How many cars have you had?

I was just thinking about my cars (past and present) and thought I’d ask.

First car was a purple Fiesta (diesel) which was a hand me down first from my dad who gave it to my brother, who gave it to me. I traded it in (just as it hit 120k on the clock) and got £500 px for my nearly new Peugeot.

I had 2 more Peugeot 208s after that (loved them both) before trading in for an old style rounded Juke and then later (after 21 years of driving), finally being able to afford a new one (another Juke).

Starting to think I’ll need a new car again so I’m leaning back toward a Peugeot.

If you’re a driver, how many cars have you had?

@2025mustbebetter how was the transition from scooby Impreza to a VW Up ?

Haha

We actually bought the up when we had the Porsche as it was getting too many miles on it so that was a cheap new car option for DH to commute down the m3. DH then later traded up to the polo gti when we sold the Porsche.

Having been a classic mini fan all my life I quite liked the up as there were many similarities but without the leaks. Obviously nothing like an Impreza though!

MarkSkiddie · 28/01/2026 22:20

@2025mustbebetter no ABSOUTLEY NOTHING like the scooby, I’m am in awe of you for taking it all with such good grace ❤️

ETA and props to DH for taking the UP on a Motorway

I had my first car for 350,000+ kms, 15 years. I had that from new.

Second car was second hand. Had for about a year when someone ploughed into me at a red light and wrote it off. I was 10 cars back at a red light, got hit from behind. They didn't brake and took out the petrol tank, just filled that morning of course, and buckled the chassis.

Third car was also second hand. Had it 2-3 years but it kept needing repairs.

So traded on a fourth car, which had very low km (3,000km) and was one year old. Car had 200,000+ km and i had it for 12 years. Traded in as I no longer needed a towing vehicle.

Now on 5th car, which was brand new and planning to keep for another 15 years. Very low kms travelled these days, so it should last well.0

I have my 4th car in 25 years (all second hand)

unsync · 29/01/2026 00:15

Mini, mini, spitty, Peugeot, mini, Toyota, Nissan, skoda, Ford. Shared cars volvos, disco, Honda and others lost in time now.

The minis (old and new) and spitty were the most fun. Learnt in a Maxi which as everyone knows means you can drive anything!

LiveToTell · 29/01/2026 00:17

Er..just the one! My Land Rover FL2.

I passed my test in early 2020 and have had the same car since then (bought in 2019).

zebrapig · 29/01/2026 00:23

3 cars in 18 years. Had my current Ford Focus just over 11 years. Will probably need replacing in a couple of years, I’ll be sad to see it go. Before that was a Vauxhall Corsa, only had it about 18 months before it gave up the ghost on the motorway twice and had to go. First car was a Renault Clio.

justasking111 · 29/01/2026 00:25

Four in 45 years.

Peugeot 205 my SIL passed it on.
Peugeot 205 ex demo that my son then had
Rav 4 3 door 4 wheel drive. That was fun to drive.
Mini cooper cabriolet had 14 yrs now.

I'm waiting for my second hip surgery so not driving. Hope I'll be able to drive a mini again and don't have to be all practical again.

MrMainwaring · 29/01/2026 00:34

I am currently driving the fifth car I have owned since passing my test 40 years ago. I tend to keep them until they become uneconomical to repair.

Ponderingwindow · 29/01/2026 00:42

I’ve been driving for 35 years and I’m on my 6th car. The first 2 were cheap crappy things that were barely legal and didn’t last long. The 2nd two were better quality but still decidedly older vehicles. The 4th didn’t actually wear out, but we moved to a new climate and it couldn’t make it up the steep icy hills. The 5th I bought new and drove forever. I’m only a tiny bit into the 6th cars expected lifespan.

HappyHunting101 · 29/01/2026 01:16

I've had 4 of my own and 1 I shared with DH for a couple of years when we only needed 1.

Ford fiesta
Ford focus (shared)
Nissan Micra
Nissan Note

And now I have a Hyundai i10 which I absolutely love. I prefer smaller cars.

NerrSnerr · 29/01/2026 02:42

I learned to drive when I was 30- so 13 years ago.

I stared with a blue Fiesta, then moved to a red Hyundai I10, then a silver focus and I now have a purple Peugeot 106. So just 4.

WalkingOnMarshmallows77 · 29/01/2026 03:04

HappiestSleeping · 29/01/2026 03:32

Morris Marina
Renault 12
Ford Cortina

Volvo 345
Vauxhall Cavalier
Toyota MR2
Mazda2
Citroen Berlingo
BMW 530
Mercedes C220

VW Transporter
Toyota Rav4
Renault Kangoo van (company vehicle)

I think that's all of them.

Countless motorbikes.

MarchInHappiness · 29/01/2026 04:55

I have been driving for 35 years, my first car was a mini cooper. Also owned a bmw Volvo, Ford Falcon, Honda Civic (worst car I have ever owned), Toyota Carib, Ford Focus, then bought another mini, now I have Mazda X3. I think I owned a couple of cheap Toyotas in the 90s as well.

We live rural so do a lot of driving, I have only every upgraded once there are too many kms on the clock.n

RampantIvy · 29/01/2026 06:37
