Over inappropriate behaviour towards women. Anyone surprised?

What worries me is that he doesn;t even try to hide it. He is simply vile. And no one seems to care. He is an absolutely shit writer. So how come his books gained so much traction when other famous comedians - like Charlie Higson - who really can write, did okay but not stellar sales. Someone was really plugging him. Blocking other authors from getting shelf space. I can't help wondering if he had some good dirt on people very high up in publishing. It is a loathesome business.

Yes I have never understood why David Walliams books have gained so much traction - I don’t feel he’s a hugely famous name (though I’ve never watched BGT so maybe I’ve missed a lot of his profile?) , and his books seem to be widely derided.

I think either as you say he has friends in high places that have given him more clout to get his work promoted.

Or maybe getting Quentin Blake on board as an illustrator gave him to link to Dahl that gave his books a bit of added credibility?

Jugendstiel · 20/12/2025 09:29

I sincerely hope that every single person he has ever harassed brings a suit against him so he ends up penniless and friendless where he should be.

Alittlefrustrated · 20/12/2025 09:30

He's being his usual horrible self in that Pet Shop Boys link. Right at the front for exposure and taking the mick big style. I think he's a huge homophobe.

Another "David" by any chance? I know of 2 .

If it's DJ there have been rumours for years so I'm not sure it would be a surprise!

Carandache18 · 19/12/2025 17:47

Probably at least half a dozen ghost writers now out of a job.

Again, longing after that laughing emoji reaction.

Or maybe they all refused to work with him any more.

They were very heavily publicised/promoted
I always assumed they were mainly bought by people who didn't read books themselves, to give as gifts.
Certainly the ones bought for our children came from people who meant well but hadn't ever read the book/weren't really knowledgeable about books

What I really struggle with is why schools stocked them and even used them for classroom reading

Coffeeishot · 20/12/2025 09:35

My Dd has Sen and when his books first came out they really got her reading because i think they appeal to young children they are easy to read, I mean he is basically ripping off Raul Dhal isn't he so of course it is going to appeal to kids,

LlynTegid · 20/12/2025 09:43

The publisher would not have taken the decision without evidence, given David Walliams presumably can afford to sue.

Quite.

The denials are always going to happen too.

@justasking111 I have had a guess too and think I know

About time. Why he was invited onto bbc 2 Radio (Claudia) and other prominent tv/radio shows long after the vile misogynist comments he made about a contestant on the X factor, leaked by one of the production team. His books are awful. A temu Roald Dahl. Hateful. I had to tell my 6 year old, ‘if someone, another child, is eating the food off your plate in school, please tell me, they are not greedy; they are desperately hungry, speak to a teacher and tell me’. The man is evidently disturbed. Why does the bbc and tv land continue to promote him? Months on months of going into supermarkets and his hateful nasty toxic children’s books filling shelves top to bottom. I despair. WTF are the BBC, Waitrose etc doing in promoting the likes of him?

I love 'a temu Roald Dahl'.

Perfect.

(And agree with the rest of your post.) I loathed the way he was shoved at us, as if to say: you have no choice. This is who you will buy. This is the brain fodder we will force on your children and you should just be glad they are reading. At the time, I just thought, 'Fuck off. My children can read Joan Aitken who is brilliant and prolific and hasn't dated, with gorgeous, kind, moral male heroes and the best heroines ever.' And they can read Cornelia Funke and Louis Sacher and Charlie Higson and Horowitz and classics like Charlotte's Web and The Silver Sword. And there are loads and loads of barely known children's authors who write brilliant, funny, interesting stories if you hunt about a bit. There is no excuse ever to force shite like that into children's minds or for parents to part with a penny that goes to that creep. He can't even write a single half decent sentence. And all the other authors mentioned here can.

😂 I wish they hadn't removed the laugh response I don't have anything else to say.

That was the Russell Brand routine, too. So women let down their guards.

On a brighter note, another typically sublime Pet Shop Boys song!

As for Walliams, how infuriating that he has been right there in plain sight for around two decades- fame, wealth, getting hired for all sorts, putting decent children’s authors right to the back of the bookshops. And EVERYONE KNEW. It’s so disgusting. Our culture is so messed up.

Call me stupid but i was surprised about rolf harris. Savile no. He was so obviously a vile creep. Was a bit surprised by hugh( huw ? ) edwards as well.

I remember years ago Rolf Harris being interviewed on TV with his wife. Until that day I had always thought he was a lovable character. But his wife came across as so subdued, so unhappy. Whenever I meet a Big Personality man - famous or not - I always check the wife. If she seems down-spirited I assume that behind closed doors he's an absolute shit. Usually turn out to be right. Seen it prove true so many times.

Daygloboo · 20/12/2025 00:45

Ive said this before on here. A lot of TV types are awful. I used to know socially a very well known actor who is really loved and has a public profile as a terrific guy. Im making no suggestion of anything sexually creepy or dangerous. It wasnt anything like that. But just that he was absolutely horrible in real life and not remotely like his public self. Im not going to.name him but he' s sneery and sarky and totally 2 faced, and only interested in people who can do something for his career. But you'd think he was amazing from his TV work and appearances. Everybody loves him. You just cant tell what someone's really like in the entertainment industry!!

Are his initials DT?

Yes I recall a couple of recent articles in the DM, I’ve read previously that when there is something big brewing about somebody well known but they cannot report any details, they run a few articles hinting/suggesting but never coming right out with it!

The DM are always reliable for some pre story breadcrumbing.

There was a big hullabaloo a few years ago because a famous TV presenter had "apparently" fathered a child during a ons when they were supposedly happily married. TV person took out an injunction to prevent them being named, so for a week or so afterwards every time the DM had an article about it they put a sperate, innocuous one about said telly person underneath.

Oh RB loves jesus like nobody has ever loved jesus before !

Yes because Jesus is his lookie-likey and reminds Russell of his most handsome self.

Imdunfer · 20/12/2025 08:39

She was 18 when they met and married and last I read she is still very fond of him, spends time with him, and credits him for giving her huge support at a time when she needed it. There are such thing as mutually beneficial relationships between people who are a couple of decades apart in age.

Apologies. She was 15 when her career was launched, 17 when they met, 18 when they married.

Sorry I don't buy it. Would you be happy with your 17 year old DD dating a man over 30?

And it's not just any man. This is a man with huge power and influence in her industry.

I so agree with this. I have a male neighbour who all the local women fawn over. He's very into his food, they think he's marvellous and make him food all the time from his home country. He is always angry and gives off an extremely nasty vibe to me. His wife barely speaks and visibly cowers in his presence. He tells people his wife is a miserable, boring witch and they actually feel sorry for him, saying what an awful life he must have with her. I see a terrified woman. It's so bloody sad, and so telling.

Sorry for the derail.

I don't think it is a derail. We should be aware of how monsters move among us so we can refuse to enable them.

Alittlefrustrated · 20/12/2025 10:42

Poor HB was actually a case of mistaken identity. He does not have a super - injunction and is not known for using sex workers.

caramac04 · 20/12/2025 10:42

The more I think about this the more angry I get. Especially being alone with young fans who had to sign a non disclosure thing.
What the actual hell??? I’m a bit arsey around safeguarding and there is no way I would allow my kids or grandkids to be alone with an unknown male. Or female in that circumstance.
Disappointed child? Maybe but I would explain in an appropriate way why I insisted on being present or the meet would not happen.
I actually want to punch the nasty creep which isn’t a good example to anyone. I do hope he cops for karmic justice though.
I hated Little Britain and Wally’s ‘antics’ on BGT, all in the name of comedy. I wasn’t laughing and not the only one.

Greenwitchart · 20/12/2025 10:52

The cover-ups is what always makes me so angry. There had been rumours about him for years yet again TV companies, publishers and media just turned a blind eye or it seems in case of his former publisher just paid off staff after complains.

It is always the same story: famous/wealthy predators thrive because the money they bring in is more important than the people they abuse.
