And more importantly, will it feature yorkshire puddings?
We are having a rib of beef, so YPs will definitely feature.
Work colleagues are currently having a debate whether YPs should be a part of a traditional turkey Christmas roast or not.
(My take is have what you want!)

Turkey crown with bacon
Maybe also a small ham (?) maybe a precooked one as not much space in my oven.
Yorkshires (probably will use the frozen ones though my family prefers home made. But they always come out flat for me?!)
Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Pig in blankets
Fine green beans
Broccoli and carrots
Two types of stuffing (usually m&s or Waitrose)
Bread sauce from a packet
Cranberry sauce. (Used to do home made but probably won't bother this year)
Gravy (with meat juices, wine and a little bisto)
My family like cauliflower cheese but I hate it so they're not getting it!

Don't know about pudding. I hate Xmas pudding so not that. Usually don't actually have one!

henlake7 · 08/12/2025 15:35

I would always put yorkies on mine.
This year I cant be arsed with all that washing up for a posh roast so Im just going to graze on nibbles the whole holiday!

BellaBal · 08/12/2025 15:41

No it is not traditional to have YP! But who cares if you like them?!

We are having:

smoked salmon or vegan starter

Turkey
pigs in blankets
vegan sausage wreath
vegan and turkey gravy
roast potatoes
boiled potatoes (because I’m the weirdo who doesn’t liked roasties!)
carrots, parsnips and sprouts
red cabbage
cranberry sauce (not home made)

chocolate dessert; or vegan Christmas pudding and non-dairy sauce

I did that last year - by the time I’d catered to my various family members begging me to make various things it ended up being more effort than a roast! This year I’m roasting.

GameOfJones · 08/12/2025 15:47

Yorkshires are one of our favourite things so if we are cooking a roast, there's a Yorkshire pudding on it!

Our Christmas Day menu is:

Breakfast of smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels with Bucks Fizz.

Christmas dinner will be turkey, stuffing, roast potatoes, honey roast carrots and parsnips, sprouts, yorkshire pudding, pigs in blankets, cranberry sauce and gravy.

Christmas pudding with custard for afters.

Nibbles in the evening of turkey sandwiches, cheese and crackers, sausage rolls, chocolate etc if anyone wants them.

Oneearringlost · 08/12/2025 15:49

Breakfast:
Bacon muffins. Fruits/yoghurt/granola/smoked salmon

Lunch:
No starter
Turkey, ( butcher to separate crown from legs so I don't end up over-cooking parts of it)
Red cabbage ( delia's recipe, already done, in the freezer).
Sprouts
Carrots
Homemade pigs in blankets ( done, in the freezer).
Stuffing: ( waiting for Jamie's Cook-ahead Christmas, tonight on Channel 4 at 8pm).
Roast potatoes and mashed potatoes.
Shop-bought Yorkshires, ( I know!).
Bread sauce ( from a packet, as only DH likes it, and he's happy with packet).
Redcurrant jelly ( prefer it to Cranberry).
Gravy ( already made from roasted chicken wings, splash of Madeira wine) in the freezer.

Pudding:
No one likes Christmas Pudding, so:

Either fresh citrus cheesecake or passion fruit and mango trifle, ( or both).

Evening:
Gammon/ham
Coleslaw
Baked potatoes

TeaRoseTallulah · 08/12/2025 15:49

Leg of lamb
Roast potatoes
Carrots, cabbage, peas broccoli, roast parsnips, red cabbage
Yorkshire puddings
Gravy

Xmas pudding
Mince pies
Trifle

mamalovebird · 08/12/2025 15:57

I'm doing a turkey crown and slow cooked beef brisket so will definitely have my own yorkshire puddings with it. But even without the beef, I'd likely do yorkies as we all like them.
All other usual sides apply; roasties, pigs in blankets, parsnips, sprouts, mashed carrot & neep, sage & onion stuffing, gravy, homemade cranberry sauce (always make it a few days before).

We never have a starter though. Dessert will either be some sort of chocolate pudding or Christmas pudding - both will be on offer with creams & sauces.

Cheese, meats and chutneys in front of the telly in the evening.

MaloryJones · 08/12/2025 15:57

Prawn Cocktail

Roast Lamb
Roast Potatoes
Stuffing Balls
Parsnips
Peas
Sweetcorn for DS(s)
Gravy and Mint Sauce

Later I will warm up some mince pies and hopefully have purchased Baileys squirt cream to have with them

Later still, usually when a soap begins, I will have a lamb sandwich .
I usually have a turkey crown but we all fancied lamb this year

landlordhell · 08/12/2025 15:58

Starter will be canapés with champagne but not at the table.
Turkey, roast potatoes, stuffing, roast parsnips, spiced red cabbage, Brussel sprouts, bread sauce and cranberry sauce.
No I only have Yorkshire puds with roast beef.

Dessert will be tiramisu

BrieAndChilli · 08/12/2025 16:04

  • Roast potatoes, parsnips and carrots
  • Cauliflower cheese
  • Mashed swede

mbosnz · 08/12/2025 16:05

Eggs royal for breakfast, with mimosas (non alcoholic for me). Dinner will be roast chicken with Mum's special stuffing, and gravy, creamy garlic mashed potatoes, roast kumara (sweet potato), parsnip and pumpkin, with braised red cabbage, peas, carrots, beans and asparagus.

Followed by a trio of desserts, which will almost certainly feature a chocolate mousse, creme brulee and whatever wins for the wildcard after much robust debate!

Iliketulips · 08/12/2025 16:11

Haven't overly thought about it and think it'll be just two of us in the morning, so DH cereal and I'll have natural yogurt, berries & nuts - same as usual. If our guests come the day before, I'll add crossiants, museli, toast as they all like and simple.

More than half are pescaritarian, the others flexible so:

Salmon
Hollandaise sauce
Guess it'll be the usual roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, sproats, maybe some stuffing.

None of us have got big appetites and two of us won't have pudding/a dessert. They'll be Xmas Pudd and another who has asked for a Yule log sooner rather than later on the day instead of Xmas Pudd.

I previously asked for comments on Xmas Day tea, but many weren't impressed. However, it's sausage rolls, cheeses, pickles, crusty granary baguettes, hummus, veggie sticks, crisps, nuts and a vegetarian anti-pasti - I had the comment that should be before, but funnily enough four have asked for it! Mince pies, Yule log and clementines (sounds silly, but someone will eat).

MamaBobo · 08/12/2025 16:14

DH and I love Turkey but a some years ago the family decided they didn’t so we switched to fillet steak. There’s never more than 6 of us so it’s do-able. They still want the trimmings though! Over the day we’ll be having…

Puff Pastry Pesto Christmas Tree
Parma Ham & Melon
served with Champagne while opening gifts when family arrive

Fish Soup w Croutons & Rouille

Fillet Steak
Sage & Onion Stuffing
Chipolatas/Kilted Sausages
Roast Potatoes
Sprouts
Carrots
Mushroom, Cream and Brandy Sauce

I’ll probably do a selection of homemade mini desserts, cheesecake, chocolate mousse, St Clement’s jelly in little glasses. No Christmas pudding as I’m the only one who likes it.

In the evening we’ll have filled rolls with leftover stuffing & chipolatas or tinned salmon (an old family tradition), mince pies, stollen and the leftover desserts to pick at.

gogomomo2 · 08/12/2025 16:16

Turkey, nut roast, roast potatoes (vegan ones alas for ease), stuffing with whole cranberries, roasted winter veg, Brussels, mashed swede, red cabbage, cauliflower with separate cheese sauce on account of aforementioned vegans. Gravy, all vegan for ease but I’m a bisto fan anyway. No yorkshire puds unless I buy a pack of frozen, I don’t like them

mumonthehill · 08/12/2025 16:16

Breakfast is pastries then nibbles like mini sausage rolls, prawn things with bubbly. Rib of beef, YP, gingerbread stuffing, sage stuffing, pigs in blankets, red cabbage, parsnips, potatoes, peas, sprouts with chestnuts, bread sauce, gravy, damson cheese, horseradish. Then loads of cheese and chocolate!

With that lot I’d expect a large donation to the Christmas dinner!

SwankyPants · 08/12/2025 16:31

Breakfast is usually chocolate.
No starters.
Quorn roast and another veggie main.
Roast pots, honey roast parsnips, carrot and swede crush, marrowfat peas, broccoli, fine green beans, cabbage, carrots, broccoli cheese, cauliflower cheese, stuffing, and lots of Yorkshire puddings.
Nothing for afters as were all stuffed, but I usually get something chocolatey and some icecream just in case.
Then evening picky bits if anyone wants anything.

Oneearringlost · 08/12/2025 16:34

What is "Mum's special stuffing" @mbosnz? Or is it a secret?

Clefable · 08/12/2025 16:36

Nowhere near as exciting as many MN feasts but we are traditionalists at heart.

Turkey, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, honeyed parsnips, carrots, various other veg. Stuffing and sausage meat. No sprouts. Gravy. Cranberry sauce

Less traditional concessions: Yorkshire puddings for DH and DD2 and white pudding for me and DD2.

And a Yule Log for after.

Oh and breakfast is always Santa pancakes. Pancakes with strawberries to make a Santa hat and sqooshy cream to make a beard. Blueberries for eyes and nose.

HansHolbein · 08/12/2025 16:49
