How lovely @FurForksSake this is an exciting new venture! Even factory made tiles cost a fortune for anything nice, so handmade and painted should repay the effort. Get yourself on Instagram to build up some followers!

We need a coach trip . Crates of Mackeson in the back optional. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

TodayIsatrickyone · 29/01/2026 13:55

Ahh reading this thread and you lovely lot have cheered me up today. Count me in for a pottery trip!

Utterly fed up here, still on a major flood warning which is always a worry as our boundary wall is the flood defence wall so when the river bursts itโ€™s banks it flows right past the end of our garden.
We have been monitoring river levels all day yesterday and felt relief this morning to see levels going down, still high but not rising at least. However closing the floodgates has meant a lot of surface water with nowhere
to go and for first time since living here (25 years!) my back garden is under water. Its not coming in ;yet) but itโ€™s close enough to worry.

Now the Electrics in the utility room ( garden level) have just tripped and DH is worried there could be water underneath there somewhere. Heโ€™s phoned a friends son ( electrician) who said he will pop by later to check itโ€™s safe. Sure it will be okay as river levels are slowly going down now but Itโ€™s just all been rather stressful!

Iโ€™m super excited but had a cry about the kiln arriving. I want it all to be so perfect and I want it to be my exit strategy from the nhs and into being an artist. And I feel like a total and utter imposter.

I have some wonky pots Iโ€™m going fire and play around with.

Yes! Iโ€™ll take photos of my little studio space, I mean garage ๐Ÿ˜Š

It's v exciting. One of my oldest friends is a ceramicist. She gave it up though she's still making art. Love her stuffy. I treasure one of my little pots she made.

In other news...I have had a nap. It was lush but downside....getting up for the second time today is a struggle ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿคญ

I'm going to get coffee and back to my desk. My ears are ringing which is a sure sign the nap was much needed.

@TodayIsatrickyone hope you're ok, we had water
up to the back door once with flash floods and I still panic with heavy rain.
@FurForksSake you must be so excited for the kiln arriving!
Felt sick and exhausted today with time of the month and last thing I felt like was going out.
Drove past hairdressers to see the shutters down then saw the message he was needing to close today.
Got my hairdye and a few food bits and back in bed resting.
Waste of an afternoon off really but that's ok.
More hassle from next door via council, landlord has gone quiet for now as has probably realised his mistakes. Although council thing could be him.
Going to have a nap then sort washing.

TodayIsatrickyone · 29/01/2026 18:01

Thanks @Stressybetty its scary isnโ€™t it. Iโ€™ve just had a knot of fear in my stomach for 2 full days now and seeing such high water levels from each window doesnโ€™t help!
We actually thought it was coming in this morning as the surface water was also right up to the back door. We moved everything up on the surfaces of the utility room and turned off the appliances though something had tripped them anyway. Electrician friend is here taking a look right now and to see if we can get them back on but Iโ€™m upstairs keeping the dog out of his way! Also slightly scared to hear his verdict as I feel Iโ€™ve had enough stress today.

I just hope tomorrow is less stressful. Rain is forecast but I pray itโ€™s not too heavy or we will be stuffed! DH keeps reminding me his mum is away so we have a safe place if we need it but I really donโ€™t want to need it!

Orangesandlemons77 · 29/01/2026 19:53

My health drama continues, went to the dentists today for a routine check up and they have referred me for a 2 week wait appt for this growth on the top of my mouth. I had googled this thing in the past and thought it was ok / normal but apparently he wants it checked due to the colour of it.

Makes me think what next- is this fatigue etc maybe due to something more serious?

But stressing doesn't help anything does it so will just wait for it and see what they say

Also need a filling for ยฃ295 which is annoying but not as much as the tests etc

I'm aware there are others on the thread with cancer so sorry to be moaning on about this when might not even be anything. Kind thoughts to all Flowers

Stressybetty · 29/01/2026 22:11

@Orangesandlemons77 hope growth is ok, 2 weeks can seem a very long time. That seems a lot for a filling too!
I know what you mean about moaning when others on here have life threatening things going on โค๏ธ
DH & I slowly working our way through Severance season 1, well I'm enjoying it, DH instantly falls asleep!
A film I enjoyed as well and managed to really escape into (if you all know what I mean) was 3 thousand years of longing.
Also loved loved Cyrano with Peter Dinklage.

TeaAndStrumpets · 30/01/2026 00:45

@Orangesandlemons77 don't worry about moaning, this thread is for chronic conditions and most people are in the same boat, especially with fluctuating conditions which are always waiting in ambush!
Sorry about the gum concerns. My brother had the same and was really panicked but it was a very fast all clear - so the 2ww is good from that point of view.

@TodayIsatrickyone hope the flood recedes soon, it sounds like a tense few days.

@Stressybetty we started Severance but couldn't get into it. Maybe we should have another try. My DH drifts off with archaeology programmes even though he loves them....they're just too peaceful!

I've been to bed once tonight but my brain is buzzing so I just got up for a bit.

MewithME · 30/01/2026 07:36

Morning all. Made it to Friday. I have a busy ISH one work wise and haven't slept well. Suspect it's peri/meno symptom but I'm itching like mad with a few tiny little spots here and there. Not a rash. Just random. I had this when my Dad died so I remember it being hormonal and stress related.

I don't feel particularly stressed but then I think I'm probably chronically stressed.

Sorry about the other worries you have sad t the moment all. @Orangesandlemons77 and @TodayIsatrickyone especially.

Floods are stressful. I don't live near the river but it caused loads of disruption around here when we're in flood which is usually a few times a year.

Morning all!

@MewithME I occasionally get
those little spots. Itch like buggery. I use Weleda bites and stings spray (Combudoron) which is really good at stopping the itch. I once read that they are caused by excess histamine.

Swanhilde · 30/01/2026 09:49

Lovely afternoon yesterday. Pottery great fun and catching up with my friend was well needed ๐Ÿ˜Š

Off to the allotment now - have a peaceful day all. @FurForksSake kiln photos please, hoping for a stress free delivery ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ’•๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ„

FuzzyPuffling · 30/01/2026 10:51

I went for an 80 minute walk round the park with DD1 and her very lively dog. I feel quite proud of myself for keeping up, but I'm knackered now!

Currently sitting on the sofa with Girlcat on my lap!

FurForksSake · 30/01/2026 11:20

It has arrived! It needs to be moved and to go on to its trolley, but itโ€™s here.

What are you up to today if you have a chronic illness? Thread 5
TodayIsatrickyone · 30/01/2026 11:57

Ooh exciting delivery @FurForksSake

Hope everything is okay @Orangesandlemons77 I know the two week wait is stressful but hopefully youโ€™ll get seen quickly and get some answers. DD and a good friend were both recently referred this way for different issues and both seen in a week ( both positive outcomes) so the NHS still works well in this situation if that reassures you any.

Thanks @MewithME and @TeaAndStrumpets water levels are falling finally so I feel like I can breathe today. No oven due to a previous kitchen fitter apparently connecting a wire under the floorboards and as we suspected there was water under the house which has got to it which then tripped everything else but electrician friend made it safe though it will need to be re wired when water levels drop to future proof it.
Otherwise the water by our back door has subsided overnight so thatโ€™s a massive relief as yesterday we felt helpless just watching it rise and waiting.
Of course physically Iโ€™m pretty dreadful today as stress does that to my body but that was totally out of my control so not much to be done. DH is also shattered so a quiet day needed for both of us today. Might find some calming TV to watch and were discussing fish & chips for dinner even though itโ€™s morning!

Hope everyone can have a calm Friday and cope with the challenges you're facing today.

Ohhh huge Severance fans in this house (always had a big Adam Scott crush, which helps ๐Ÿ˜)

VikingNorthUtsire · 30/01/2026 17:17

Also congratulations @FurForksSake on the new addition to your family. That is a whopper! Can't wait to see your creations.

No excitement here. I've been working. Poor DH has been chasing around after his elderly parents and running errands that he had to abandon earlier in the week because of the flooding on the roads.

Yeah..... I think you're right. It's either undiagnosed MCAS or perimemopausal or both.

Still itching like mad but DS is with his Dad this weekend now he's back from his holiday. I'm going to bed in a moment. Had a potato Dauphinoise ready meal for tea. I stink now but it was lovely.
