I need some ideas for Christmas for a gym loving 22yr old please.

I have some gym shark items but is there anything else you take to make your experience easier / better / special.

Many thanks

Gloves to help grip the equipment. I find it better to wear gym gloves

Chazbots · 17/12/2025 20:36

No gloves, callous remover.

Very nice water bottle?

I wear gloves too, much easier when handling big dumbbells.

It very much depends on what the 22-year-old’s already got.

More of everything lol.
I always think I have enough socks, bobbles, towels etc but always run out.
A wash bag?

whyyousohollyjolly · 17/12/2025 20:41

Decent headphones?

ThePoshUns · 17/12/2025 20:44

My son has little sweat towels that look like chamois, I’ll see if I can google

YelramBob · 17/12/2025 20:53

I love gloves but apparently they're referred to as 'bitch mittens' by gym snobs 😳😅

Gym accessories are very particular to the user so you need to find out what she does at the gym. Eg my water bottle has to be 750ml so I wouldn't use a smaller one. I use a booty band but it's an extra strong one so wouldn't use a regular one.

I wear shorts and a vest to work out in so would never wear leggings and a t shirt as I'd spontaneously combust 🥵

Is she a cardio or weights girl? What she does will determine what clothing and accessories she wants.

Ha. I work out in my old running kit from Sports Direct so I suspect gym snobs would consider me beyond the pale anyway.

I had no idea gloves were looked down on until some random post came up on my FB page. I love my gloves, means I can lift heavier weights 💪

Exactly. I have small hands so the bars on the bigger dumbbells were breaking through the skin between my index fingers & thumbs. Gloves make all the difference.

You enjoy your bitch mittens 😅

Poorly3yrold · 17/12/2025 21:40

Personalised gym towel with zippable pocket for keys/phones. Or two so you've got one when one is in the wash 🤣

(I keep hoping someone will buy me that!)

You too! 😆

Of course the OP hasn’t mentioned the sex of this gym bunny, so he might be a bloke with big hands & not have the same problem.

ChocoChocoLatte · 17/12/2025 21:48

lol @EmpressaurusKittythere’s one of each. For DD and her partner.

i have no idea what they do - are circuits a thing?!? 😳

I’m maybe too late for a personalised towel but will look.

thanks for all the great ideas.

I love a good gym set. Adanola or ASOS does some nice dupes.
I don’t scrimp on trainers and will always wear the type for the exercise I’m doing. Ie weight lifting ones (as that’s the thing I do in the gym) I see people wearing running trainers or even adidas sambas for bodypump for example and just cringe at how uncomfortable and unsupportive that must be!

Marble10 · 17/12/2025 21:50

Maybe a good roller , nice yoga mat , or some indoor resistance bands or ankle weights to add to the work out.

I run and do Bodypump, I wear running road shoes to both and they're absolutely fine, no 'cringing' required .

Loving the 'bitch mittens'!

As you can check the clothes, you could buy the ones they wear in other colours - I have a favourite top and I've bought several version of the same.
A zip pocket gym towel, even if not personalised, would bring me joy. Also new lifting straps and ankle straps if they are into weights (I prefer my own to the common ones at the gym). A nicer new version of the preferred water bottle?

Are they into shakes, smoothies and supplements? New shaker/blender?

Yes you need to find out what they do at the gym, it's a minefield out there!

Last year my brother bought me a top for running but it was completely wrong and I didn't have the heart to tell him 😭

lemonraspberry · 17/12/2025 22:13

Try bimble & bolt for socks (gym) - can never have enough. Also do nice racer tops as well.

QueenMummyTheFirst · 17/12/2025 22:16

I don't understand why gloves are looked down on - why don't people like them? I wear gloves to lift weights sometimes - usually when it's really cold as my gym has no heating and the metal gets freezing. Mine are actually just fingerless cycling gloves, which I now realise probably horrify the other people in the gym!

QueenMummyTheFirst · 17/12/2025 22:18

Sorry - back to the thread!
Is there a particular shop they like? What about a voucher, so they can decide exactly what suits them? Or for something more frivolous and fun, I quite like the little workout dice that tell you how many reps/ what exercise to do. Or headbands are always useful for me, and always going missing!

Helpwithdivorce · 17/12/2025 22:22

Don’t get gloves. It’s very personal preference and most people think they are not for real lifters.
The personalised gym towel with pocket sounds amazing. I want one

horseplay12 · 17/12/2025 22:25

Wireless Bluetooth headphones and a decent water bottle is on my Christmas list this year.
I’ve bought my niece some gym shark leggings.
