To me she looks healthy but thoughts?

Is this model too thin or about right?

The ad showed up on a page I was viewing, and she looked so beautiful I just wondered what people's thoughts were. There is so much AI and photoshop, I wondered whether she looked naturally as beautiful as this or whether it had all been enhanced in someway.

It’s probably safest to assume everything you see online these days is AI then you won’t be far wrong. We need to get past social media telling us what we should or shouldn’t look like.

When I was a teenager (many, many years ago ), at 5'8" I weighed under eight stone, and couldn't put on any weight, no matter how much I ate! I was incredibly skinny, my legs were even thinner than this model. Perhaps she is the same.
I didn't put on any weight until many years later after childbirth.

Same here. I'm actually 12 stone now at 50 and I can still get away with looking slim (ish!) in 14 jeans and 12 top.
That model is slender. I noticed this difference between me and my adult daughter as she grew up... My legs would look skinny because they have the look and muscles of a footballer... But daughter is slender and slim. She's always eaten like a 30 stone man and it goes nowhere.

Model looks perfectly fine.

I don't understand why you've had to ask @TheQuirkyMaker

I am tired of slim shaming. She looks perfectly fine and healthy, same as my DD.
I can imagine the reaction if I went about asking if plus size models look ok.

Exactly - this is ridiculous. My nearly 20 year old Dd looks like that. She has naturally long and lean limbs. She is just not genetically predisposed to accumulating any fat on her legs or arms.

Photoshop isn't itself banned, but there are ASA regulations implemented which mean that no photoshopping or editing are allowed to exaggerate what the clothing can achieve. Editing someone's weight or body proportions to accentuate their figure comes under this.

slight smoothing and good lighting, yes. Slimming someone or nipping in a waist isn't. It's heavily frowned upon.

Edited

How does that work with the use of AI models now?

Zov · 28/01/2026 13:01

She is on the slender/very slim side, but looks fine. Nothing wrong with being slightly built/very slim.

I wouldn't mind looking like that! 😬

I don't know if it's photoshopped or not.

Gowlett · 28/01/2026 13:02

soupyspoon · 28/01/2026 12:08

Why are you asking?

Its been photoshopped as the hips dont seem proportionate with the rest of her, so they've thinned down her arms and legs for some reason by the looks of it but kept the curve of hips to show off the dress shape.

Yes, I think this too, re. Photoshop.
She’s not too thin, in my opinion…

AnnasFangs · 28/01/2026 13:02

Her legs have definitely been photoshopped, which is a shame. She's lovely and there's no need to mess about with her body.

Lucky you! I wish I’d been more on the ball with my weight as I got older but alas life’s stresses got in the way. I would love to look like this again (need to lose at least 10kg though).

Honestly it’s been really boring (I’ve lost a stone and a half recently) - calorie counting and exercise, weights, eating more protein. Super dull but sticking at it has worked (I’m in my 40s). I had to be in the right headspace to do it though if that makes sense? A couple of years ago I couldn’t have.

Beakthrough · 28/01/2026 13:04

She looks perfectly normal and very healthy to me. I'm very active and most of my spare time is spent with active people (because we share the same interests). She looks like most of the people I know, even the middle aged ones are built much like that.

MouseCheese87 · 28/01/2026 13:05

Thin but not alarmingly so and nothing out the ordinary for a fashion model.

usedtobeaylis · 28/01/2026 13:05

The image is definitely altered especially on her arms but she looks pretty normal.

BrokenWingsCantFly · 28/01/2026 13:07

She looks perfectly healthy.

I have always had this exact body shape up until the age of 36, now my legs are slightly bigger and I doubt she is hiding the belly and bum I have now. It was always just my natural body weight with normal eating and walking as my only excersize. Was the lower end of avarage in terms of BMI. Slim doesn't mean unhealthy or abnormal. Everyone is different and that is OK

NewsOfMidLevelPortent · 28/01/2026 13:07

She doesn't look unhealthily thin to me, but of course there will have been some tweaking that sets her above 'real life'—if nothing else, she's had the benefit of professional hair, makeup, and posing before the photo, and then they've corrected the colours, contrast, and so on after the fact.

Life is better when we spend less time comparing ourselves to the above-average-looking people we see in photos and videos and analysing how realistic they are. Similarly, I have an inner vision of myself that's much prettier than the real thing, and I'm happy to live with that in my head rather than looking at a mirror too often or too long and reminding myself of my physical flaws.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 28/01/2026 13:08

she looks perfectly fine.

however: I think many would be surprised to see how slim she (and many other frequently photographed) women actually are - if you were to see them IRL. The camera does tend to add a few pounds…

And even a (medically speaking) underweight person can be made to look perfectly fine and healthy (on camera).

I am absolutely not saying that this is the case here. I am simply saying that it’s insanely difficult to tell based on this kind of photograph…

This, that's why I don't get people saying don't talk about it. There's a difference between the societal beliefs about what women should look like, and an open discussion about manipulated images. There isn't an ad out there with women where the images aren't manipulated or 'touched up'. Almost every social post is filtered.

This is a great point. To be sure, the camera has always added 30 pounds to me!😀

To everyone saying her waist or breasts have been edited, there are laws against this under the ASA regulations. You are not allowed to tamper with the bodies of models to enhance what the product being model can be achieved. Blemishes are fine, but editing someone's body to make it more appealing is illegal.

are people really so shocked and surprised that she is a slim person? Do you never come across slim
people? Having a nice or slim figure doesn't automatically been she's been edited. Slim and tall people with a small waist do exist you know!

I know loads of companies who edit photos.
There are social media pages that try and expose them.
Often it’s the models themselves.

They also wear breast pads, butt pads and waist clinchers - perhaps this is how they get away with it.

I see women like this most days.
I would say her weight is pretty average and definitely not too thin but it’s highly unlikely that her photo has not been edited in some way.
It doesn’t mean she’s not gorgeous in real life too.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 28/01/2026 13:14

Fine for herself I think and that sort of build and height.

I made myself ill trying to have slender legs like that in the 1990s, and fortunately realised that when I was underweight and still had muscly legs that it wasn't going to happen. Don't try and be someone else's shape.

Love how everyone jumps to the conclusion that every single model photo has been ‘photoshopped’ lol. I used to model. These are e-commerce shots, they’re very basic images that show off the garment and whilst there will be some editing (usually colour grading and photoshopping out any dirty patches in the background), they have absolutely no reason to photoshop the model’s hips. The way she is standing and her pose is the reason for her hips ‘looking out of proportion’. She is holding weight on only one leg and is leaning against the background.
The intention of the image is to sell the garment to the customer, not hack the model’s body to death! Yes they may clip the dress at the back if it’s too large and not a great fit for the model but they have no reason to photoshop the model’s hips and legs!

TennisLady · 28/01/2026 13:17

I’m amazed at this thread. How is this ok? If someone started a thread asking if a model was “too fat” it wouldn’t have endless comments like this pulling them apart.

fatphalange · 28/01/2026 13:19

ANOTHER thread asking if a model is ‘too thin’?!

DeftGoldHedgehog · 28/01/2026 13:20

@TennisLady People are saying she looks fine. Don't manufacture negativity.

Cherasy · 28/01/2026 13:20

Too thin for what? She looks very nice and healthy

Often wonder why we see people saying ‘alarmingly thin’ but never ‘alarmingly fat’. I see far more ‘alarmingly fat’ people around these days. ‘Alarmingly thin’ is unusually rare.

sunshinestar1986 · 28/01/2026 13:23

She looks a little thin but I'm sure that's because most people are slightly overweight these days.
