but what about the men?

Ah.

LlttledrummergirI · 18/12/2025 20:42

I was in secondary school with David Carrick. She can fuck right off.

but what about the men?

Yep. I made it clear to him that, yes, men's violence against men is an issue but this isn't about that. I gave him some simple stats but I think he'd already glazed over. 😖

Notonthestairs · 19/12/2025 08:23

PickAChew · 18/12/2025 18:20

WTF?

A look at any local rag will reveal a plethora of white, British male sex offenders and they're just the ones who are successfully prosecuted.

Tories cut police numbers by 21,000 between 2010-2016 and then backfilled with less experienced officers. Funding was cut by 20%. They ended their tenure with fewer senior full time officers.

Doesnt Badenoch remember May’s speech to the police federation?
Short memories.

Lowest November borrowing for four years but look at the spin in the headline.

Government borrowing higher than expected in November https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0ed28qlz89o

Blurred images of commuters walking in front of the Houses of Parliament

Government borrowing higher than expected in November

Borrowing - the difference between public spending and tax income - was £11.7bn last month.

Paul Marshall - I’m assuming the same Paul Marshall that owns GB News & the Spectator - in the FT today suggesting that it’s not Brexit that’s the problem, it’s the implementation 🙄 😂

He accepts that there has been increased trade friction but implies this could have been mitigated but without any detail as to how that would have been possible. Desperate to turn this country in to a data centre and crapto currency centre.
Farage as Marshall’s employee will sing from the same hymn sheet.

The overall message - let the Brexiteer millionaires have another go at it. They know best.

The Brexit implementation fiasco

It is not too late to reverse bad policy but that requires good governance

They mean they want a second go ? Until they get the answer they like ?

SerendipityJane · 19/12/2025 10:21

It is interesting that - as predicted - Brexit is still gumming up the work of government 6 years on with no end in sight.

Just briefly giving the ghastly Priti Patel more attention than warranted when is this bollocks about "the will of the people" regarding what will be a decade old vote in 2026 finally die off ?

Here's an idea for Starmer & Co. to float (although they could cynically have no intention of actually doing it). Legislate for a referendum to rejoin EU in 2030 (for example). It can be on the stature books as a nice present for the next government to deal with. And totally destroy any debate over anything else for 4 years.

Yes, they want a second go at it. It’s absolutely not a US inspired grift. Deregulate and bring on the fracking. BeLeave.

I do like that idea Serendipity.

Rejoining in increments is every Brexiteers worst nightmare. Because it's much harder to paint (for example) Erasmus as anything other than good when you have screens and screens of stories about British young adults cheering it on as good for them, bearing in mind these will be the people needed to win an election in 2028-9.

SerendipityJane · 19/12/2025 12:17

This screamed at me:

Here’s an example of the obstacles, reported in Farmers Weekly. Four refrigerated lorries carrying £650,000 worth of Scottish lamb to Europe were stopped at Calais; the meat was rejected by French inspectors despite being stamped as fit for consumption by the UK’s Food Standards Agency. Worse still, the lorries were not allowed to return, either. “They hold all the power. We’re completely helpless,” said West Scottish Lamb. As the meat neared its viable time limit, they said that standoff was “crippling our business”, adding: “The UK government has effectively handed the French authorities the power to control our goods.” Yes, that’s what the disastrous Brexit deal did. They can reject our exports, now we have given up any say. It was sorted last week, at the last minute. Though not accepted into the EU, the meat was finally allowed to return to the UK, after what Farmers Weekly says was a three-week standoff.

.With the caveat that my upbringing was in the shadow of a DF who did everything he could to get away from farming, and with the additional caveat that I have immense respect for farmers (because it's not a job I could do, and it is pretty essential to our modern way of life) I am not sure if there has ever been a time in my life when farmers weren't upset over something.

I suspect were DF alive now, he'd mutter something about never being happy and therefore there is little point in trying.

Regarding the whiny quote I posted ... I haven't forgotten (a) the ENORMOUS billboards in fields next to motorways plugging Leave, and how it was farming that was supposed to spearhead project Sunlit Uplands.

Exactly @SerendipityJane .
I saw so many leave billboards in the rural area where I used to live.
NF and BJ did such a number on people re Brexit, in my opinion.
BBC still reporting with their bias twist.
Anyone see Charlie this morning banging on about brussel sprouts price rises?

The wording vaguely reminds me of some graffiti in a Uni bar circa 1983 ...

"America is a great place. They have Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Stevie Wonder. Here in Britain we have Margaret Thatcher, No Cash, No Hope, And No Fucking Wonder".

SerendipityJane · 19/12/2025 17:31

Looks like a Russian attack on Europe is in the pipeline, as Putin has just denied it (the same way he denied an attack on Ukraine was planned in late 2021).

Where will your safe space be ?

Be nice to put all my mental planning from the 80s into action.

placemats · 19/12/2025 17:34

The question is where's the safe place for those living in Russia.

My safe place is my home.

What happened to the MN Christmas emojis?

Is it not between the mattress and the wall? Or am I misremembering the safety films from my childhood?
