*Common as in popular!

12 yr old DC has an inordinate number of female friends called Isabelle/Isabella/Isabel/Isobel and other variants of the same.
I would say at least 10.
The male equivalent is Hugo.
There are 5 I can think of without trying too hard.
We are based in the SE home counties.

What are the most popular names in your DC/s friendship groups?

Lots of Fin/n/ley/lays around.
Millie, Molly (no Mandy!), Mia, Maya, Amarya, Amaya, - which all sound similar to my ears.
Oscars, Ollies and James

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 24/01/2026 22:39

My grand daughter is 2 and there's a few names that seem popular like Ophelia, Teddy, Margot, Connie, Elodie, Arlo and Stanley.

Theo. Mia. Olivia. Dylan.

Theonlywayicanloveyou · 24/01/2026 22:48

Oh yes Finley too.

spiderlight · 24/01/2026 22:48

Most of my 18-year-old's friends seem to be called Dylan. He had three Dylans in his form at school and has picked up another one since leaving school. There were also three Callums.

Pyjamatimenow · 24/01/2026 22:54

Dd is 12, lots of M names like Millie are popular

Kickinthenostalgia · 24/01/2026 23:00

DS is 18 now but when he was in high school and primary school boys called Lucas/luca had the most and girls tbh was fairly mixed the only 2 i know had 2 was Caitlyn and Phoebe.

dd13 however is a whole other story.
she had 4 friends alone called Darcy, 3 called Lola (all of whom she’s still friends with) now at high school she’s got another 3 emilie/emilys and 2 Zoeys 😂 it gets confusing everytime she tells me a story we have to use surnames. Boys I think in her year were fairly mixed, 2 Oscar’s but then one left so it’s just the one. In high school I know there’s a few Theo’s. 2 Byron’s, a few Riley’s,

RuthW · 24/01/2026 23:10

Dd is 29 now. When she was 7 she had 7 friends called Georgia and asked me why she wasn’t called Georgia

cadburyegg · 24/01/2026 23:17

Agree on the Isobel’s and all variations
Amelia
Charlie
Zach

Y6 and Y3

ReturnOfTheToad · 24/01/2026 23:19

I had a v tricky class who must be 16 year olds now: Ellie, Elly, Ellie-mai, Ellie-may, lilly, lily-mae, lily-may.

FraterculaArctica · 25/01/2026 00:19

Multiple Oscars and Scarletts in my DCs primary classes. In the school as a whole there also seem to be loads of George, Fred, and Leo for boys; the girls are all called Willow, Olive or Ottilie.

FraterculaArctica · 25/01/2026 00:20

Oh, also loads of Florence and Margot.

britneyisfreebutnotokay · 25/01/2026 00:21

Lucy, Florence, Mila, Leo, Charles, Sophie. Two of each in a year group of 60.

ItsameLuigi · 25/01/2026 00:37

I was born in 97, common names were: Katie, demi, Charlotte, Maisie, Emily
Usually middle name was Leigh or Elizabeth or rose. Boys would be Jack, Connor, Mark, Robert

My kids are yr 2&3 and Finn, Isla, Livvy/Olivia, Teddy, Esme are all popular names

LemaxObsessive · 25/01/2026 00:39

DD11’s Y6 class has multiples of Harry, George, Flo, Monty, Milo and even has two Cosmo and a Percy!

VivienneDelacroix · 25/01/2026 00:54

My children are all secondary school age. The consistently popular names across all three of their year groups are:
Ava
Lily
Grace
Molly

Oscar
Freddie
Ethan
Harry
Finn

We're on the south coast.

honeylulu · 25/01/2026 01:07

Eldest child is now 20 - popular names among his contemporaries were/are:
Oscar, Oliver, Luca/Lucas, James, Josh(ua), Harry, Harrison, Jordan, Jack, Finn.
Tallulah, Isabel(la), Grace/Gracie, Charlotte, Emily, Lily/Lilly/Lilya, Eve/Evie/Eva, Mia/Maya, Sophie/Sophia, Amelia/Emilia/Amelie/Milly.

Younger child is 11 and there's surprisingly little difference despite the age gap. So most of the above and ...
For boys more Jayden and more of the traditional names like Thomas, George, Joseph/Joe.
For girls less of the traditional names and lots of vowel names - Ava, Ada, Aria, Isla, Ivy, Ella, Ellie and the L names are joined by Lila/Lyla and Lyra. Lots of Bella and longer variations containing Belle/Bella.

grangehilltuba · 25/01/2026 01:18

I’m a primary teacher and, weirdly, I’ve never taught a class with duplicate names in. First school was very diverse so less likely to have duplicates as children were named from lots of different traditions, but the others were not particularly diverse and still never had duplicates.

No duplicates in my son’s class either, but across the school there are several of: Hunter, Elsie, Eliza, Teddy, Arthur, Albie, Aria, Sophia/Sofia, Archie, William, Isla

CypressGrove · 25/01/2026 01:31

These names are all so white - are people finding people from different cultures are adopting these names are are PPs just from particularly non diverse areas. DS school has a huge range of names from so many different places that we've not really come across many double ups apart from Charlotte which seems particulaly popular with both Anglo and chinese kids.

catinateacup · 25/01/2026 01:58

SE - DD is in Y8. Popular duplicate names: Evie, Lily, Lilly, Eve, Molly, Beatrice, Sophie, Millie, Maya, Grace.

At DD’s primary school the most popular were Isabella/Isabelle/Bella in all variations, Phoebe, Evie, Mia and Sophie.

To pp above - these girls are not all white by any means - in fact many of the Graces, Lilys, Sophies, Mayas and Mias in particular are Indian or Chinese.

Puffalicious · 25/01/2026 02:20

Lewiss coming out of our ears, plenty Calum/ Callums, Ruiridhs and the ever present Maxs and Sams. Girls are Eves/ Emilys/ Mias- DS21 and DS19.

DS14 loads of Finlays/ Ethans/ Charlies/ Jamies/ Jessicas/ Emilys
