And more importantly, will it feature yorkshire puddings?
We are having a rib of beef, so YPs will definitely feature.
Work colleagues are currently having a debate whether YPs should be a part of a traditional turkey Christmas roast or not.
(My take is have what you want!)

Turkey
Ham
Pigs in Blankets
Stuffing
Roasties
Carrots and Parsnips roasted in orange and honey
Spiced red cabbage
Broccoli
Sprouts
Cranberry sauce
Homemade gravy.

Dessert will be traditional Christmas pudding and a meringue wreath loaded with cranachan for the high proportion of family that don’t like currants!

tobee · 08/12/2025 17:53

Roast duck is our go to with roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, stuffing, carrots, red cabbage, sprouts, extra cocktail sausages, bread sauce, roast parsnips and gravy

Christmas pudding with brandy butter, cream, custard for choice.

I usually do the roast duck with 5 spice and orange and gin based on a Jennifer Patterson recipe.

I have enjoyed doing a roast goose in the past but you have to be fully concentrating as there's a lot of fat to drain off and avoid putting down the sink!

Bandol · 08/12/2025 18:23

Breakfast: pastries

Lunch: No starters but will probably have some nibbles with the champagne to keep the hunger at bay.

Turkey
Pigs in blankets
Sausage meat stuffing
Yorkshire puddings
Duck fat roast potatoes
Braised red cabbage
Sprouts with chestnuts and bacon
Peas
Carrots
Homemade bread sauce
Turkey gravy from a packet and augmented with the turkey juices

Christmas pudding with custard, brandy butter, clotted cream, pouring cream or ice cream

Supper: I will have a turkey, stuffing and bread sauce sandwich. The rest of the family can have whatever they can find and fancy in the inevitability full fridge.

I will make ahead and freeze the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings, and possibly the bread sauce. I’ve already got red cabbage in the freezer but there’s a good chance I’ll want to eat that before Christmas so I’d better plan on making some more.

Im currently trying to use up food from the freezer to make space for the Christmas food.

It’s not a good roast if there aren’t yorkies

Livpool · 08/12/2025 19:29

For the actual Christmas dinner:

Turkey crown
MiL’s homemade stuffing with sausage meat
Yorkies
Roast potatoes
Parsnips
Roasted carrots
Peas
Turkey gravy - a ‘proper’ one as well as granules

DS doesn’t like potatoes (😱) or gravy so will have turkey with rice and whatever vegetables he picks at. My DM doesn’t eat anything but the roasties and will have some mushroom soup first.

For dessert:
Christmas pudding for MIL and PIL with Baileys cream
The rest of us have Vienetta (obviously v posh 😂😂)

We have me, DH, DS(10), my DM, MiL and FIL. It will be the second Christmas without my lovely dad so will be bittersweet.

Oldraver · 08/12/2025 19:44

Stuffed duck
Filet of beef
Roast potatoes, parsnips and carrots
Dauphinoise potatoes
Creamed parsnips
Piggies
Other stuffing

Actually DS1 had asked for Yorkshire's, said he will bring some

patooties · 08/12/2025 19:46

We are having ‘whatever we win in Waitrose meat roulette’
(we are not bothered)
*this dates back to about 7 years ago my turkey was over £120 and I thought ‘fuck that’.
DP is always in the supermarket getting a ‘forgotten thing’ such as ice, baileys, butter or whatever was missed from the online shop. He swore there were massive posh turkeys in their millions for a tenner. So we go for ‘10p turkey’ which might end up being beef, turkey or lamb.
we don’t do starters- we have nice pastries for breakfast, bacon butties mid morning.
we eat about 3?
meat
roasted parsnips, roasted onion and roast potatoes
broccoli
swede mash
sprouts
carrots
pigs in blankets if it’s turkey / YP if it’s beef .
gravy
force meat stuffing
we do not like Xmas pudding so we have berries with either Vienetta or a chocolate roulade (HM)
then cheese. Loads of cheese

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 08/12/2025 20:06

YPs - yes with beef, not with anything else. There have to be rules or society breaks down. The rule is bread sauce with Turkey.

We have trad turkey roast - turkey, roast ps, stuffing, pigs in blankets, carrots, sprouts, parsnips, bread sauce, gravy, cranbury sauce (which no one eats) mustard (which I eat). This not include cauli cheese because clearly cheese with a roast is madness. Or red cabbage because I don't like it and we never had it as kids. Nor mashed pots because it's not thanksgiving and nothing - nothing - should be allowed in the way of roasties.

No first course - because I want as many helpings of C'mas dinner as poss.

sometime later - Christmas pudding (which I don't think anyone much likes so we have a small one and drown tiny portions in cream and brandy sauce). I always mean to get C'mas pudding ice cream which I had once and was rather good

sometime later - cheeseboard with charcuterie, olive and wotnot

ViciousCurrentBun · 08/12/2025 20:07

We have never had Yorkshire pudding with Christmas dinner but DS GF is from Yorkshire and they always do so we will.

CalliopePlantain · 08/12/2025 20:08

We don’t do starters.

main is roast pork belly
roast potatoes
maple glazed carrots
brussels
cabbage
peas/sweetcorn for the fussy ones
stuffing balls
pigs in blankets
Yorkshire puddings - there would be a murder if there wasn’t any
gravy

desserts are Xmas pudding
cherry Bakewell cheesecake
tiramisu

PickleJelly · 08/12/2025 20:25

BrieAndChilli · 08/12/2025 16:04

Starters - I do lots of mini ones so you can have abit of everything as I can never choose!!

  • Prawn cocktail in either large shot glasses or toasted bread baskets
  • Garlic dough balls
  • Brie and cranberry filo crackers
  • Star toast and pate
  • might add in some smoked salmon something

Mains

  • Turkey crown, roast beef and leg of lamb (family coming and all requested something different!!)
  • Roast potatoes, parsnips and carrots
  • Cauliflower cheese
  • Mashed swede
  • Brocolli, red cabbage and sprouts
  • Stuffing balls, yorkshire pudding and pigs in blankets
  • Cranberry, mint and bread sauce, mustard
  • Gravy

Puddings

  • Christmas pudding
  • Chocolate orange cheesecake
  • Trifle
  • Cheese and crackers

This sounds lovely... But logistically, how do you cook all of it? Do you have multiple ovens?

Breakfast:
Bacon muffins. Fruits/yoghurt/granola/smoked salmon

Stuffing: ( waiting for Jamie's Cook-ahead Christmas, tonight on Channel 4 at 8pm).

This sounds lovely... But logistically, how do you cook all of it? Do you have multiple ovens?

We haver starters about 90 min before mains and I have a nor al oven and a smaller grill size oven. Meat goes in planned to come out 1 hour before eating and is wrapped in layers of foil and towels to stay warm and then other bits get chucked in the ovens. Will have an airfryer this year to utilise too
