A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Starmer should be forced to resign over this, but he won't. I suspect Labour MPs will use it as an opportunity to get rid of McSweeney, leaving Starmer in post and more vulnerable to the demands of his MPs.

BUT FARAGE! BUT MONE! BUT BORIS. 🙄

Like there's even a slight comparison to anything we've seen previously.

Appointing an American Ambassador - a man nicknamed the Prince of Darkness - with not much more than a nodding glance to vetting procedures only to find this was the same guy who had been funnelling government information to his international trafficking peadophile financier bff who happened to be giving his partner a hefty monthly sum isn't going to be a footnote.

EmeraldRoulette · 03/02/2026 19:22

@TheNuthatch how's your recovery going?

i'm quite concerned that the left might get even more bonkers as a strange reaction.

I'm ok, thank you for asking. Still off work and stuck at home, but I'm improving. I'm not very good at sitting still. 😂
I'm looking forward to taking a deep breath without pain!

I think you're right about the left getting more bonkers, its already evident in the way some are trying to deflect.

Glad to hear that you are getting better @TheNuthatch Although it doesn't sound like you are following doctors orders 😂

I think I might brave PMQs tomorrow. Every now and then the braying and heckling are worth it.

Yep.
The same man who told the FT to F-off as he got off the plane in Washington because they asked him about Epstein.

I was just reading this posted on the Mandelson thread which is interesting as to who knew what, and when.

Epstein Files: Document EFTA00144082 The Email That Will Haunt Starmer’s Premiership - Heartlands

Is there a point where proximity to power becomes an indictment of character? The Epstein Files reveal the implications for Starmer's premiership.

I know, dh keeps bollocking me but I'm so bored.

Yes, get your🍿 for PMQs. It won't just be the tories baying for blood, it will be all opposition MPs, and probably many Labour ones too.

Its also opposition day tomorrow so Kemi could cause some trouble for Starmer.

Nothing worse than a bored wife, @TheNuthatch (the devil makes work, etc, etc).😙 I hope you'll be better soon.

There's no doubt PMQs has picked up since Kemi found her debating feet, poking fun and jibes at Starmer; increasingly making him look like either a freshly-landed cod or the tight-lipped bully he fundamentally is. He's long past being able to disguise the absolute disdain he has for her.

CruCru · 03/02/2026 20:12

The last time there were a load of questions about Mandelson at PMQ the Labour MPs sat behind Starmer in silence. Which he hates and finds spooky.

Flowers For recovery

EmeraldRoulette · 03/02/2026 20:14

@TheNuthatch ouch, I hope that pain free deep breath comes soon

Kemi could completely wrong foot him and use tomorrow to ask other crucial questions. I don't know if that's allowed though.

Also, I was wondering if anyone ever walks out of the chamber in disgust, there might be some protocol that doesn't allow that either. I should know more about this really. But I tend to see parliament as theatre. Which is very sad. I did like that Jeremy Corbyn asked questions from constituents - credit where it's due and all that.

Thank you. I hope your dh is also on the mend. Glad his (and your) ordeal is over. Last week was a tough one for you and I. 💐

Couldn't agree more with your second para. I hope she skewers him, and I hope his own MPs are equally disgusted with his behaviour. As a pp said, their silent disdain hurts him.

Indeed! Complaints about cake feel pretty quaint compared to sex trafficking and financial regulation espionage.

The beautiful thing about the Mandy debacle, is that the back benches never got him - generationally and ideologically (‘I am intensely relaxed about people getting rich’ etc).

This is simply another nail in Starmer’s coffin.

justasking111 · 03/02/2026 21:23

I thought Rupert Lowe spoke eloquently about Mandy.

CaveMum · 03/02/2026 22:06

I’ve just been back through the transcripts of TRIP when they discussed Mandy’s resignation as US Ambassador, as I remembered AC saying a few things about him.

He said they had once been very close but that they drifted apart as Mandy’s partner blamed AC for him being sacked.

He also said “I think it is this sense of [him] really being impressed by, drawn to, attracted by people who are inordinately successful in financial and cultural terms, if you like.”

Finally, and this just goes to show Mandy knew what was coming, AC said “I had an exchange with him yesterday and just how's it going kind of thing, and how does it feel? I said to him, is this the biggest story in the States as it is in the UK? He said, no, because Trump's at the center of everything and so forth.

But I think he must have known that this was going to end up badly. He did say the same thing as he said to Harry Cole, that there is going to be worse to come. But he said that the mistake that he made was to rely on to believe Gillain and Epstein's lawyers, that is it were, had been hard done by.”

I've seen that Ofcom is investigating X, and I've noticed a push against it from France and Spain as well.
This frightens me, I'd honestly be clueless about such a lot without it.

Interesting Gordon Brown is in the headlines. Not looking good for Labour today on that either. Goodo keep going for each other.

I loathe GB he pulled the strings in the background. Especially in Wales during Drakefords tenure. His paws have been all over the decisions made for years.

They hate it because they can't twist the narrative.

Still, at least it clears up the mystery of why Gordon Brown sold the UK’s gold reserves at a rock bottom price. Clue: Mandelson (Epstein) told him to.

I might be being slow, but how would that have benefitted Epstein?

(The scandal is bad enough without adding extra!)

Fascinating overview of Mandelson and Epstein emails at the time of Gordon Brown in the Telegraph. Sleazy old Labour.
