Often wonder why we see people saying ‘alarmingly thin’ but never ‘alarmingly fat’. I see far more ‘alarmingly fat’ people around these days. ‘Alarmingly thin’ is unusually rare.

I am waiting for the" She's not a real woman' posts.

How does that work with the use of AI models now?

One of the main reasons as to why the use of editing bodies isn't allowed to protect the model. It's incredibly damaging to edit and alter someone's figure for the eyes of the consumer. The rights are there for the consumer and for the model in question.

editing an AI photo doesn't do this. But regardless of AI or not, they cannot be edited in a way that misleads viewers about the products effect and fit, or create an irresponsible image.

If you want to look at unrealistic advertising, look on shein and the way the bodies are edited there. They are a Chinese company.
the ASA legislations only apply to ads for the UK target audience specifically. Shein is worldwide so does not need to conform to ASA.

I know loads of companies who edit photos.
There are social media pages that try and expose them.
Often it’s the models themselves.

They also wear breast pads, butt pads and waist clinchers - perhaps this is how they get away with it.

I see women like this most days.
I would say her weight is pretty average and definitely not too thin but it’s highly unlikely that her photo has not been edited in some way.
It doesn’t mean she’s not gorgeous in real life too.

The models themselves don't edit or photoshop the images. The models more often than not do not own the rights to the images used and are in strict contracts with the agencies or companies.

I'm a professional commercial photographer with thousands of shoots under my belt. Not once have any of the models gone on to edit the images. Even if they did, they wouldn't be able to post them.

To see a normal, healthy slim person and straight away wonder or assume if she's photoshopped is purely because most people are fat, and everyone around them too. And I say the word 'normal' for her, she actually isn't normal as the vast minority carry too much weight.

she should be the 'norm.'

Nearly all clothes ads are photoshopped, it is to be assumed because they are.

I made the same comment on the nature of them wanting to show off the shape of the dress, thats the job of the photoshopper.

However she should be the norm

Of course, you are correct nearly every photo is photoshopped.

but the models bodies specifically aren't enhanced and photoshopped like many are making out on this thread. There are strict guidelines creators and advertisers have to stick by.

@TennisLady People are saying she looks fine. Don't manufacture negativity.

I didn’t say otherwise. But everyone is wanting to comment on it, size of her legs, hips etc. my comment stands.

Moveoverdarlin · 28/01/2026 13:37

She looks great.

When I was a teenager (many, many years ago ), at 5'8" I weighed under eight stone, and couldn't put on any weight, no matter how much I ate! I was incredibly skinny, my legs were even thinner than this model. Perhaps she is the same.
I didn't put on any weight until many years later after childbirth.

I was very skinny, too. For a coat to fit my body, the sleeves were too short. It was probably because I had undiagnosed coeliac disease.....

Tryonemoretime · 28/01/2026 13:38

But I think the model looks amazing!

ANOTHER thread asking if a model is ‘too thin’?!

Not too thin. Too beautiful if anything. The ad popped up when I was browsing. This is the link:

The ad showed up on a page I was viewing, and she looked so beautiful I just wondered what people's thoughts were. There is so much AI and photoshop, I wondered whether she looked naturally as beautiful as this or whether it had all been enhanced in someway.

How many models do you know IRL? Unless you work in fashion or a similar industry, it's probably very few.

Modelling is highly competitive and it's going to be a very small percentage of women who are the most beautiful, as well as being tall and slim, who become models. Then, their entire job is to stay within these confines and they will spend a lot of time and money on making sure they look perfect at all times.

For shoots, their hair and make-up will be done professionally to make them look even better than they usually do.

They have a very short shelf-life and by the time they hit 30 their career is more or less over.

So photoshop or not, you're seeing an unusually beautiful, tall and slim woman, made up to look her best, in the prime of her youth.

ObladiObladah · 28/01/2026 13:45

My dd is slender like this. She is active and eats plenty and is healthy. I think it’s normal for many women to be this shape.

However she should be the norm

She shouldn't be "the norm" as only a few people are female, white, blonde, 17 and 5'10", for starters, never mind that particular build.

When I was 17 I was 5'7" (as I am now!) and ten and a half stone I didn't look like her, though I still looked pretty good and muscly and fit at BMI 23. But I thought I was too big as it was the era of Kate Moss and nearly all photos of women presented to us in magazines and the media being very thin indeed. Not that it's not ok to show thinner people but it shouldn't be about only one kind of build or one look being "the norm" or only that is acceptable.

Evaporateandlisten · 28/01/2026 13:46

Too thin for what?

Supersimkin7 · 28/01/2026 13:46

She’s fine - prob that weight that looks better in clothes than starkers, but I’d swap.

Empress13 · 28/01/2026 13:47

Edited

I think they're referring to her being a healthy weight.

Supersimkin7 · 28/01/2026 13:48

It’s all in the skeleton, modelling. You need a shorter back and longer legs.

pimplebum · 28/01/2026 13:53

HappyAsASandboy · 28/01/2026 12:06

I think she looks a healthy weight.

V unlikely as she is modelling and showing a thigh gap which is abnormal in women

but standard in modelling sadly

why do you ask op ? What is your point we all know models are v young with bmi in the lower range ? So she is considered perfect for her current role

There is no way you can tell she has a thigh gap from that picture. Her legs are already apart and she's wearing a skirt that covers the top of her thighs.

It's not abnormal anyway. I'm a healthy weight and have a gap between my thighs.

Pistachiocake · 28/01/2026 13:58

Depends on the person. When I was young, I was bordering on skinny, with a low BM!, but I ate loads. Not many people look that way when they're older, without a lot of focus. If someone is starving themselves to look that way, it's a problem. And if, like one model I heard quoted, she won't exercise because she's scared of building muscle and not looking thin, that is concerning. If not, no.
Also, she should focus on building muscle as she gets older, my trainer says it's a problem for older women if they don't weight train.
