What are you by going to watch at 2am and can’t sleep when Friends leaves Netflix tomorrow??

this is not a thread if you don’t like friends or not! 😂
Friends has always been a go to of mine when I wake up in the night and can’t sleep. I pop it on and it blocks out any “chatter” in my head and I can normally go back to sleep again. Or if I wake in the night not feeling well with my IBS, I pop it on to focus on to remove the anxiety. What on earth am I going to listen to when it goes from Netflix tomorrow??? White noise like rain etc doesn’t work. I need something that I don’t need to focus on. Although I did look and you can buy friends on Amazon prime, so might have to resort to that!!

So I woke up at 4am and yep, it’s gone 😩 I put the Simpson’s on (from S1E1) and 10 episodes in I was still awake 🙄. (I don’t watch it, I have an earphone in and listen to it). Think it’s going to take some getting used to as Friends was all one volume as it’s just people talking. Whereas Simpson’s the audio changes throughout the episode 🤣.

I looked at literally 00:01 and it had gone.

I put superstore on.

The only series I re-watch all the time is Still Game.

Apparently it’s owned by HBO along with Big Bang Theory (?) and they’ve withdrawn it from Netflix as they are launching these shows on their new (to the UK) streaming service ‘Max’ being launched early 2026, so they can have some popular content to tempt subscribers in

Just another reason why going back to physical media is the way forward.

Otherwise we’d need 5 or 6 streaming services to see the shows we want.

We went to a charity shop over the weekend and I found Friends box sets of series 2,3,5,7,8 & 9 for €20. Just need to source the gaps!

Yeah I linked to it upthread. Max is coming in March!

Everything could well change again if Netflix acquires Warner Bros.

MrsLeonFarrell · 31/12/2025 15:00

A bit different but i listen to podcasts in similar circumstances. Things like The Rest is History, Curious Cases or Natalie Haynes stands up for the Classics cos BBC Sounds. Interesting but also on repeat soothing

I think so, I think that’s why they withheld it from UK channels, so it was a selling point. It’s basically going to be stuff that’s normally on Sky Atlantic, so I don’t know how badly that will be affected.

Tyburnx · 31/12/2025 19:29

I used to only be able to sleep if I could hear police sirens, after getting addicted to a random Sky channel that aired Road Wars constantly.
Then spent about 2 years falling asleep to Deadly Women (on Amazon / PlutoTV)
Now discoverd a rolling Vera channel on itvx. Never managed to get thru a whole episode yet, think it's the North East accent that knocks me out in 5 minutes flat

Just started Younger - 22 minute episodes and it’s brilliant absorbing and funny so perfect for a swift brain reset!

Yes, I was going to suggest that, it's a nice easy watch isn't it, I started it just before Christmas.

fishfingerbutty · 31/12/2025 19:34

Derry Girls

I wish they would just put it on ch 4 or something!!!

BG2015 · 31/12/2025 19:35

My DP has the same issue as they've taken down Big Bang Theory - that's his go to watch at 2 am too

Wonderbug81 · 31/12/2025 19:57

These shows just do the rotations on the streaming channels. Mad Men came off Neflix and was on Prime within a few days a while back (for free). Hopefully it will pop up somewhere.

Keep an eye on the Justwatch site which tells you where it's on and whether it's free (with subscription) or not on any streaming services.

🤣🤣i find the same with 48 hours on Pluto, I never finish an episode but they’re on a continuous loop and strangely I’ve picked up a few where I nodded off the last time !

Thesummer · 31/12/2025 21:59

Motherland!!
The OC
Gilmore Girls - I'm only on my first watch but I've fallen asleep so many times to this and yet I still don't seem to miss much, every episode seems to be the same.

BG2015 · 31/12/2025 22:02

DP has found the answer. Spotify has all of the Big Bang Theory episodes on it. He only needs to listen to it as he's watched it so many times he can visualise what's happening.

chillichoclove · 31/12/2025 22:05

So bereft

NerrSnerr · 31/12/2025 22:08

Schitts Creek or Superstore I think.

FamBae · 07/01/2026 15:53

If you have terrestrial tv Friends is constantly on channel 5, I leave it on for my dogs.
