Who would like to anticipate my annual bath with me?

BaileysAndBadedas · 18/12/2025 14:58

Firstly, just to reassure everyone, I do shower and wash regularly throughout the rest of the year! Background is that one of my favourite things used to be (especially after a long outdoor run) reading in a very long and very hot bath. Every December I used to upgrade my own brand/radox type bath stuff to Badedas and drink a glass of Baileys - looked forward to all year.

Long story but I can’t run anymore due to physical disabilities, and not meant to bathe (seizures). So I’m confined to at best, quick showers with DH helping me in and out, washing my hair for me if needed. However. It is December. I am fucking determined to have a bath with Badedas and Lidl Baileys. This will involve squinting at a paperback rather than my Kindle with nice big type, and my drink in a plastic glass, and DH sitting on the toilet (to supervise, not taking a dump or anything obvs) so it’s not quite the same but…

I have put this off so far as have been poorly and my seizures have been really uncontrolled (I actually have two fetching black eyes atm!) I also feel a bit bad for DH having to sit on the toilet for so long but it’s a small bathroom and equipment means we can’t get a comfier chair in there. But I really really want my fucking bath. With my Baileys and my Badedas.

So my plan is to (okay yes I know, this is so fucking sad in a dickhead way, not “sad sad” way) sit outside one day this weekend, probably Sunday, until I am cold then come in and have my hot bath. With my Baileys - I don’t drink alcohol anymore but one glass will be nice. I am very much looking forward to it.

Would anyone like to come and vicariously share my anticipation? (Warning, stuff I plan doesn’t happen 99% of the time so restrain your excitement…)

PS please no lectures or warnings about the risk as I have assessed it and am an adult with capacity and a chaperone, so don’t ruin my bath party, thanks.

Sounds bloody amazing OP. I’m excited on your behalf!

Sleepsto5anta · 18/12/2025 15:48

Don't forget something soft for your neck! I had an inflatable neck pillow for the bath but it started to leak air, so now i fold up a hand towel and rest my neck, head on it, very comfy.

I mainly use the bath for the dog, but you've inspired me to have a proper bath myself for Christmas! Definately Baileys and a book, maybe a candle too.

Happyjoe · 18/12/2025 15:51

Enjoy every single bubble and sip of baileys! Bath are just wonderful, soothe away aches and make you feel good.
Tell hubby he's a star too! Enjoy OP.

Londondreamer · 18/12/2025 15:51

OOO! I love a bath. I have a herniated disc and couldn't stand for more then about a minute and a half, so had to resort to a quick sort of swish around flannel job in the shower for about four months. horrendous.

I couldn't have a bath either as I couldn't lie in that position for any length of time.

Now I'm recovering, I can shower normally and have a long bath with Epsom salts twice a week and i'm convinced it's helping me heal. I listen to audio books whilst in there. Heaven .

TheHillIsMine · 18/12/2025 15:54

I hate baths so have a second one and call it mine..

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/12/2025 16:02

I hope you enjoy it. I don't actually like baths all that much but I do very much appreciate looking forward to something (for me it's the day that the tree pollen finishes and after a few months of pushing through against tiredness and illness being 'normal' feels like being superhuman for a couple of days). Don't use a glass for your Baileys, I have a thing about glass in a bathroom anyway and get very annoyed with the DC if they bring one in, but I especially don't want your much anticipate bath to end up with shards and bloodshed.

Bluescissorsbluepen · 18/12/2025 16:06

My friend used to do much the same after a day in the hills and a gin and tonic. One time her gin and tonic fell in the bath and she said it added to the aroma and decided it was better for her muscles. Probably not a good idea with Baileys though. Enjoy your bath.

crumpetswithcheeze · 18/12/2025 16:09

I hardly ever bath, but am looking forward to my first one in a good few years, to hope it eases the bloody haemorrhoid that appeared two days ago 😩

RightHereRightNowish · 18/12/2025 16:10

This is one of the most wonderful threads I’ve read all year. Your positivity, determination and humour shine through. I really hope you get to enjoy your bath.

BaileysAndBadedas · 18/12/2025 16:14

Oh I didn’t expect so many replies, thank you all, and for ideas, and sorrry to people who are/have been bathless. Glad I am also encouraging people to have baths Grin

Yes, definitely fresh bedding and PJs (I have the softest cotton giant T shirt I save for Special Occasions) Music is out sadly if I want to read as can’t multitask, it’s one or the other! Folded towel behind my head is a good call. My kindle is definitely not waterproof sadly but I could get a candle. I’m liking the Baywatch idea, may insist DH wears teeny red shorts and a whistle. Possibly may ask him to run from landing into the bathroom in slow motion before the bath, just for the full effect. He’s so obliging he would probably do it! Sadly cushions and bean bags are out, the room is literally tiny footprint and with the equipment there’s no room (DH is also very tall so hard to fold up!) I am going to secrete away his favourite no lo beer and crisps for a surprise thank you afterwards (don’t imagine he would want to eat/drink sitting on the toilet Grin)

I am really really looking forward to it. Also, for anyone who donates to food banks etc but might not have seen these, Badedas do a 3 in 1 shower gel/shampoo/conditioner which is cheaper than the bath foam, and I like to put some in at this time of year. They are also nice for hospital stays if you’re allowed to shower.

Don’t feel bad for DH. I would happily monitor my husband while he had a nice soak. Just get him a glass for Baileys too lol.

BaileysAndBadedas · 18/12/2025 16:23

Oooh more replies even while I was typing! Haemorrhoid sounds painful, don’t you need cream on it rather than a bath?

Also, I really am not usually a cheerful positive person, I just try and put a brave face on esp for my family. It’s been a terrible year and I feel awful especially for DH who is very stressed and worried. That’s a whole different thread, I am trying to look after him as well as forcing him to sit in tiny shorts with a whistle on the toilet staring at me luxuriate in bubbles! I have actually bought him a massaging relaxer thingy for Christmas so it would be a good excuse to give it to him early if his back is uncomfortable on the toilet. I could give him a proper massage, that would be nice. And we can both lie in the clean bedding already covered in cat hair three seconds after it’s put on the bed. Actually I am going to make this an afternoon/evening for both of us now. I’m glad I started this thread!

Oh and I volunteer at the food bank and would agree that we always have service users after shower gel/ shampoo/ conditioner and especially shaving foam and razors (for job interviews!).

Oh my, ENJOY! Fellow seizure sufferer here and I miss a bath SO MUCH. I hope you have the loveliest one - run it extra deep for me. I loved being right up to my neck in bubble (also loved upgrading to Badadas for a treat!)

So envious right now, but really excited for you!

SauronsArsehole · 18/12/2025 16:46

Do you have an extra pair of hands on standby DH can call if the worst happens?

also make it hilarious get a stupidly spicy book and get your DH to read it. Up the awkwardness and hilarity factor by 1000

AmarylIis · 18/12/2025 16:48

Put your kindle in a freezer/sandwich bag, it’s what I used to do 😁

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 18/12/2025 16:49

I would have epsom salts in the bath... great for aches and pains (and bubble bath gives me thrush!)
And I would have a glass of cold bubbly.
Hair mask and face mask
Also, I put a warm flannel with olbas oil on my chest...

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/12/2025 16:50

Many scented candles and a rainforest soundtrack.

Enjoy!

Dliplop · 18/12/2025 16:51

Luckily my seizures are well under cintrol, but I think even at my worst I was still having a bath with supervision - after my divorce my mum would sit by the open door and I’d chat to her. My dh is great about this kind of thing and I hope yours will start helping you do this more often. You really deserve it! And stress management is so important for seizures!

Chiaseedling · 18/12/2025 17:06

I will join you! Also have epilepsy and not allowed baths but recently I really wanted one so DH obliged and sat on the toilet next to me.

Wasn’t quite the same but it was still nice.

CMOTDibbler · 18/12/2025 17:06

I recommend some bath snacks too. For an all out bath I like Pringles and some Terrys chocolate orange
I hope you have a lovely and uneventful bath

MrsChristmasHasResigned · 18/12/2025 17:26

I got rid of my bath this year in favour of a luxury walk in shower, but just found myself wanting one the other day...... I will be there with you in spirit, cheering you on, and may use the bath when you are done!

BaileysAndBadedas · 18/12/2025 17:34

Sorry there are so many fellow seizure sufferers here, it’s really shit isn’t it. DH would happily sit on the toilet every day to supervise me having a bath, but it wouldn’t be a “treat” then plus it’s just too much risk atm, i dont like upping the odds! DH could definitely deal with me if I had a seizure, he lifts weights and I’m underweight and short so easy to lug about even as a soaking wet dead weight! The baths won’t make a difference to seizures as in stress triggers etc as there is a physical reason for them.
i will swerve the snacks as I just know I’d drop them in the bath, clumsiness risk is equal, even higher to seizure risk Smile. This thread is making me tired, in a nice way, with all the talk of relaxing music and so on…(so excuse spag errors) I don’t know if other people with seizures are also very big on “comfort” and “routines” stuff but for me they are hugely important, I like being able to put fairy lights etc this time of year and have relaxing music/sounds for a bedtime routine like posters have mentioned. Maybe it’s because we spend so much time uncomfortable (like with two black eyes!) and can’t stick to plans so like to feel in control when we can? Or we are just fucking knackered Grin It’s nice to have something to look forward to. I just wish the bath was bigger so DH could get in too, that would be lovely but impossible!

I will share my bath with you all virtually when I’ve had it so everyone can share the bliss…
