Anecdote about wanking off three men in a random wood in Edinburgh or something. Everyone laughed hysterically.

Is it just me or have TV chat shows gone really downhill? Confused

I absolutely love her as an actress but she's always had a crass sense of humour. Just her thing.

WonderingWanda · 29/11/2025 07:14

I didn't see it but would agree I don't find her attempts to be outrageous funny. The thing is she is much more interesting when she is being serious, I watched some of her Big Adventure series where she was travelling around the USA and she came across as a really nice person.

attichoarder · 29/11/2025 07:18

I have never found her funny, I feel her “humour” is aggressive and vulgar. She is clearly a very intelligent woman and seems to put down people who disagree with her. I had always thought I was in a minority in my views and that the world over her humour but this thread shows I am not alone!

For all the consternation, the absolute beauty of this thread is that Miriam, herself, would not give a hoot 😆

She does if you ask her "was that supposed to be funny?"...then she'll call you a "vile old cunt". One of the nastiest people I've ever had the misfortune to meet.

I think most comments are on here, its just a woman thats got a bit a fame, still human at the end of the day.
If you dont like it watch something else.

But by that measure, as everyone is "still human" then people can do or say anything and we have to say nice words about them? She is on BBC1, it's mainstream tv, it's a really uncouth topic of conversation. People have sex shocker. She's a talented, intelligent woman - every time she is on anything she tells a variation of the story. As others have said, the stuff she will have seen and done - she will have fabulous anecdotes that are still a bit risque but funny.

Hellodarknessyouoldprick · 29/11/2025 07:22

I’ve never understood the love for her. I think she’s awful and her who “act” is boring a screams desperation to be seen.

But enough people must like her if she’s still invited to speak.

Lastfroginthebox · 29/11/2025 07:22

She's just an awful woman who loves to shock for the sake of it.

Simplepink · 29/11/2025 07:25

She is not an awful woman. She has depth intelligence and compassion which many seem to lack. Her travel series were ace.
i never watch those celebrity chat show as for exactly the reason that Graham Norton is irritating

Horses7 · 29/11/2025 07:26

MM always likes to shock with her potty mouth and outrageous stories. All a bit sad really for a grown (and perhaps intelligent, I’m not sure) woman. I really don’t think much of her but she was a decent Professor Sprout in Harry Potter.

I disagree. From my experience of working with many people over the years in mental health settings, the ones who “don’t give a hoot” are the ones that absolutely do in private. Most of the time, that outlandish, “I don’t care what anyone thinks, I’m me” behaviour comes from a place of deep insecurity and an act so that no one can actually see who they really are.

Maybe she’s different, I’ve never met her. But when you’ve seen it, you recognise it.

EleanorReally · 29/11/2025 07:30

i enjoy her travel shows

Sunnysidegold · 29/11/2025 07:33

"well I couldn't say no"
And then lovely Alexander skaarsgard "you can say no".

MidnightColours · 28/11/2025 23:27

I have to say, don't watch Graham Norton anymore, celebs taking turns to tell all these contrived stories one after the other really does get boring. Plus, I always found he gave the (often lone) woman much less air time than the men, but maybe I made that up!

Parkinson’s interviews were so brilliant. Far more revealing and interesting. You actually learned something about the person. And it wasn’t always actors. He would also interview intellectuals, photographers, sports people. Now it is just pop stars and actors. When I was young I got a great education from television because of all the arts programmes. Now they just rot your brain.

pestowithwalnuts · 29/11/2025 07:40

I flicked through the TV line up and saw she was was on so didn't watch it.
There's always some sordid gross story tripped out by her.
I find her quite cringing.and she embarrasses me.

ThatCyanCat · 29/11/2025 07:27

Many years ago when I was working backstage of a play that she was in....I'm saying no more than that for fear of outing.

This is so true. I've recently watched a few old episodes of Call my Bluff and Face the Music. I watched these as a child and they were mainstream TV. Watching them now, the guests, the topics, the level of sophistication is startling compared to the fodder we get fed by broadcasters now. Bread and circuses springs to mind.

I think it's great to see a woman who doesn't care what anyone thinks and who breaks all the rules about how women are supposed to behave. I find it very cheering.

Me too.

OtterlyAstounding · 29/11/2025 07:46

Sunnysidegold · 29/11/2025 07:33

"well I couldn't say no"
And then lovely Alexander skaarsgard "you can say no".

See, that's the thing - what kind of message is that for her to be putting out there as if it's a funny little mishap?

"Oh, if you see a sexual predator wanking off in public then you should encourage him in his predation by 'pleasantly' finishing him off, and then if another predator is hiding in the bushes and asks you to wank him off too, you just CAN'T say no."

It's the sort of attitude that screams, "Well, men wouldn't have a need to rape if women just satisfied them, would they? Even I do it, and I'm a lesbian. Don't make a fuss, darling, it's only wanking him off!"

🤢🤮 It's so bizarre, like she's siding with sexual predators and making them out to be poor, neglected souls who just needed her 'help'.

If she was male she'd have been cancelled years ago.

spot on

AtIusvue · 29/11/2025 07:52

In the past watching her on Graham, she was funny. She would blurt things out without much care and it cuts through the celeb twaddle we have to endure.

However, last night was awful.

You could see her brain working in real time to see how she could insert herself into every conversation, how she could get a laugh and say things to shock. It was like was an attention seeking child and all the adults clapping at everythjng she says.

The story of the solider up the tree, was both shocking and funny at the time (what 10 years ago?) But it was because there was a carefreeness and I certainly didn’t expect a posh old actress to say something so outrageous. But we’ve all heard the story and to add to it was just grim.

The framing of the story also changed. Before, she was ‘helping a solider out’ /felt sorry for the man. With the two subsequent men she ‘helped out’, she said she felt she had no choice and had to. So what we have in the end, is a woman giving out hand jobs in the park because she felt pressure to do so.

Why the fuck did Graham want her to tell that story???? The story leaves you thinking….this was coercion? Sexual assault? I have no idea…..but it wasn’t bloody funny.

sillygoof · 29/11/2025 07:52

i saw her on something years ago with Justin Fletcher (Mr Tumble) and she was absolutely vile to him. She really embarrassed him, she said ‘I’ve never heard of you’ and basically called him fat. He seemed such a sweet, quiet man and I hated her for it. Cannot stand her.

MrsMitford3 · 29/11/2025 07:53

I used to think she was funny and a bit irreverent.

I think for a long time now she has been thoroughly unpleasant and will immediately turn over if she is on.
Her behaviour is increasingly sordid and not funny at all.
Just sad really.

Rocknrollstar · 29/11/2025 07:56

I won’t have her in my living room.

DeafLeppard · 29/11/2025 07:58

cardibach · 28/11/2025 23:32

I can’t bear her. She thinks she’s so shocking being a sexually active lesbian, but the world has moved on. Nobody cares. Vile.

Agree - she’s dreadful.
