*Common as in popular!

12 yr old DC has an inordinate number of female friends called Isabelle/Isabella/Isabel/Isobel and other variants of the same.
I would say at least 10.
The male equivalent is Hugo.
There are 5 I can think of without trying too hard.
We are based in the SE home counties.

What are the most popular names in your DC/s friendship groups?

Joe/Joseph - ds17 has a main friendship group of 7 and 4 of them are called Joe. One of the ones who isn’t called Joe has a brother called Joe!

I'm pretty sure my DDs school put all the Islas and Isabelle variants in one group on a school trip as a prank on a teacher (12 of them, from different year groups).
I know a lot of Primary age boys called Edward.

DD is the only Isla in her year group of 200. Shes named after her great grandmother.

The 'trying hard to be different' names, while ironically everyone else is doing the same and the name becomes common: Wolfie (actual name, not a shortening of a real name like Wolfgang), Hunter, Fox, Phoenix, Nye, random colours etc.

Are you in North London 😆

DC are older now, but for younger children I'm here to tell you that Otillie is the new Isla.

AcidicTrifle · 24/01/2026 20:32

My son is a 2021 baby. His class has multiple Henrys, Ivys, Freddies and Francescas. Only one Lucas but there is also a Luca. Outside his nursery but still roughly the same age as him, we know multiple Stanleys, Arthurs, Alberts, Patricks, Judes, Hugos and Olivias.

When I was a teacher, I had a class that would have been born in 2009-2010. That was an absolute spate of Millie/Amelia/Amelies (more than 10% of the class!). The younger classes had an absolute ton of Teddy/Theo/Theodores and Eva/Eve/Evie/Avas.

Yuja · 24/01/2026 20:33
