Velvetiser - do you use yours?

Hi
had ads popping up for velvetisers and they looks great! Never used one but they seem to be simple enough.

Salter one is on offer for £30 at the moment - worth getting it for Xmas week as all the kids will be home so sure it’ll be well used for this week at least!

any feedback or any other recommendations for a cheap is one pls?

I've never used one, sorry. I have seen adverts for the super fancy Ninja coffee machine which are about £550 though. I would just LOVE one of those!

There is a problem though, and also with a velvetiser (which I have also considered buying in the past). That problem is I hate coffee and never drink any hot drinks whatsoever and I live on my own with a dog who also never has hot drinks 😆

I did succumb to an ice cube making machine this summer. Now that gets used every day (but on hot days, the dog carefully took each ice cube out of her water bowl, took them individually out of the dog flap and spat them out on the patio!).

No, I bought the hotel chocolat one last Christmas and used it about 6 times before it got relegated to the ‘shit we have bought and never use’ cupboard.

I should add, it was very good, despite not getting use

Florencesndzebedee · 21/12/2025 14:58

Dc love theirs but the hot chocolate never gets really hot. Fuss free.

daffodilandtulip · 21/12/2025 14:59

I'd love to use mine all the time but they're always lukewarm.

NoTouch · 21/12/2025 15:00

Most people I have known who got one raved about them, but it was really a novelty item, that after first winter of use got relegated to the back of the cupboard and forgot about,

Guess it depends on how much you like hot chocolate! If you don’t drink it frequently it seems like another kitchen gadget taking up space.

blibblibs · 21/12/2025 15:01

I got a hot chocolat one for my birthday and it's been used almost daily for the last three months. The hot chocolate doesn't come out hot hot but it's perfect drinking temperature for me. I love mine, just wish I had the newer version which does cold drinks too!

We use our velvetiser pretty much daily. Have done for 5 years.

If you want it hotter boil the kettle in parallel and use hot water to heat up the mug first.

RaraRachael · 21/12/2025 15:03

My daughter had the Hotel Chocolat one and used it a few times then realised it wasn't anything special. Couldn't be bothered with it in the end and sold it.

Soonenough · 21/12/2025 15:04

Was also thinking of getting one . But now I see the posts about it not being hot enough I won't bother . I hate that anytime I order one out it's never hot enough for me . Suppose it's a safety thing.

GrannyTeapot · 21/12/2025 15:06

We use ours every night to make warm bedtime milk. It’s also good for warming milk for cereal in winter. It’s been very much appreciated the two years since I got it.

ChristmasHug · 21/12/2025 15:09

I love a hot chocolate and my mum has been desperate to buy me a velvetiserr for years.

I don't want one, it'd take up space and doesn't look that easy to clean.

I used to microwave milk then use one of those mini electric whisks which worked well. Dh bought a tumbler type milk heater/frother so now I use that.

mydogisanidiott · 21/12/2025 15:13

It’s lovely! It highly calorific! So I have to be careful as I’m a bit of a porker. Drinking calories is easier than eating them.

I used the hotel chocolate sachets or tubs, Starbucks powder, or
cocoa and sugar.

to make it hot, heat the mug and press the button again. Or microwave for 30 seconds. I’ve just had an 85% Ghanaian hot chocolate. Use it at least weekly in the winter and less in summer obviously.

NotMyDayJob · 21/12/2025 15:16

Yes I use mine quite a lot, it’s ideal because it doesn’t get too hot and I have a three year old. I just use any old hot chocolate powder and if you put it in after the milk it works really well

LighthouseLED · 21/12/2025 15:16

I don’t use mine much as I don’t like the texture of the hot chocolate it makes, but it is very easy to clean - squirt of washing up liquid, run the cycle again and then rinse out.

blizymitzy · 21/12/2025 15:18

I’ve literally sat down with my velvetiser Bailey’s hot chocolate and this is the first thread I see !
it is a great little machine and if I want it hotter I pop it in the microwave for 10 seconds
it makes it sooo smooth and creamy
and the slug of Bailey’s definitely helps

EchoedSilence · 21/12/2025 15:18

Used it a couple of times then it got put in the cupboard of gadgets. I should sell it really.

SheilaWilde · 21/12/2025 15:19

I bought the Hotel Chocolate one for my DC about 5 years ago, their interest waned but I use it everyday to make a latte (hot milk and coffee granules) for my journey to work. It’s really easy to clean, just swill it out after use and once or twice a week just put water and tiny bit of washing up liquid in it. It’s my most used kitchen item.

Hello, please can you tell me more about this tumbler type thing?

Drivinghomeforchristmas25 · 21/12/2025 15:20

I have had mine for years and use it at least 2-3 times a week. I find it absolutely perfect temperature wise. Love it.

WestrayWife · 21/12/2025 15:20

DH got me the Hotel Chocolat one for Christmas last year. I love it and it’s definitely well used in the winter months. I love the mocha sachets in particular - excellent topped up with Baileys. Temperature is absolutely fine, and it’s no problem to clean either.

Jellycatspyjamas · 21/12/2025 15:24

My kids like it because it produces hot chocolate at a temperature that they can drink immediately and I don’t worry about them scalding themselves. In saying that the boiling water tap is a much better gadget in my sons eyes, hot ribena literally on tap.

LighthouseLED · 21/12/2025 15:24

TeenToTwenties · 21/12/2025 15:23

Even easier then!

olittlegreene · 21/12/2025 15:24

I got mine last month and have used it every single day, sometimes twice a day. It feels like my five minutes of self love every day (I am pregnant and have a toddler). I think it’s one of my best purchases of 2025. I find the cleaning routine a bit of a faff if you wanted to make more than one at a time and I don’t like that it’s not dishwasher safe but personally I love the hot chocolate. I don’t use the Hotel Chocolat sachets after the initial sachets that come with the Velvetiser. I really love Knoops (on the pricey side but 3 tbsp makes a glorious hot chocolate) and Twinnings is also nice from the Velvetiser. A lot of people like using Whittards which I’ve also tried but Knoops and Twinnings are my regulars personally.

Catinabox21 · 21/12/2025 15:29

I dithered for ages about getting one, but I love mine.

It’s not magic - it won’t ultimately ‘transform’ a poor quality drinking chocolate that just tastes like brown milk regardless of how you make it. But as a gadget they’re quick, totally fuss free and easy to clean. As PP have said, I’d be far easier about my DC using it than say making a cup of tea.
