What's your Christmas day menu?

And more importantly, will it feature yorkshire puddings?
We are having a rib of beef, so YPs will definitely feature.
Work colleagues are currently having a debate whether YPs should be a part of a traditional turkey Christmas roast or not.
(My take is have what you want!)

A sandwich 🥪 crisp just junk as usual.
Maybe a takeaway.
Don't know yet.

SnowyVillage · 09/12/2025 14:17

Turkey & Gammon
Pigs in blankets, sage & onion stuffing & yorkshire puddings (DH loves them so we shall have them traditional or not)
Roast potatoes & parsnip mash
Roast carrots, broccoli cheese (None of us are a fan of cauliflower so going to try this instead), carrot & swede mash, peas, sprouts & green beans

Lansonmaid · 09/12/2025 14:31

Breakfast- smoked salmon on crackers

Lunch

What is "Mum's special stuffing" @mbosnz? Or is it a secret?

Nope, it's breadcrumbs, dried apricots, walnuts, celery, tomato, egg, parsley, salt and pepper and a touch of curry powder. (DH somewhat wryly observed that Mum's secret ingredient nearly always seems to be a touch of curry powder). I may have missed something out, I can't go check, as I am sat under a puddle of puss cat.

Iknowdino · 09/12/2025 16:27

@patooties We always have Cauliflower cheese with the roast ham on Christmas eve.

@AquaShark I love porchetta! Might attempt that for NY day. Thanks for the inspiration.

@FlatErica intrigued to knowwhat Sutton Hoo chicken is!

It’s just a very flavourful slow-reared chicken! https://www.wildmeat.co.uk/collections/free-range-chicken/products/chicken-free-range-whole

Breakfast - Welsh rarebit

Christmas afternoon tea

Finger sandwiches, Pigs in blankets, baby jacket potatos, veg sticks, Waitrose canapes

Christmas cake, mince pies, decorated ginger biscuits, baked Alaska, and a cheese board for me as mounjaro's given me a sugar aversion.

Evening - picking at the leftovers.

It's very chilled.

FridgeJenga · 09/12/2025 21:35

FlatErica · 09/12/2025 20:37

Thank you! That does look great.
I am already spending £12 - £15 for a chicken anyway.

@FridgeJengaYour name is very relatable for this time of year! Kudos!

Barney16 · 09/12/2025 21:44

I bought duck but I'm vearing towards a selection of superior snacks from M and S. I'm so knackered that the very thought of wrestling with a duck is too much.

Thank you 😄
The pressure is real come this time of year.
Luckily we have a drinks fridge in the garage so that lessens the jeopardy of the game somewhat.

Breakfast - normal food but nicer. Nobody wants to get up early for a big breakfast, they all eat stocking chocolate, and we eat dinner at 1pm
Dinner - No starter, otherwise nobody has room for the main course. Turkey crown with bacon, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, Brussels sprouts, another veg, chestnut stuffing, pigs in blankets, gravy, cranberry sauce. Christmas pudding, custard, orange jelly with mandarins in it. Nobody ever eats the Christmas pudding, which we usually eat on Boxing Day, because they are too full.
Evening meal (we eat dinner at 1.00 so we do have room to eat by the evening)
Smoked salmon and brown bread and butter. Pate and crusty rolls. Cheeses and biscuits. Chutneys. Fresh fruit. Mini mince pies.

firstofallimadelight · 09/12/2025 21:51

jay55 · 09/12/2025 22:33

I’m going to a buffet, there will be no yorkshires or pigs in blankets which is sad but there will be crab and lobster and beef and a room full of desserts.

@Periperi2025
Christmas afternoon tea sounds amazing.
We are doing our xmas roast on xmas eve and still debating actual xmas day lunch.
I will add this suggestion to the mix

PigeonsandSquirrels · 10/12/2025 09:24

I’m from Yorkshire so we have puddings with all roasts. It’s my heritage and I won’t hear a word against it even if it’s technically incorrect. I am a human Yorkshire pudding so we shall feast on them.

Natsku · 10/12/2025 09:34

Ham
Potato casserole
Swede casserole
Mulled wine marinated beetroot salad
Waldorf salad
Salted salmon
Smoked salmon
Pickled herrings

Traditional Finnish Christmas meal (except the waldorf salad)

I've ordered the casseroles and salads from a local cafe and I'm hoping to get a pre-cooked ham from Lidl so all I'll actually need to do on the day is finish the ham in the oven (with mustard and breadcrumb topping) and plate everything up, so I can enjoy the whole day rather than spending it cooking.

Denim4ever · 10/12/2025 09:46

There will be 3 of us DH, DS and myself. We prefer chicken, I buy an extra chicken leg so we can all have one. I use the Alistair Little 'Chicken with Forty Cloves of Garlic' method. We have pigs in blankets, beef stock gravy, cranberry, Cavolo Nero or kale, green beans, carrots, stuffing balls, sprouts. No starter, but nibbles with a mocktail made by DS, he's an adult but always used to make mocktails for my mum who didn't drink and we toast those no longer with us. After we have Christmas pud, beloved of DH but not so much liked by DS and I, do love the M and S brandy cream though

Alondra · 10/12/2025 09:53

Cooked prawns with home mayo
Fresh Sydney Rock oysters
Scampi on the BBQ
BBQ frenched lamb cutlets
Spanish ensaladilla rusa
Mango salad
Green Salad
Home made cream caramel with ice cream/cream and fresh berries

Hoppinggreen · 10/12/2025 09:56

Poppadoms and home made dips
Saag Aloo
Shahi paneer
Lamb biryiani
Keralan fish curry
Nan
Pilau rice

Passionfruit mousse

It will all be made on the morning of xmas eve (we are out that night)

CoastalCalm · 10/12/2025 09:58

I would normally do Yorkies - I make them Christmas Eve and just give them a quick blast in oven before serving

zingally · 10/12/2025 10:12

Breakfast will be the same as usual. Cereal or toast, perhaps eggs.

Dinner with be a roast chicken.
That'll be with:
Paxo stuffing (have tried the fancier stuff, but just prefer Paxo!)
Roast potatoes
Pigs in blankets
Veg of some sort - haven't yet decided. Will ask family for preferences.
Possibly some cauliflower cheese, but will only do a pre-made one.
Gravy

Pudding has, for the last few years, been a Viennetta. Everyone likes it, and it's just the right size to demolish in a single sitting, so no leftovers to deal with.

As for drinks, none of the adults attending are bothered with alcohol, so it'll be J2Os all round.

Tea will be picky bits of whatever Christmasy bits people fancy. A help yourself affair.
