Who would like to anticipate my annual bath with me?

BaileysAndBadedas · 18/12/2025 14:58

Firstly, just to reassure everyone, I do shower and wash regularly throughout the rest of the year! Background is that one of my favourite things used to be (especially after a long outdoor run) reading in a very long and very hot bath. Every December I used to upgrade my own brand/radox type bath stuff to Badedas and drink a glass of Baileys - looked forward to all year.

Long story but I can’t run anymore due to physical disabilities, and not meant to bathe (seizures). So I’m confined to at best, quick showers with DH helping me in and out, washing my hair for me if needed. However. It is December. I am fucking determined to have a bath with Badedas and Lidl Baileys. This will involve squinting at a paperback rather than my Kindle with nice big type, and my drink in a plastic glass, and DH sitting on the toilet (to supervise, not taking a dump or anything obvs) so it’s not quite the same but…

I have put this off so far as have been poorly and my seizures have been really uncontrolled (I actually have two fetching black eyes atm!) I also feel a bit bad for DH having to sit on the toilet for so long but it’s a small bathroom and equipment means we can’t get a comfier chair in there. But I really really want my fucking bath. With my Baileys and my Badedas.

So my plan is to (okay yes I know, this is so fucking sad in a dickhead way, not “sad sad” way) sit outside one day this weekend, probably Sunday, until I am cold then come in and have my hot bath. With my Baileys - I don’t drink alcohol anymore but one glass will be nice. I am very much looking forward to it.

Would anyone like to come and vicariously share my anticipation? (Warning, stuff I plan doesn’t happen 99% of the time so restrain your excitement…)

PS please no lectures or warnings about the risk as I have assessed it and am an adult with capacity and a chaperone, so don’t ruin my bath party, thanks.

I also want to use a luxury sheet mask I got for advent, so debating cutting the eyeholes bigger to avoid my bruises/cut, but unsure if this is a “sad” step too far…

I can relate to this so much, I love a bath and the year I couldn't take one due to chemo was torture. Definitely go for it and enjoy!

Halo09 · 18/12/2025 15:06

I am vicariously anticipating your lovely bath! Also a seizure sufferer, though not nearly as bad as yours. Sink into an amazing fragrant bath with a drink and enjoy that feeling!

BaileysAndBadedas · 18/12/2025 15:07

@namechange0998776554799000 sorry you have been through that. I hope you are enjoying baths again Flowers

Don't add things. It's bath babedas baileys. Sheet mask doesn't scan.

<waits>

I love a bath.

I really hope you get your bath.

I used to drag a beanbag into the bathroom, for bath supervision when the DC were small. Do you have or can you borrow one for DH? They squish into whatever space you have, and are quite comfy.

BaileysAndBadedas · 18/12/2025 15:09

Seizures are shit aren’t they @Halo09. I shall sink (hopefully not right to the bottom much more quickly than expected!) and shall update once The Bath has been had, for your vicarious pleasure.

I don't want to rub it in, but yes I have one twice a week now with a full on face mask, hair mask and bubbles and relish every minute!

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/12/2025 15:12

Very much hoping you get your lovely bath! A very long, very hot bath is also one of my great pleasures and I completely understand the loss you’re feeling of them. Grab your husband a cushion he’ll be alright 🙂

Goandygo · 18/12/2025 15:13

Enjoy !
And don't forget, Post - Bath .....fresh pjs and fresh bedding ❤️

SummerHouse · 18/12/2025 15:14

Sweet Jesus I love everything about this. Your determination. Your pervading humour. Your wise choices of exactly what a good bath is (including the prerequisite of being cold). Your lovely DH (who you thoroughly deserve) who is willing to sit on the toilet life guarding. But most of all, your positivity. This puts everything into perspective for me. I am not crying. At all.

I hope you get your lovely bath and it's all you hope it will be.

Octavia64 · 18/12/2025 15:16

Love me a good bath.

the year I had plaster on my broken ankle for six months was so hard.

enjoy your bath

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 18/12/2025 15:18

Wow, you enjoy yourself op, until you are all prune like 😂
I love my baths, one of lifes great pleasures x

thedogdaysareover51 · 18/12/2025 15:23

I really hope you enjoy your bath OP. I HATE baths-I get bored, too hot (menopausal), feel guilty (WTF) and then think I need to clean the bath out afterwards so can’t be arsed. However this thread has changed my mind! My bath at home is huge and I’m going to have one with lots of bath oils, my kindle or listen to an audiobook and maybe a glass of fizz in your honour OP.

GameOfJones · 18/12/2025 15:24

Your post made me smile so much. I totally get it, I adore a very hot bath....not being able to have a really long and hot bath when I was pregnant was bloody awful.

I hope you get the bath of your dreams on Sunday.

bonesandbooth2025 · 18/12/2025 15:24

Get your PJs on the radiator too and a nice candle

Lakeyloo · 18/12/2025 15:25

I love an annual bath OP ! It's usually on our return from a big festival we go to each year where showering is a bit hit and miss and dust/dried grass ends up everywhere 😬 (and the only time our bath really gets used)
This year however, I had said bath, pulled the plug and the contents of the bath ended up coming through the hallway ceiling 😳Apparently lack of use had caused some seals or something to dry out so I need to use it a bit more often.

I do occasionally, like you, plan a lovely bath.....I imagine myself looking all glamorous, hair piled up, bubbles up to my chin, book, candle, face mask, wine but 10 minutes in I'm a beetroot coloured sweaty mess and need to get out because i feel sick.

I really hope you get to have your lovely bath !

SingingSands · 18/12/2025 15:26

What about music? Fairy lights? Candles?

I've got a winter training session tonight and I'll be thinking of you whilst I'm running. It's been pouring all day here in West Yorks so I'll do the cold and wet bit for you, OP. You do the luxury bit, it sounds as though you deserve it! X

TeaMeBasil · 18/12/2025 15:31

brilliant plan, you enjoy every single minute of that bath!

I hope your DH takes his life guarding seriously and dons the Baywatch red shorts, wears a whistle and every now & then checks you’re not planning to run in the bathroom or dive in the shallow end 😂

TheAutumnCrow · 18/12/2025 15:37

Oh god I so relate to this. I’m in a similar boat and my bathroom has been adapted and risk assessed to the Nth degree, and I had my fab bath this afternoon when DP got in to supervise!

(The bathroom is actually toddler-proofed with all corners and edges covered, and it’s for me not the bairns! I look like I’ve got shark bites on my arm from a previous collapse.)

TiredofLDN · 18/12/2025 15:39

Can your DH pop a cushion on the floor and sit next to you, rather than on the loo, looming over? Might be a bit more relaxing for both of you!

dontmalbeconme · 18/12/2025 15:44

Presumably the risk is that you could slip under if you have a seizure? Would any kind of neck pillow/float help with that (and also possibly comfortable?)

I'd suggest some sounds too (maybe rain sound, or crashing waves) and soft lighting.

Enjoy!

Ponderingwindow · 18/12/2025 15:44

When my tub was broken and repairs delayed by Covid, my mental health suffered.

I very much understand the healing power of a good bath.

Enjoy every second

FadedRed · 18/12/2025 15:45

Enjoy your lovely bath, Baileys.
The only time I have a bath rather than a shower, is if we go skiing and get an en-suite with a bath. There is something quite sublime about getting into a hot bath after a day in the snowy mountains. The warmth gets to all the places that are cold and relieves the achy legs. Bliss.

Ponderingwindow · 18/12/2025 15:45

Oh and most recent kindles are waterproof. You should check your model.

im wildly guessing larger print and not squinting might be better for avoiding triggers.
