Why are there Mumsnet 'Rebels'?

Why are there so many 'rebels' on MumsNet who claim that - despite being British - they do not like or admire the Royal Family. Are they trying to be edgy or something when the RF are a well-established British institution that exist precisely because the British support and love them?

Now I'm getting older I'm reluctantly admitting to myself I think that I prefer our current system to the risk of Trump. If it was up to me I'd give out head of state every year in a free lottery. Anyone can apply and the conditions are that you get a nice house, food and a fancy wardrobe free in return for signing acts of parliament, cutting ribbons when you fancy and keeping your mouth shut on all things political. There are no handover ceremonies. You just go home to your old life after a year.

The concept of royalty is morally repugnant to anyone either a modicum of intelligence and the ability to think critically.

The monarchy are a bunch of parasites. The sooner they get abolished the better.

And don't get me started on the queen, she was the worst of the lot.

Is this thread a joke thread? You seriously think that not liking the royal family is being rebellious? No, I am not comforted by over privileged psychopaths making speeches from the comfort of their castle. Frankly, I am more terrified by it. People with money and power and no moral compass that we can't remove from power if they abuse it - no that is not comforting.

The Post Office's decision to introduce self-adhesive stamps is clearly a reflection of the rebellious nature of the Great British Public as one no longer has to lick the back of the Monarch's head.

My favourite comment! I am and always will be a republican. I've met Charles a few times. He's a perfectly pleasant man, but no better than the rest of us.

I have a shrine to the late Queen in each room of my house. I also have one in the car and carry a portable one in my bag - you never know when you’ll need to draw on her leadership.

🤣🤣🤣

I meant in the sense a lot of Mumsnetters come across as very well-educated and clever, but distinctly middle-class as opposed to upper-class or working-class. And in a typical middle-class fashion seem to be rebelling against the monarchy as it's part of the British establishment. The way they criticise the monarchy or make a point of expressing their indifference to it is just very specific and comes across as sneering rather than resentful or angry (like a working-class hater of elitism and privilege might be).

Edited

Or maybe they are just legitimately indifferent? For me, they exist. They probably bring in a bit of tourism, and maybe grease the wheels of industry, but they don't bother me, and I don't bother them.

I was only prompted to comment as the whole idea of someone gaining comfort and leadership from them, or any other public figure bemused me.

Then again, I don't understand the concept of "influencers" either. Who do they influence, and why? It's all Greek to me.

This post has come at an opportune moment for me. I’m gathering together a few peeps to overthrow/blow up the monarchy. It’ll take a few months to plot, I’m thinking we will be ready early November time.
Any interested parties: meet ups are weekly at The Duck and Drake Inn by The Strand.

I’ll see you there next week. I know a guy who might help. 😉
