A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Thanks @MrsSPenguins I’m back on the Sainsbury’s site now. My OH went there on Saturday to get some Anya potatoes. I find them really tasty, not quite in the Jersey Royal league, but quite nutty.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/02/2026 02:23

Uman: for s'mores you just need graham crackers. Large marshmallows and squares of chocolate. The traditional method is to roast a marshmallow on a stick over a campfire - and try to brown, not burn it, then put between graham crackers with a square of chocolate. Messy, sticky, good.
I think the superior method is to make at home. Slice a marshmallow in half lengthwise and stick each half onto a graham cracker; put into over under the broiler and watch carefully until browned; removed, place a square of Lindt dark choc sea-salt or chilli on top then another cracker. Voila!

Smores will forever remind me of Prince Louis
The family were at an event somewhere and he tried marshmallow between two digestive biscuits and by the look on his face, he has never had anything so nice in his life....

MissConductUS · 03/02/2026 08:52

miss you need to come teach me how to sort the toilet seat, ours doesn’t so much as move slightly as relocate itself entirely 😆*

@EllaDisenchanted, if your toilet seat is moving that much, it might be better to just replace it. They are not very expensive and will come with the parts to attach them to the toilet. Here are some instructions. It's a 5-10 minute job.

I don't know about where you are, but here toilets come in two shapes, one with a round bowl and the other with an elongated bowl. That video shows a bloke replacing the seat meant for an elongated bowl.

@DandyDandylion , we used to make s'mores all the time for the kids. We have a charcoal grill on the deck we use almost every week when the weather is okay, and it was easy to make them over that after dinner was done.

My insomnia seems to be getting worse. I have an appointment with a sleep medicine specialist next week.

DH and I have two retirement-related bureaucratic snafus to clear up. One concerns our Medicare (government health insurance for people over 65) coverage. It's complicated because I also have medical cover from my old employer, and the two of them have to agree who pays first and who pays whatever costs are left. The second concerns an additional tax being imposed on our Social Security (government pension) payments due to our 2024 income. We have to send them documentation showing that our income is lower now that we have stopped working. For example, I have to get a letter from my former employer stating that I am in fact retired and giving the date of my retirement.

It's a lot of admin at the moment, but once it's done, it should be smooth sailing going forward.

It's not a great picture because of the trees, but I took this shot of the Hudson while DH was driving me to church on Sunday.

And speaking of driving, it's not six weeks since the surgery, so I'm allowed to drive again! I went to the pharmacy, picked up a prescription, and got my COVID and pneumonia jabs.

I used a shower cap to wash my hair while I was in hospital until I could shower properly. It wasn't that great but it did mean my hair stopped itching, which it does when it gets really greasy.

bizzey · 03/02/2026 11:08

I got those shower caps for mam after she had her Glaucoma operation on

She is very very very (!!!) fussy about her hair !

But we were both surprised, her even more so , at how easy and ...ok ...they were !

Obviously not a substitute for proper hair wash ...

But it made her feel a little bit refreshed .

We did laugh though when we thought about if I needed them !

My lovely mam has short /thin hair .

My hair is down to mid back and very thick and curly !!

It would never fit in the cap !

They are surprisingly a tight fit .

She is washing her hair now and there is one left ...
I might give it a go !!

bizzey · 03/02/2026 11:12

I have a potato and leek soup in the slow cooker ..
1 st time at attempting it !

Soup is my .. nemesis !

I have a bolognase ragu made and ready to turn into a lasagna.

I just need to learn not to keep 'tweaking '

I feels a bit runny at the moment...
But then I know it thickens /changes when it goes between the pasta .

I have changed my flavor bases and and happy though !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/02/2026 06:20

How was your soup @bizzey ?

I made a salad for dinner and added chopped kalettes. I made a pasta for everyone else by steaming kalettes and grape tomatoes, adding heavy cream, seasoning with s&p and garlic powder, then adding almost al dente rigatoni to finish cooking by absorbing the cream.

The rain is back and it's 10c.

Miss, I hope you get your sleep issue sorted soon. 💐

That looks so good @Mumtobabyhavoc I can't get hold of any kalettes at the moment. They are sold out in my online supermarkets, and I've tried a few. I'm going to keep on it though!

bizzey · 04/02/2026 11:42

It was interesting @Mumtobabyhavoc ! 😁.

I didn't use enough liquid so it went a bit gloopy when I blitzed it .

Then it got late and I was tired...so I just put it in the fridge and will add more stock today.

Soup is mainly for easy meals for mam .
She is not a big eater now .

Lasagna was a big it though ! 😲😂.

I wasn't sure at first.

I did it differently this time .

Gave DS some.

A while later he said he had put it in the fridge.

I went down to portion it up for freezing and storing ..

He has nearly eaten all of it 😂😂.

So ...it was definitely edible ....just not as cost effective as I had hoped , by using the he leftovers !

He has more at midnight.
I have got a small slither for lunch !

No cooking today as it is such a beautiful day here I have windows open and cleaning happening !

Lovely smell of fresh air coming in the windows instead of damp rain !

MyrtleLion · 04/02/2026 11:54

I continue to knit for my BFF's soon-to-be-born DGS. I have actually made a cute little jacket which is the first thing I've knitted for someone to.eear that isn't a hat or a scarf.

A medical appointment yesterday means I have to have an MRI and it looks like it will mean more rest and physiotherapy for months.

bizzey · 04/02/2026 13:59

Soup disaster averted !!

I took them out of the tubs , put in big jug and added 3OOml (approx /give or take !) of chicken stock.

Stirred .

DS asked what I was doing.
I told him .
He got a spoon to taste ....

He got a bowl to fill 😂😂..

I heated it and added grated cheese.

He doesn't like Parmesan.
In fact ...he doesn't really like soup 😂.

So that is 2 meals I made from scratch with a loose recipe..that my CHEF son has approved, liked and had more then one helping of !

bizzey · 04/02/2026 14:05

As I said earlier .. beautiful day here today.

Sunshine and fresh air .

Windows open , curtains blowing ...

Next door have got a machine on their drive ... right outside the windows..

Grinding and grating wood or some stuff !!

The noise !!

....

BadgernTheGarden · 04/02/2026 14:09

Just clearing last year's tomato pots out of the greenhouse. Planted the seeds for this year's last week so thought it was about time.

MrsSPenguins · 04/02/2026 15:02

Its a beautiful day here too for this time of year, sunny and about 10C. We are going to the Kew Gardens orchid festival this weekend so hope the weather is nice that day though the orchids are indoors so its manageable either way.

Our solar dandelions arrived early in the day which was good as we had an all day delivery slot. Had some greek yoghurt with mango, this mango was much nicer than the speciality mango I got the other day. It was meant to be papaya but got swapped to mango.

DS decided to have a 3.12am bath for 40 minutes. He's asd so happy he's bathing whatever the time. There were 4 empty bottles afterwards, does love his shampoo, conditioner and floral bath foams. This woke the cat who then decided to start poking for breakfast after I had just finished cleaning the bathroom from DS. The cat also was poking with his big white paw at the normal breakfast time.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/02/2026 16:02

Just watching the sun come up here Penguins and Bizzey.

I think I actually had a decent sleep last night! I was awake just two times and slept about 8 hours total. It's a bit of a big deal for me with having two little ones, Baby just out of the middle of the night feeds now since last fall, I think. So, overall it's been about 4 years without an uninterrupted night.

Both dc are still asleep, although Baby woke me at 7am to tell me the garbage truck was here then went back to sleep. After about 20 mins I decided to get up and put coffee in and here I am. 💁‍♀️
I'm going to drink my coffee and settle in with a morning talk show now before the pitter patter of little feet.

I need a little time chart for you @Mumtobabyhavoc n
You are 08.16 (am obviously ! ). AM .

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/02/2026 16:39

Bizzey, yep, 8hrs behind you. 🥱

DC woke up and I heard them meowing at each other. 🩷
Now we're all up having breakfast. I'm trying to watch the talk show without success due to constant intereuptions...😵‍💫
And I've taken a call from recycling about a pick-up I requested.
Heading out to GP soon. Will take dc as there is a nice park near there.

Havoc, I remember those sleepless nights with the kids waking me up. Mine were 22 months apart, so I also didn't get a break for four years. Now, the kids are grown, and I have insomnia. 😬Do you have a cat or cats? That would explain the kids meowing at each other.

Bizzey, I'm five hours behind the UK. Because of the bloody insomnia, I often post while it's still morning for you.

@DanaScullysLegoHairThat is quite a handsome mug.

Our huge new snowblower was delivered yesterday. DH used it to clean up the driveway edges after the last storm. Since it's self-propelled, he was also learning how to steer it. It has an LED headlight, tracks, and starts with the turn of a key, like a car. It's quite an upgrade. With the new, larger doors we had installed last week, it actually fits in the crawl space at the back of our garage.

I had my second follow-up with the cardiologist this morning. He says I'm doing really well. My next follow-up exam with the cardiac surgeon is next week.

The kids have locked the bathroom door.
They're currently giving an interesting story to my mum about it. Something about alarms and mechanics.

OP posts:
MissConductUS · 04/02/2026 21:54

Do you think they know how to unlock the door?

bizzey · 04/02/2026 22:47

@Mumtobabyhavoc please say that they got out !
