Names that are common* in your DCs friendship groups

*Common as in popular!

12 yr old DC has an inordinate number of female friends called Isabelle/Isabella/Isabel/Isobel and other variants of the same.
I would say at least 10.
The male equivalent is Hugo.
There are 5 I can think of without trying too hard.
We are based in the SE home counties.

What are the most popular names in your DC/s friendship groups?

Isaac. Loads of them here. Also plenty of Jack, and quite a few Finlay, Ted, Leo and Jacob.

Girls - Grace! There are three in one class. Also Evie and Lily are big.

Apparently Oliver / Olivia were the no.1 names when my DC were born - I only know of one or two! I think it must be regional.

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 24/01/2026 19:37

Oh and my DC have only met one boy called Hugo between them

Squeakydogtoy · 24/01/2026 19:43

Boys- Most common in DC school year was Dylan. Their were 3 in his class, and maybe another 5 that I can think of.

Girl - Mia/Mya....again, probably around 7!

Second place for the girls was Lily/Lilly, with around 4 that I can remember

My son is in Year 2 and I’ve always been surprised that there’s only one duplicate name (Maria) in his year. I don’t know if it’s because it’s quite an international intake so there are lots of different European names too.

Comethefuckonbridget1 · 24/01/2026 19:45

dc10 - in their year there are two Teddys, 2 Olivias

dc6 - In there year there are 2 Finns, 2 Avas and 4 (yes 4!) Theo/theodores

Mosaic80 · 24/01/2026 19:45

13 yo DS has a lot of Charlies in his year. 5 in his immediate friend group! DD age 5 has common names Arthur, Ava and Ruby. She also had 4 Arlos in baby group out of 10 kids 😳. Reuben also pretty popular.

Loads of names I’ve only heard one of that you’d think might be popular though. Olivia, Noah, Roman, Ella, Daisy, Finn, Otis, Oscar, Lawrence, I only know one each of. And other supposedly common names like Oliver, I know zero. I think it’s part luck on whether there happen to be similar names in your area.

NorrisToenail · 24/01/2026 19:46

Luke/Lucas/Luca

Statsquestion2 · 24/01/2026 19:46

Off the top of my head the multiples I know of are Dylan and lily.

TheBlueKoala · 24/01/2026 19:47

DS12 and 16: Many Theo, Leo, Ryan, Axel..

BitSilly · 24/01/2026 19:49

@Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself Hah! You've just reminded me I'd forgotten there's an Isabella-Grace 😁

I think Theos and Olivias come as close seconds.

Yes, I do agree it's likely regional.

Y11. Emily and Evie

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 24/01/2026 19:50

My DS is 16. Most popular names in his year group at school are Joshua and Daniel (boys school). Amongst his friends though, are a Terry and a Norman, very old school!

Rituelec · 24/01/2026 19:54

DC 3 is 13 and there are multiple (I mean most the year!) Isabella/Isobel/Ava/Isla

That is the most popular name by far but there are also multiple:

Molly
Alice
Tilly

Boys name would be Oliver by a long mile followed by Finley, Harvey and Connor.

DC4 is 9. Most popular girls name is probably Isla followed by Elsie and Harriet.

Boys name: Arlo, Theo and George.

East Anglia.

TheLette · 24/01/2026 19:57

We know lots of girls with names like Maya (basically this name plus extra letters added). Don't think there are any kids with duplicate names in my kids' classes but we live in a very diverse area so there's all kinds of names going on, from lots of different cultures.

Aislyn · 24/01/2026 19:57

The 'trying hard to be different' names, while ironically everyone else is doing the same and the name becomes common: Wolfie (actual name, not a shortening of a real name like Wolfgang), Hunter, Fox, Phoenix, Nye, random colours etc.

christmassytimeagain · 24/01/2026 20:04

Year 11. Lily Lila Lexi Lola Lucy boys Zak Zack Zac x 1000

My eldest only had “j” friends. Jake Jacob Josh Jamie James and anyone without one of those names are called Sam or Max

PutTheScrewInTheTuna · 24/01/2026 20:06

dc2 (age 3-4):
Noah, Charlie, Oscar, Milo, Ezra, Jasper, Arthur,
Evie, Ava, Lilly, Isla, Freya, Amelia, Sophia

thisisajoke22 · 24/01/2026 20:09

So. Many. Judes.

HeadyLamarr · 24/01/2026 20:09

24yo - 5 Thomases, 4 Olivers, 4 Matt/Matthew, 3 Sophias 3 Finns

20yo - 6 Ellas, 4 Maddies, 5 Joes, 4 Izzy/Issy, 4 Matt/Mattie (both sexes)

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 24/01/2026 20:10

Charlotte and Ella.
And so many Josh’s that the whole class agreed a set of extra descriptors - Tall Josh, New Josh, Handsome Josh, Rugby Josh (and that’s not all of them!)

NotableI · 24/01/2026 20:11

My DS is only two so doesn’t have a school group yet but we do know three Fred/ Freddies his age!

SecretYoda · 24/01/2026 20:13

Evie and Amelia are popular. Otis is pretty popular too. Home Counties.

rosemarycait96 · 24/01/2026 20:14

It must be area specific.

My DS aged 3 does gymnastics, and one term last year had Maya, Mila, Mabel, Martha, Milly and Miley, in a group of 15 children! I remember finding the vast number of 'M' names amusing.

Other than that, it's Isla/Ailla, Eva, Ava, Lily, Freya, we see that a lot. And for boys there's a lot of Hudson, Huxton, Jaxon, Freddie, Frankie or Hugo.

Most of DS's besties have parents from other countries, so no repeat names to be found there.

ThatWasMyLastFatFreeFrush · 24/01/2026 20:16

Child is 7 and her friendship group is mostly Nigerian names, but there's a lot of Esme, Noah, Harvey and Isabel in her year.

savoycabbage · 24/01/2026 20:16

I went in to a classroom last week of 4-5 year olds and five children were called Ace.
