How many cars have you had?

I was just thinking about my cars (past and present) and thought I’d ask.

First car was a purple Fiesta (diesel) which was a hand me down first from my dad who gave it to my brother, who gave it to me. I traded it in (just as it hit 120k on the clock) and got £500 px for my nearly new Peugeot.

I had 2 more Peugeot 208s after that (loved them both) before trading in for an old style rounded Juke and then later (after 21 years of driving), finally being able to afford a new one (another Juke).

Starting to think I’ll need a new car again so I’m leaning back toward a Peugeot.

If you’re a driver, how many cars have you had?

I'm on cars 7 & 8 currently, which I've owned for 13 and 9 years respectively. I've been driving 27 years so I guess that's pretty low.

mondaytosunday · 28/01/2026 10:26

Hmmm, I’m 63 got my license at 24.
First car: limited edition Fiat Panda bought new with 0% finance, royal blue
Second: Honda Civic in the US can’t remember how I bought it, red
Third: second hand something or other - used to lend it to my Dad and he was very hard on it so it was sold for scrap, dark green
Fourth: VW ex demo Sharan bought when had four kids between me and DH, grey
Fifth: Peugeot 5008 also ex demo, black
Sixth: Peugeot 3008 ex demo, red
Seventh (current): Peugeot 3008 bought new but a couple weeks before first lock down so got 20% knocked off. Burnt orange.

I am 45 and got my license the day I turned 16 (not in the UK). I’m on my 7th car. All secondhand except one in my 20s - I had a brand new Ford Mustang (every asshole used to ask if it was my boyfriend’s car 🙄). It was a great car. I am now in my Volvo estate era and will never drive anything that isn’t an ageing Volvo again so long as I live. 😂

I've been driving for 30 years and am on my third car. Squeezing another year out of my beloved fiesta.

Alpacajigsaw · 28/01/2026 21:10

Passed my test in 1993 and I think I’ve had 9 cars

WhatIsTheCharge · 28/01/2026 21:18

I bought my 1st car when I was 18.
Then shared one with exH.
Then bought a second car we couldn’t really afford, so that got sold pretty quickly.
The initial shared car died a death, so we got a newer version of the same car.
Then another DC entered the mix so we needed a bigger one - traded the shared car in and got a big, family car.
Then he was gifted a car when an elderly relative decided to stop driving.
I kept the big car when we split.
Sold that, got a similar but newer one.
Then sold that recently and went back to an average sized family car which I plan on running into the ground.

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 28/01/2026 21:20

Seven. My first car was a Mk1 Renault Clio which was a Cat D insurance write-off, but the seller never disclosed this information. Another issue was a design flaw where he electrics went as a result of the ECM crapping out from the insulation chaffing through to the bare wire, so one day the central locking malfunctioned (wouldn't lock) and the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. While a simple fix, I'd have needed to reinsulate the wiring loom several times throughout the year. So I got rid of that car and replaced it with my DH's Volvo S40. I miss that car.

BCBird · 28/01/2026 21:23

Ive been driving 31 years and I'm on my fourth. I keep my cars a long time. Red mini metro. Blue Fiesta - 18 months old' felt like new; Nissan Micra- had from new. Had 15 years. Currently driving a white Fiesta- 10 years old- have spent so much kn this lately. Probably should think about s new kne. Considering a SEAT Arona or a Citroën C3. Automatic car for me nxt time.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 28/01/2026 21:27

Three in 13 years.

The Ford KA was so cheap it was KO'd by a bad pothole after 10m.

The Citroen C3 lasted a respectable five years for its £1300 price, and chuffed me home from my wedding before gently dying on my drive and gifting me a lump sum for my honeymoon.

The "reliable" Toyota Yaris has been pissing me off for the last seven years, but I don't drive a lot.

Honourable mention to the Mazda 2 I drove 2.5k around NZ on holiday.

MarkSkiddie · 28/01/2026 21:39

@2025mustbebetter how was the transition from scooby Impreza to a VW Up ?
