Is this model too thin or about right?

V unlikely as she is modelling and showing a thigh gap which is abnormal in women

but standard in modelling sadly

why do you ask op ? What is your point we all know models are v young with bmi in the lower range ? So she is considered perfect for her current role

I’ve never had a thigh gap, even when I was a size 6-8. My friend who is a size 16 has a thigh gap. It’s more to do with the skeleton, she had broad hips and a very narrow waist proportionally. I’m like a rectangle, straight up and down.

Honestly it’s been really boring (I’ve lost a stone and a half recently) - calorie counting and exercise, weights, eating more protein. Super dull but sticking at it has worked (I’m in my 40s). I had to be in the right headspace to do it though if that makes sense? A couple of years ago I couldn’t have.

Definitely right head space is needed and I just can’t get into it anymore.

I looked like that model with zero effort when I was younger, but would get terribly criticised for it and it was very hurtful, (just the fact OP thought it was ok to open a thread and point an accusing finger at the model shows how people treat thin women). Now I’m a lot older those words wouldn’t hurt me if I looked like that again and I would love to look like that again.

I am waiting for the" She's not a real woman' posts.

God that used to infuriate me when it was quite common to say shit like that. Thankfully I haven’t come across it in years.

She looks the same shape as most of the girls I was at school with in the 70s, a bit taller and leaner but wouldn’t have stood out.

I’m quite surprised when I see groups of school children how much the average body shape has changed. I think this distorts people’s idea of what’s “normal” and “healthy”.

BooksandCats123 · 28/01/2026 14:12

Models tend to be beautiful op, it sort of goes with the territory of being a model.

Tillygan60 · 28/01/2026 14:14

Why do you even care?

Oopsylazy · 28/01/2026 14:14

Why have you chosen this model in particular OP? I think she looks lovely, certainly not too thin - my DD’s, their friends and my DIL’s are all similar sizes/shapes - such is youth!

She shouldn't be "the norm" as only a few people are female, white, blonde, 17 and 5'10", for starters, never mind that particular build.

When I was 17 I was 5'7" (as I am now!) and ten and a half stone I didn't look like her, though I still looked pretty good and muscly and fit at BMI 23. But I thought I was too big as it was the era of Kate Moss and nearly all photos of women presented to us in magazines and the media being very thin indeed. Not that it's not ok to show thinner people but it shouldn't be about only one kind of build or one look being "the norm" or only that is acceptable.

Edited

Im simply referring to her likely healthy BMI, I was replying to another poster who set that out also.

Her age, ethnicity, hair colour and height was not being discussed.

Oopsylazy · 28/01/2026 14:18

Hmm, could I get away with that dress at 45? Probably not. I just zoomed in on her legs and they’ve put her in a terrible pair of ratty tights with loads of pulls in!

I agree she’s very beautiful - but I always assume photos have been tweaked these days, they will always brush out little imperfections.

What do you mean by abnormal

Do you mean there never should be as its a sign of something being wrong, or do you mean most people dont have one?

I have one and Im very very technically overweight. By which I mean just in the category.

Im not overweight, Im using BMI to make the example. Im not skinny at all.

Gahr · 28/01/2026 14:20

She looks lovely, not too thin at all.

Its not that abnormal if you have wide hips...

Plus she's not in her underwear so how would you even know- the term thigh gap was some weird thing where people were posting pics of gaps right at the top of people's legs a while back?

She's literally just standing there. Of course there should be a gap between her lower thighs.

Shhhhitsmagic · 28/01/2026 14:22

Why do you care OP? And who are we to be the judge of her size?

But even then I would not use "the norm".

It means something that is usual, typical, or standard. Models are usually chosen because they don't look like the norm. In any age, not just now.

LyingToMyTherapist · 28/01/2026 13:30

The models themselves don't edit or photoshop the images. The models more often than not do not own the rights to the images used and are in strict contracts with the agencies or companies.

I'm a professional commercial photographer with thousands of shoots under my belt. Not once have any of the models gone on to edit the images. Even if they did, they wouldn't be able to post them.

Sorry I wasn’t very clear.

The models are the ones calling the companies out - they are showing what they look like in reality vs the edited images to show that (although still very beautiful) there is no such thing as perfect.

Some video/photograph themselves being told to put bigger bum padding in etc.

They’re just showing awareness to young girls that most people aren’t naturally slim with big boobs, bum, hips and a tiny waist with no cellulite or blemishes on their skin.
And that they’re still beautiful even without edited photos.

Bobbinog · 28/01/2026 12:30

I'd say she looks entirely normal. She has the same shape legs as me (5ft 10, bmi of 20) which is nice to see for me because I grew up thinking my legs were too long and thin until I was about 30.

I bet you look great! I look and feel my best at BMI 19 or so. Not super skinny but nicely slim. People have such a skewed idea of what's healthy.

'The norm' should be within the healthy weight range, not sure that needs spelling out to this nth degree.

Not underweight, not overweight. There will be outliers to this but the bog standard general member of the public is usually falling within the group of people that this can refer to.

Face doesn't look gaunt, limbs could have been edited (her right leg looks wierdly bent).

We come in all shapes and sizes and she doesn't look unhealthy.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/01/2026 14:27

She looks fine to me

There’s a photo of that Peltz woman married to one of the beckhams (the one that’s fallen out with his parents) and she is ridiculously underweight. She looks really abnormally thin, much thinner than that model posted

I have always had a think gap and I was once a size 18.

I would never be smaller than size 12 on my bottoms because I have big hips.
I too have a very small waist.

I definitely think it’s more to do with skeleton than weight/size.

Its completely variable. I never had a thigh gap when I was overweight but Ive always been an apple shape. Now Ive lost weight Im still an apple, I have no waist and no hips but skinny little legs so a thigh gap.

5128gap · 28/01/2026 14:36

In the flesh she would look very tall and slim because you'd be comparing her to what the majority of other women look like, and she'd be tiny framed and towering over your average 5' 5" size 12/14 woman. However she doesn't look too thin at all by model standards. Certainly nothing like the exceptionally thin ones from the 90s.

NightIbble · 28/01/2026 14:37

She looks ok just naturally skinny wearing a rather unflattering dress.

Yes definitely not rocking the ‘heroin chic’ of the early 90s (thank goodness).

Is it unflattering? I think it’s a cute dress that I would have worn year’s ago ( like a skater dress).
