 5am to 11pm, but we do turn off the radiators in rooms we’re not using. If the house cools down too much it takes 4 days to warm it up again

MabelsBeats · 30/01/2026 21:09

£585pcm. Big house.

Thelnebriati · 30/01/2026 21:28

I'm on dual fuel and my DD is £70 a month, for a small two bed house. We have double glazing and loads of loft insulation, plus a combi gas boiler. I use an electric blanket on the bed, electric heat pads on the chairs, and also sit under a blanket in the evening. I leave the heating on all winter with the thermostat at 17 degrees, 18 if it snows.

lljkk · 30/01/2026 21:29

£53/month for both.
I live alone, I'm not home much, I travel a lot. Only 4 rooms to heat. No TD.

I only turn on the heating when I'm home & awake. Temp drops to 12-13 some mornings before I put heating back on, but 16-18 in my house feels much warmer than 18-20 in my office !!

Clefable · 30/01/2026 21:34

We pay variable DD so these winter months it’s quite a lot, this month was about £310 (we had some very cold weather and a lot of snow!) but probably more like £180 if you average over a year. We have an EV which is probably about £30-40 of that a month.

thereare4lights · 30/01/2026 21:35
  1. House never gets above 17°......
Growlybear83 · 30/01/2026 21:51

We pay about £400 per month, for an old draughty 5 bed Victorian house. We have the heating on all day, and the thermostat is usually set at about 23!degrees. I feel the cold and refuse to sit shivering or wearing loads of layers.

99pwithaflake · 30/01/2026 21:53

£95 a month for both (£60 electric, £35 gas) - two bed terrace with two adults living in it ☺️

ThePrecisionsifthisislove · 30/01/2026 22:03

@thereare4lights that's a lot of money for not much cosy comfort.
