I need some ideas for Christmas for a gym loving 22yr old please.

I have some gym shark items but is there anything else you take to make your experience easier / better / special.

Many thanks

I would second wireless headphones or earphones (depending on preference - I hate headphones but others refuse to use anything else!); lifting straps is a good idea too. Maybe I'm boring but I would be very pleased with a nice duffle bag (if I hadn't gifted myself one already 😁).

plsdontlookatme · 17/12/2025 22:31

This is ancillary but what is wrong with wearing Sambas for weights? They're so flat I find them pretty ideal!

twilightcafe · 17/12/2025 22:31

Decent wireless headphones or earbuds.

@horseplaysome gymshark gear was purchased in the Black Friday sale so glad to hear it - thank you.

She bought herself headphones with her Christmas bonus last year so that’s done.

she has a shaky bottle with the ball thingy for her protein shakes

is a fitness journal naff?

I love gloves but apparently they're referred to as 'bitch mittens' by gym snobs 😳😅

Gym accessories are very particular to the user so you need to find out what she does at the gym. Eg my water bottle has to be 750ml so I wouldn't use a smaller one. I use a booty band but it's an extra strong one so wouldn't use a regular one.

I wear shorts and a vest to work out in so would never wear leggings and a t shirt as I'd spontaneously combust 🥵

Is she a cardio or weights girl? What she does will determine what clothing and accessories she wants.

Ok so I really want to know what a ‘booty band’ is but also don’t want to google in case something with the same sort of name but that isn’t gym equipment comes up!

would she use one of those bottles that contains liquid chalk?

YelramBob · 17/12/2025 22:50

I think most young 'uns track their fitness with an app?

You'd think buying gym stuff would be easy but nope 🫤

BitOutOfPractice · 17/12/2025 23:11

How about a massage gun?

Id also welcome socks. You can never have too many gym socks.

More than 1 shakey bottle per person needed, so you have one while the other is in the wash!

Or they might like a bullet blender like a Ninja, and grab a matching takeaway cup each as an accessory? Protein shakes are much smoother and nicer when they're properly blended rather than shaken.

On that note, maybe a gift voucher for wherever they buy their supplements. They're expensive.

This thread is making me increasingly tempted to change my username to FakeLifter 🤣.

Not giving up on my gloves though.

I don't know, I go to the gym three times a week, but don't use much gear. One water bottle, three gym outfits, one set of gloves. All very basic too. That's it.

gannett · 18/12/2025 08:08

Exercise gear is all so personal, from the fit to the material to the cut.

I was also going to suggest headphones - I'm a runner and the Jabra Elite 8 Actives are brilliant. But if she has those... I think the two accessories that were most life-changing for me were a) an armband for my phone (you can get belts too), and b) sweatbands - Buff and Treadbands do good, stylish ones.

kittykarate · 18/12/2025 09:27

I have a runners belt which is perfectly sized for my asthma inhaler, phone and keys. I get really peevish when I can't find it and have to put things in my pockets.

HeidiLite · 18/12/2025 10:08

I agree it's very personal, one person's most prised gym accessory is a waste for someone else. Ninja may be a good idea if they don't have a blender, or have an inferior version.

As you can check what gear your DD has, a new and upgraded version of those items she has previously chosen herself should be a relatively safe bet. I'd love the newer model of my favourite sneakers, new Garmin watch or a new gymbag in the same style I already use. Or a voucher for personal trainer - even though I'm a very seasoned gym goer.

KilliMonjaro · 18/12/2025 10:21

Maybe a “protein gains” cookbook for Gym Bro types?

KilliMonjaro · 18/12/2025 10:21

Apple watch?

JustMyView13 · 18/12/2025 10:59

Lifting straps are a safe option. Pop that into Amazon & they’ll think this was pretty thoughtful.
You could get a lifting belt too, but I don’t personally get on with those.
Bar Bell clips. Depending on what gym they go to, finding those can be like getting hold of rocking horse shit. (I go to a budget gym though).
Do they take supplements? Creatine, pre workout? Anything like this might be nice.

JustMyView13 · 18/12/2025 11:01

Also, a yoga block & some bands for stretching. If they’re not stretching as part of their routine, they should be.
Also, massage Balls & a foam roller to aid recovery.

I don’t know, a quick Google suggests that lifting straps can be controversial too. Although I don’t know if they make someone a ‘fake lifter’ like my bitch mittens.

Nahhh common. I’m not using chalk on a bar bell, and if it helps you go up a weight, who cares what anyone thinks. We’re competing with ourselves! 🙃

ParmaVioletTea · 18/12/2025 17:41

I don't wear gloves - I want the calluses. But I do use chalk - a bottle or two of liquid chalk would be far better than gloves if she lifts weights (real ones, not cardio bunny or pump weights).

Ineffable23 · 18/12/2025 17:51

I cannot comprehend why not wanting calluses (presumably?) or your hands to hurt would be a problem for people weight lifting? Surely the aim is to be limited by your muscles not your hands?

If they also do a decent amount of stretching they might find a small yoga towel helpful. It gives me much better grip on the matt. If they dont currently have a stretch regime, it's the sort of thing that might be helpful to them (my heavy lifting friend found their recovery improved massively once they had an effective routine) so it still might work? I got mine from Yoga Design Lab because they were such fun colours. Or something else to help with stretching?

Greencircle · 18/12/2025 17:55

Insulated protein shaker, set of trigger point release balls or a foam roller?
