Young people driving 100k+ Cars? How?

BeGoldWasp · 02/01/2026 16:27

I just drove past a male who looked young 20s driving a 100k+ car. How is that even possible? I've seen them a few times and still confuses me how every-time. Is this common? Bentley for reference.

Footballer perhaps? They seem well remunerated.

Ah ha! 😆 Yep, some well off people in Cheshire! One of the wealthiest counties in the country!

Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Knutsford - the golden triangle. It's spreading further every year.

SpigTheFish · 02/01/2026 18:20

Oops - Prestbury, not Knutsford, although Knutsford is lovely.

Alfiemoon1 · 02/01/2026 18:27

There are quite a few footballers in Mere knutsford we dog walk for a friend who’s next door neighbour is an Everton player her brother lives round corner and his ndn is an Man City player both premier league players

Echobelly · 02/01/2026 18:35

Finance, loans, parents I guess? I'm 48 and earn quite well, but drive a piece of crap car because we don't really care about that stuff, but I notice when I go to the gym (middle class/upper middle class area) loads of 20-somethings rocking up in Range Rovers and Teslas and Audis.

Each to their own I suppose - I used to be judgy about people driving cars it didn't seem like they could afford but I've realised for a lot of people, the car they drive is a big part of their identity and so they want to drive one they think has cachet, and it's their money so if they want to spend on that, that's their prerogative.

Burntout01 · 02/01/2026 18:43

There are, believe it or not, a lot of very wealthy people out there OP. Who don’t think twice about offering that lifestyle to their adult kids.

GlitterBattle · 02/01/2026 18:49

FuzzyWolf · 02/01/2026 16:45

Presumably it’s because they can afford the car. Age isn’t a determination of income or salary. Many younger people have a greater disposable income than those who are juggling childcare, and general parenting costs.

Hm I think they just live at home to he honest. That’s what I’ve seen a lot of anyway.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 02/01/2026 18:50

Nepo babies or leases

not even hp but the other one, pcp

THisbackwithavengeance · 02/01/2026 19:01

How does anyone afford anything? Maybe he’s a drug dealer. 🤷‍♂️

I see this a bit too ** I live near the Cheshire border though. And there's money there!
It's a mix of...
Internet Influencers (people can mock them but they make shit loads.)
Internet content creators - also mocked but also make shitloads. I know (personally) 5 such young people who rake in £100K to £150Kper year (some years even more, like £250K,) purely from their work on the internet. They also get freebies, and get gifted loads of things from various companies for including their products in their videos. Free holidays (abroad) and tech, and clothing, and all sorts.
Daddy's money (and in some cases Mummy's!)
Young sports stars (a few footballers not too far from me.)
Young people who have invested in bitt coin, and been lucky!
Young people who have created something in tech, like an app. My DD is friends with a bloke who invented a particular app around 8 years ago, and he was a millionaire by the age of 25.
Nothing they own (any of the above) is on finance.
(spelt bitt coyn wrong in the hope my post doesn't get hidden!) 😬I'm sure you know what I mean! 😆

Plenty of that going on in the Golden Triangle, in-fact nobody in Alderley Edge bats an eye lid at even at a £3 Million Bugatti Chiron. As for £100 K that is very average there. For Example a top of the range G63 AMG is £210 a Lamborghini Hurrican 280K Plus. £100 K car these days is probably a 'poverty' spec 911..

However, there are a large number of 'certain' types of people driving around in Lambo's that don't even have Driving Licences, let alone Insurance. Make your own mind up about the 'ethnic' make up and god knows what happens if they were to crash or kill someone.

This, bit always astound me that they are people who even if they leased a Lamborghini Hurrican that they would let someone lose without even a driving licence in that car. Similarly, how long do these people expect to go around in such a car without car tax. Years ago it used to be £500 old banger cars that had no tax or insurance. Therefore, away from The Golden Triangle and other areas (though it is a bit unique other than Central London, because Wealthy Southern Areas don't quite have the same Car Culture) a lot of the people driving 'expensive' cars are likely to be very 'Dodgy' to say the least.

Finally, to even 'correctly' be able to afford to lease/PCP a £200 K plus car, you need to be doing seriously well. The, people who say its only 'Leased' have either not got a clue, or more likely very jealous.

SerpentQueen · 02/01/2026 19:02

Where i live, they're hired or borrowed, sometimes owned jointly with others. These tend not to be driving around town cars, but paraded on special occasions/celebrations.

ChristmasHug · 02/01/2026 19:05

When our chairman left his Bentley was put in a weekly raffle for staff to use. Bloody terrifying the week I got it!

Some people are rich. Maybe family money. Maybe he had luck with crypto. Maybe he's a very popular influencer and Bentley gave him a car.

ChocolateSqueezyyogurts · 02/01/2026 19:08

Drug dealers, the lot of them.

taxguru · 02/01/2026 19:14

Drug dealers usually, or other forms of money laundering, modern slavery etc.

skippy67 · 02/01/2026 19:15

My guess is, they're probably rich. Hth.

brunettemic · 02/01/2026 19:16

BeGoldWasp · 02/01/2026 16:35

But they need to have a necessary income to pass finance for such a car. So still cant be a small income.

Mid 20s can easily be earning enough to afford that.

😆

They're not all drug dealers either, or money launderers! (As has been suggested.) I'm sure a few are though! 😂 I don't live a million miles from these people/not miles away from Alderley Edge/posh/rich areas, but I do see the wealth, and occasionally brush shoulders with such people.

I'm not one of them though. Noooooooooo. I wish! 😆
