Anecdote about wanking off three men in a random wood in Edinburgh or something. Everyone laughed hysterically.

Is it just me or have TV chat shows gone really downhill? Confused

People will talk, yes. Narrow minded people who in 2025 are apparently are still shocked and disgusted by an older woman telling dirty jokes 😏

I’m not shocked or disgusted. I just think she’s an unfunny try hard. I’d think the same if she was a 25 year old man.

Again, LMAO at this description of me. I really, really don't like vulgar humour.

But you keep saying MM is funny. She uses vulgar humour. So which is it?
No to MM being funny? Or no to vulgarity being funny? Because it can’t be both.

You championed Mm for her ‘humour’ so that seems like a contradiction. I had no problem with her when I only knew her as an actress but after watching her as MM she repulsed me. I’d be equally repulsed by a man with her potty mouth too.

But we all have different humour. People who have made me laugh out loud: George Carlin, Karl Pilkington, Alan Carr, Vicky Pepperdine (acting as not seen her real self but she’s brilliant).

'Vulgar humour' is subjective. You can do it cleverly, or not cleverly. I don't mind it when it's done knowingly and cleverly. To me it is then not vulgar - it's something else. It's not my favourite type of thing, but I don't find it 'vile'/'vulgar'/shocking etc.

How do you know when it’s being clever and not just stomach churning?

The sexual politics between men and women in the different scenarios described are clearly entirely different.

Different in what regard?

What exactly did you find 'funny' about the story?

What was the punch line?

Because I'm genuinely not seeing any humour, much less 'cleverness' to any of it.

It's obviously subjective and taste often comes down to whether you 'get' someone or not, which involves all kinds of nuances.

I don't find her as funny anymore as I've heard the jokes before but I don't find her 'vile'/'vulgar'/disgusting - to me that is just misunderstanding her.

It's not 'shitty behaviour' - it's sad. It's messed up. Thank goodness times have changed.

To be clear, I’m calling groping women shitty. Saying “oh they’re of a different era” is a cop out. We have moved on. MM is an intelligent woman. She must surely understand the potential impact of positioning “oh I couldn’t say no” as an amusing tale and nothing more. Even if some reason she hadn’t considered it, AS gave her the perfect opportunity to add some context. If she’d said in true MM style “oh yes dear. These days if I even got asked I’d tell the cunts to fuck off” it would have sat differently.

So she’s still churning out the same old shite? So much so even you’ve got tired of it.

Are you actually serious with these points?

Are you serious in believing “posh person swearing” is funny rather than entirely predictable?

I would never, ever excuse a man who groped a woman as being 'from a different era'.

Yes it would have been better if MM had said that. She didn't. She's not a person to look to for a healthy debate on sexual politics!

I thought the 'posh people swearing' joke got old back in the '4 Weddings' fukkity fuk opening scene days.

And that's what? 3 decades ago?

Well, it was shorthand for having to very obviously and tediously spell out the fact that the reasons people find certain kinds of humour funny in our society are often related to class, especially in British society. If you got from that that I am straightforwardly saying 'I think it's funny when posh people say rude words!' then I'm not sure I can help.

Who are all these 'people' who found the 'joke' so side splitting?

On this thread, you appear to be the one and only person defending her 'humour'.

I didn't mean that joke was funny, just that many of the other things she says are funny, to some people

ForHazelTiger · 29/11/2025 14:07

I think we've established that a lot of people really, really don't like Miriam Margolyes 😂

Which is what a lot of people have a problem with. The unhealthiness of that particular story

truthsayers · 29/11/2025 14:14

even reading the comments on this thread about the things she’s said over the years makes me cringe inside out. Truly embarrassing.

HangerLaneGyratorySystem · 29/11/2025 14:22

I bought her autobiography thinking it was going to be full of interesting stories and wisdom, and it was basically her saying she had a privileged childhood, had a great time as a young woman, had a lot of seedy encounters which she recalls with relish and basically came over as entitled and crass.

I think a lot of people might have hoped she would be brave and outspoken, a bit cheeky etc., but find that she's crude and self aggrandising. It goes beyond a celeb just not being :your cup of tea" but sadly she still gets all these platforms like GN.

Her vulgar, self indulgent 'humour' is not one of them.

I doubt a Chubby Brown or Bernard Manning 2025 would be on the telly today.
