Young people driving 100k+ Cars? How?

BeGoldWasp · 02/01/2026 16:27

I just drove past a male who looked young 20s driving a 100k+ car. How is that even possible? I've seen them a few times and still confuses me how every-time. Is this common? Bentley for reference.

Presumably it’s because they can afford the car. Age isn’t a determination of income or salary. Many younger people have a greater disposable income than those who are juggling childcare, and general parenting costs.

MrsWobble3 · 02/01/2026 16:46

I always assume they’re footballers

I see this a bit too @BeGoldWasp I live near the Cheshire border though. And there's money there!

It's a mix of...

Internet Influencers (people can mock them but they make shit loads.)

Internet content creators - also mocked but also make shitloads. I know (personally) 5 such young people who rake in £100K to £150Kper year (some years even more, like £250K,) purely from their work on the internet. They also get freebies, and get gifted loads of things from various companies for including their products in their videos. Free holidays (abroad) and tech, and clothing, and all sorts.

Daddy's money (and in some cases Mummy's!)

Young sports stars (a few footballers not too far from me.)

Young people who have invested in bitt coin, and been lucky!

Young people who have created something in tech, like an app. My DD is friends with a bloke who invented a particular app around 8 years ago, and he was a millionaire by the age of 25.

Nothing they own (any of the above) is on finance.

(spelt bitt coyn wrong in the hope my post doesn't get hidden!) 😬I'm sure you know what I mean! 😆

Ah ha! 😆 Yep, some well off people in Cheshire! One of the wealthiest counties in the country!

Seen them a few times now not once.

When I was a late teenager/early 20s I lived at home and drove my mums car all the time. It’s really not that abnormal.

Difference is this is a bentley not a normal cheap car.

The Bentley factory is just on the outskirts of Crewe. Lots of reasons someone who works there might be driving a Bentley nearby.

BeGoldWasp · 02/01/2026 17:23

The exact same person, the exact same reg months apart.

I don’t know but I have a school mum friend who has a £100k+ custom Range Rover. She, best I can tell, doesn’t work. She apparently has a “retail shop” but it’s in a location far from us and she’s only there maybe once a month. She mostly just seems to be home in her pyjamas.

Now if she was a particularly savvy business woman, I might assume that she is running this business so successfully that she’s rolling in it, never needs to actually be on site and thus has loads to blow on this very expensive car. But she is, let’s just say, not the sharpest crayon in the box. She absolutely could hold down a retail job, yes. But I just can’t see her being a hugely profitable entrepreneur. Even if it was something dodgy. She truly isn’t that clever.

No partner. No wealthy parents or family money. Dh and I actually do run a very successful retail business and make a lot of money and I drive an aged £6k Volvo. 😂

Yes. Soho house has opened in Manchester for a reason. Lots of money in Manchester and surrounding areas. Loads of young people living in the fancy towers in the city.

HighStreetOtter · 02/01/2026 17:27

@mindutopia does she have an OnlyFans account? 🤣

Where I live, they’d be assumed to be a drug dealer.

Where I live assumed and true (South Yorkshire/North Derbyshire)

miamo12 · 02/01/2026 17:32

There’s a few young men here with very flashy cars (super cars like a McLaren, a Ferrari, Lamborghini) apparently they are professional footballers, division 1 club not premier league, so they can’t afford flashy houses (two life in flats that I know cost circa £450k) but spend on cars.

BeGoldWasp · 02/01/2026 16:30

A car of such value is still 2k+ a month.

Parents pay and cover insurance.
No more £500 gaffer tape and Araldite jobs for the modern first time car...

What parents pay for over 30k a year just to run a car.

wavingfuriously · 02/01/2026 17:40

Alfiemoon1 · 02/01/2026 17:46

Footballer influencer bank of mum and dad or lives at home no rent or other bills

And? If they’re rich, the car is as valuable to them as my parents “cheap car” (thanks for that rude assumption by the way) is to them.

Pedallleur · 02/01/2026 17:51

Some cultures eg Pakistani or Indian young men borrow or rent them. I know someone who loaned his BMW recently. All about image and status. Some hire them or may have wealthy parents. He was also asked about borrowing his watch as the potential borrower was going back to Pakistan. Other people make 2k a month to pay the finance. Might be legitimate or a business that generates a lot of cash

Purplewarrior · 02/01/2026 17:52

My ex bf when I was 17 used to drive his dad’s Rolls Royce around regularly. We used to get stopped by police regularly!

Quite a lot.
Village near to us is known for the offspring in mid/late 20s living at home and driving Mercedes AMG etc. And this is in the north east, not London.

You would be surprised. I work at a Uni and there is an Emirates student who ships his car over to the UK. We had another student who drove a high end Audi but left it parked anywhere and accrued a lot of tickets. He seemingly had a choice of Audi, Bentley or Mercedes as that's what there was at home. Some years ago one student had a Bentley Convertible, a gift from her father!!

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 02/01/2026 18:01

Illegal means is one of the unpallatable reasons...

my aunt worked in parking for a london council and had more than 1 run in with a social workers over her refusal to issue parking permits for luxury cars driven by "unaccompanied minors" and "children" in care...

These were 17yos with no visible means of finance beyond government hand outs driving lambos/ RR / whatever.

That said I see loads of boys in flash cars at DL - from listening to their inane chat in the spa.....most /all live with their mum and dads and spend their salary from their 28/30k pa job on the car and DL membership 😅
