“After careful consideration, and under the leadership of its new CEO, HarperCollins UK has decided not to publish any new titles by David Walliams. ”

Thought it was a strange press release - ‘ … under the leadership of its new CEO’ - made me think that other people in the company didn’t agree with the decision (because of revenue?). I guessed correctly, that the new UK CEO was female ! It’s throwing her under the bus and she obviously hasn’t got the full support of everyone. Wonder if her days are numbered (she only officially started in October).

I read that as being Walliams and previous MD went under the bus together as a damage limitation exercise. For him not to be involved in the investigation suggests it's pretty clear cut to me, and that he knew it was coming hence all the 'poor me' placed stories.

CalzoneOnLegs · 20/12/2025 06:16

@rainbow231 yes, I didn’t think of it like that, turning something natural into something sinister. IIRC it was a quite respected actress playing the Mother too.

CalzoneOnLegs · 19/12/2025 18:28

Quite rightly I imagine he’d want to distance himself from it

When you are friends with a fiend, what does that make you

Yukb · 20/12/2025 06:18
Thats Good Donald Glover GIF

Finally. It’s unbelievable he was ever given a children’s book deal or fame at all. Incredibly unfunny, punches down constantly and the amount of rumours and accusations against him for years looks like a communist parade, he’s a walking red flag

If you scroll to 3:12 in this video of the pet shop boys on top of the pops in 1994 you will see David Williams camping it up big style well before he was famous, and at a time when you just didn’t do that unless you were actually gay.

i think he’s either bisexual or so far in the closet he has to treat women as total sex objects to try and keep up the pretence

sorry, link:

That was the Russell Brand routine, too. So women let down their guards.

Thought it might be aimed at guys

Yes Ivery much so - I read that press release as the new CEO taking credit for dropping Walliams, not her being thrown under the bus. In my experience the CEO would have approved the statement before it was issued, you don’t just have the media team going rogue.

OvernightBloats · 20/12/2025 07:19

David Walliams called his new puppy Eric which was a clear dig at Simon Cowell who has a son named Eric. This was apparently after they had a fall-out and Walliams found a way to humiliate Cowell by doing this.

Yet another example of his puerile and humiliating humour and nastiness. Horrible creep!

Friendlyfart · 20/12/2025 07:21

I will admit I enjoyed Little Britain and come fly with me, so sue me! It was 15-20 years ago and we lived in different times, it wouldn’t be commissioned now.
I even bought the first few DW books for DC who were in primary school.

However, now I can see that DW is a creep - maybe because he’s older and should know better and obviously there have now been allegations which need to be investigated. I didn’t like his fawning over Simon on BGT. He was on The Wheel recently and I was surprised as I thought he was persona non grata now.

I hope he is properly investigated now and if the claims hold up, which they probably will, he can face whatever punishment he’s due.

Dahl had some problematic views and some of his stories have dated. But he was a masterful storyteller and he captured my imagination as a child like few other authors. His stories general have a strong moral core and there are some all-time great female protagonists like Matilda.

I’ve admittedly not spent much time with Walliams work but what I have read is just lame, puerile nonsense that complete misses what makes Dahl’s books still treasured.

Some problematic views? He was a Nazi-sympathiser! Come on now…
Yes his books are classics, but also contain some vile characters. His estate recently apologised on his behalf.

Did anyone see the sky news report just now?

Poor reporter corpsed on tv and said 'fuck it, I'll start again'.

ETA- I think it was sky. I am flicking through 3 news channels at the same time

Checknotmymate · 20/12/2025 07:32

I can't believe Chris Evans is still working. Billie piper was 15 and he was over 30. She can't have been the first.

Whatwouldnanado · 20/12/2025 07:38

He was on Lorraine Kelly’s show recently looking v creepy dressed as a snowman. Sure he said something about Little Britain coming back. He tries to associate himself with Elton John.
Thought HB was married with children?

I don’t follow him particularly but isn’t he another “look what I do for charity” types? Truly charitable people don’t advertise it.

He swam the Thames for charity in 2011 and raised over £1 million, it was a big thing and raised lots of money. No publicity would mean less money for charity.

It is no different to Kevin Sinfield (who I have a lot of respect and admiration for) publicising his marathons for MND.

Who did not expect this? It has been known for years.

It was tongue in cheek.

FlyingApple · 20/12/2025 07:40

He has always creeped me out. I doubt anything can come out that will shock me about him.

CardigansOfTheGalaxy · 20/12/2025 08:03

He was really awful on The Wheel, went totally against the spirit of the show and tried to dominate everything, interjecting constantly.

Although equally bad was Tommy Fury who didn't come across at all well.

Coffeeishot · 20/12/2025 08:04

I was reading my local news fb story about it. The comments from men are depressing to say the least, apparently men can't do anything these days without women reporting them ! These comments come from the same men who are shouting about protecting women and children from immigrants 🫤

You really only need to look at his eyes

Yes, there’s something predatory, a bit manic and…it’s difficult to explain, but looks like he’s waiting for an opportunity to do something naughty in full sight.

Bet he'll do a Gregggg Wallace and whine "I'm actually autistic, my hands and dick have minds of their own, you're all persecuting me"

Or a Russell Brand and find Jesus

So a damage limitation exercise, the opposite of how I read it.

If the new CEO is reading this thread, well done to you and your team, and sending love to all those women who have been affected.

And how much did Jimmy Saville raise for charity?

Toomuch2019 · 20/12/2025 08:29

Was hearing stuff about him from a friend 15 years ago so was also not surprised to hear this! Well done Harper Collins for doing the right thing.
