Woo hoo @FurForksSake!

@WalkingOnMarshmallows77 yes it's nice to have a friendly chat thread for day to day life and a moan about any pain or limitations

Glad Idris is helping! I see he has been knighted for services to womankind, so a more worthy recipient than many!

He is so great in Hijack. So capable and on it. I've been fantasising about him popping round to put my Christmas decorations in the loft and make me a cuppa ( I bet he could put my picture up too) ๐Ÿคฃ

In exciting news Iโ€™ve been told I only need to be in the office two days a week and can offer online appointments and work virtually the rest of the time. Which will make life a bit easier.

That's fantastic news ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

I think I need to watch Hijack. Is it very violent?

FurForksSake · 18/01/2026 11:21

Apparently whole team has moved to more hybrid. It means more screen time and less face to face sessions. But also me not being so stressed and wasting time with driving and booking rooms. We shall see!

VikingNorthUtsire · 18/01/2026 11:30

That's great news @FurForksSake

Welcome @WalkingOnMarshmallows77 . Have you and the other headphones people tried Loop earplugs? Supposed to be very good. I have bought myself a pair (they were on special offer on Amazon) but as I am partially deaf I find them a little too noise cancelling.

Swanhilde · 18/01/2026 11:41

Morning all - it's nice and busy on here ๐Ÿ˜Š

Another day of rest for me. In bed with my knitting and tea. And I'm going to listen to another episode of the Clearing podcast which I'm really enjoying ๐Ÿงถ โ˜• ๐ŸŽง

DD is back to uni today, although is currently suffering with an almighty hangover. We will pour her onto a train later - no doubt she'll be fine by then. Oh to be young again!

With DD gone, next week will be back to our calm routine โค๏ธ

Have a peaceful day all ๐Ÿ’•

There's a few moments but it's not grizzly or anything. Nothing like Luther!

OK you've convinced me! Luther was too much.

Kitterkitkat · 18/01/2026 12:16

Which one should I watch? Hijack or Luther?

@Swanhilde it actually sounds like you're being productive! I should imagine it's nice seeing dd tear around but also peaceful afterwards

BodysBroken · 18/01/2026 12:31

I broke my neck last Sunday! It was a 'minor' fracture apparently, not that it felt like it at the time. I'm home now but mostly resting as I'm absolutely wiped out and it hurts to hold my head up for more than a few minutes.

I've now had 5 near-misses for permanent, major disability in the last 3 years so we've decided to embark on a major extension/renovation/disability adaptation project so that the house is suitable for ground floor living should I end up needing it. I'm really exciting to get going on it! So I'm in bed looking at floor plans and fittings.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 18/01/2026 12:36

OMG @BodysBroken ! I can't even imagine. Hugs to you and thinking of you. Thanks

TeaAndStrumpets · 18/01/2026 12:41

I've just deleted all the messages from the Gmail promotions folder, going back over a decade! Like Lord Baden Powell, I believe a good clear is essential but I think he meant daily!

While glancing down emails due for the bin I noticed one from Channel4 saying Love it or List it is back. Oh joy! I've watched many an episode when in a crash.

I really love property renovation programmes. There was a super one called the Great House Revival set in Ireland which I loved. I've got Irish ancestors both sides so I enjoyed seeing the countryside and little villages. When my Mum went over in the 90s she met some old bachelor cousins who still used a turf fire for cooking!

FurForksSake · 18/01/2026 12:44

@BodysBroken blimey! How did you manage that? Iโ€™m glad itโ€™s not a complicated fracture but much sympathy.

TeaAndStrumpets · 18/01/2026 12:50

@BodysBroken oh dear! Sending you very best wishes.

MewithME · 18/01/2026 13:11

Oh good grief @BodysBroken so sorry to hear that. How scary!

@Kitterkitkat I think Luther was of its time. I loved it then but when I tried to rewatch it, it was just too nasty. I think perhaps the world is nastier now and I feel less resilient. Luther is too dark for me now. Hijack is just a fun ride and it feels nice that Idris is in control and it'll all be ok ๐Ÿ˜†

@TeaAndStrumpets I used to like Grand Designs but can't look at other people's houses now because I feel like a failure with mine. I feel totally overwhelmed by it. I lost everything age 40 with the worst divorce. ( and brutal exh). I absolutely clawed my way through and got a new property and started trying to improve it. It all stalled when I got MEcfs. I have no idea how to live in a small house with MEcfs and do it up. It doesn't feel possible. It was hard enough doing it as a single parent, working FT when I was well.

I have just cleaned it a bit today so that's something at least! Smells better!

@MewithME he sounds horrible ๐Ÿ™
I had an ex like that too, it really knocks you for six because you expect people to be decent

TodayIsatrickyone · 18/01/2026 13:24

Hello you chatty bunch, far too many things to reply to but @BodysBroken sending sympathy and @FurForksSake the WFH days is excellent news and hopefully make it more manageable. @TeaAndStrumpets looking forward to news of the electric scrubber! Sorry things are still not great @MewithME but glad Idris could help a tad.

Gentle hugs to all those struggling, sounds like most of us. I know this damp weather definitely affects my pain levels ( fibro) Iโ€™m firmly in the rubbish camp today too, achy muscles, sore joints, glands up and that horrible woozy feeling that hits when I get up and try to function. Managed to get washed, brush teeth and into clean clothes but quickly felt awful so now lying on the bed again with the heated throw and not ventured downstairs yet. DH dropped DD at work earlier and after a conversation the other day about Macdonalds breakfast menu, and how Iโ€™d never tried it, he came back with a coffee and egg McMuffin for me to try which was very welcome!

FuzzyPuffling · 18/01/2026 13:29

Happy Sunday all.
The trapped nerve in my shoulder blade is back with a vengeance...ow. But in the great scheme of things is fairly minor.

@MewithME I too started again in my early 40s. Don't despair, and can we make any suggestions for your house?

TeaAndStrumpets · 18/01/2026 14:25

Overwhelmed with thoughts of a nice easy to run house I've just cleaned out my chest of drawers. I was ruthless! Half a binbag of uncomfortable bras, greying pants, shabby nighties, too tight socks. Gone! I felt faint after 15 minutes and had to sit down again but a good result. The ridiculous thing is I have nice bras, pants, nighties and socks....but I had not thrown the old ones out!

When DH was packing an overnight bag for me last time while waiting for an ambulance I had to dictate from my sick bed...."yes some pants, but not those, yes a nightie but not that one"! Lesson learned.

Kitterkitkat · 18/01/2026 14:37

@TeaAndStrumpets I've really enjoyed packing a hospital bag! It's a nightmare when you end up there without your stuff.

Just a few items of clothing, face wash, socks + knickers, bit of makeup, pen + paper, moisturiser etc.

Only things I need to buy for it are Bluetooth headphones and spare 2m charging cable.

For some reason it makes me feel serene and content packing it ๐Ÿ˜ณ

TeaAndStrumpets · 18/01/2026 14:39

@TodayIsatrickyone reading back how lovely to have such wonderful room service! Hope your Macdonalds gives you a nice boost of energy.

Yes bated breath re the scrubber! DD1 has marble tiles in a limescale area so miracles are hoped for.

@FuzzyPuffling ouch that sounds painful, hope it eases off.

Oh that sounds nice and organised! I would not trust DH to do it right! Many years ago he was collecting me after a week in hospital, I didn't have clothes wth me so I phoned with a list. He brought me woolly winter tights, despite it being summer. No clue.
