Anyone else not “get” Yom Daley’s knitting?

Now, I can barely knit a stitch so he is way better than me, much more talented and creative.

But I’ve just seen a reel where he showed jumpers he knitted for his sons’ school photo - they looked baggy and saggy and not appealing at all to me.

Sorry Tom, but am I the philistine here? Entirely possible, as my fashion sense is worse than my knitting!

Yes, and the BBC made a whole podcast to tell us all hoe great this is for men, buying babies, mothers rarely mentioned: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand/p06tn77s

Just when you think the BBC have already hit rock bottom....

Vipers? No, just pointing out a few facts.

No, definitely viperish. And a hint of wine breath. 😆

IAmTheLogLady · 18/01/2026 22:30

I haven't seen his knitting, so can't comment on that. No one on MN will argue with you because he's a gay man who used a surrogate.

Not on a school night.

My post stands - just facts.

God job it doesn’t matter if you get it or not then eh?

TeaRoseTallulah · 18/01/2026 22:42

I've found my people, can't stand him!

CreamEggsForever · 19/01/2026 09:10

I am sure he may be a lovely person - my only comment was on the knitting, which is amateurish and I don’t get why it earned him a tv show

Same here. I don't actually know or care much about him, I don't watch (can't stand) any kind of sport so he's not on my radar.
It's his knitting that I don't like and how it's supposed to be so good.

Biskitteef · 23/02/2026 19:48

I refuse to watch anything with him in it, sanctimonious prick.

Coffeeandbooks88 · 23/02/2026 20:03

Yeah his knitting isn't great.

TheCryingTheBitchAndTheFloordrobe · 23/02/2026 20:07

I absolutely cannot bear him and his tedious, performative life.

Bit like Stephen Fry when he met his very young boyfriend now husband. Pedastry all over Fry’s past, not hidden. But never mentioned now.

He wasn’t “very young”. He was 28 when they married and he’s 38 now. If he was a woman, nobody would infantilise him in the same way.

Cariad10 · 23/02/2026 20:19

I am astounded by the comments here. He has a style of knitting that is not fine everyone. It is big and baggy however as the owner of a wool shop I am also delighted by the number of young people who have come to workshops to learn to knit and crochet because if him and who order hand made items in the same style. They don't want beautifully fitted 2 ply garments . I have many customers who do appreciate that style, so horses for courses. In relation to the show he was the presenter. He was not there for his expertise. I also struggle with the issue if his children, many couples not just gay couples use surrogates to have a family. Is it only the gay couples who get yelled at for "renting a womb". Those children appear to have a family who love them which is what we wish for all children surely. Don't like his knitting style fun don't wear it, no one is forcing you to.

hollytheheroic · 23/02/2026 20:26

I have no problem with him ~dons hard hat~

and I've forgotten how to strike through too 😬

This.

Its all very much - “Right - the diving career is over so channel 4 needs to find some kind of platform for this man bc he’s gay and a national treasure (in that this phrase is used for any Tom, dick & Harry these days) - right what’s he up to? Oh, you’re into knitting atm are you Tom? Great! Right let’s set up a pottery-throw-down-type programme for him to head then - it’ll be a sure fire hit”. Box ticked.

All the while there are thousands of talented women out there who would never get this opportunity.

And yes, his “creations” are shit.

🤮

Yup. Fecking men. Buying babies, and just being handed everything on a plate.

Mind you I don't understand the celebrity craze anyway. I'd much rather see somebody unknown but properly talented doing something well rather than z list celebrities doing it crapply.
