(Sorry, but I am a bit worried about DH getting flu, or me getting it and being unable to look after him).

Badenoch is an idiot don’t apologise.
I’ve “only” got a cough but it’s miserable and I want to minimise the chance anyone else gets it. I’m popping out for a couple of things (live alone and no one else to ask) and definitely wearing a mask. Might not work, won’t harm as I’m still aware that hand hygiene is just as important.

If it's a Russian advent calendar, shouldn't a journalist or opposition leader fall out of each window that you open...?

The government is set to spend £500m on youth services in England, saying the money is needed to revive the "decimated" sector.
Over the next four years, the government aims to build or refurbish 250 youth centres, as well as launch 50 new Young Future hubs, which Labour said in its manifesto would be sites bringing together existing services under one roof.
By 2035, half a million young people will also be paired with youth workers, volunteers and other trusted adults to help them stay safe online and develop connections.

Real flu is nasty. A lot of people who have had a bad cold at some point in their lives and probably self-diagnosed it as flu. Me and DH had our jabs a few weeks ago and are very grateful for them.

yy don’t apologise Pandora flu can be extremely dangerous, I had flu last October caught it a week before my flu jab was due, I hadn’t been that unwell in years I honestly thought at one point I was dying was nearly three weeks in bed & took me a couple of months before I felt reasonably well again.
Badenoch is a lunatic, she seems incapable of saying anything remotely sensible or truthful she would start a fight in an empty room.

Don't apologise.

I am all jabbed and sitting here quite cross about the staff members in their 40s and 50s off with avoidable flu.

MN appears not to have clocked that a number of schools have had to close in the last week or 2 because of the sheer numbers of staff and pupils who are ill.
All hell will break loose if they clock closing schools and the UKHSA’s weasliest possible wording that people might want to wear a mask and stay home if they are feeling unwell.

Alternatively we could have fitted ventilation into every school classroom when schools were closed for a fraction of the 10billion lost to fraud and we a) wouldn’t have this problem and b) everyone would be healthier.

At some point we are going to need to have a conversation about what Johnson did to public health in the uk when he abolished PHE and created UKHSA.

dontcallmelen · 10/12/2025 20:41

Absolutely agree Rafa Johnson was totally irresponsible, also I think which didn’t help was the previous culling of LA public health inspectors/department if they had been fit for purpose as they were in many other countries the farce that was track&trace & millions spaffed by Dido Harding wouldn’t have happened, that fucker should be in jail.

DuncinToffee · 10/12/2025 20:46

Streeting has asked the doctors to postpone their strike next week because of the high number of flu cases.

Although the strike by may be averted after ministers offered the British Medical Association a fresh deal

I’m generally with the doctors on this but I am starting to think it would be quite irresponsible to go ahead with this one.

Piggywaspushed · 10/12/2025 21:13

I’m slightly dubious about the strike but would support more if they postpone. Other industries timing would make a big difference (post strike in the run up to Christmas).

The NHS is in such a bad way that there will always be a serious impact, cancelled surgery and appointments from a strike. The only thing would be be it getting closer to the new financial year.

Another Tory joined Reform, Ben Bradley.

Well, he is the type...

PandoraSocks · 11/12/2025 09:33

Another Tory has been. Is Farage holding a presser or is he still running scared?

Another Tory joined Reform, Ben Bradley.

Reinforcing if not confirming the fact that Reform are closely aligned with extreme Tory values. Making it that much harder to appeal to centrists. I.e. 80% of the posters on this thread. Who - unlike c.30% of the gobshites infecting polling will vote when it's time.

It's probably not broadcast (and if it was, who would listen) but with every Tory defection to Reform, I can see the pressure at no.10 ease that tiny bit.

BIossomtoes · 11/12/2025 11:31

From Mansfield - very close to Lee Anderson’s patch. I guess he saw which way the wind’s blowing round there.

MaybeNotBob · 11/12/2025 11:48

Well, that's worked brilliantly for the NHS...

Hopefully the UK will rejoin Erasmus sooner than planned.

Another Reform pixie dies.

I go onto Facebook to connect with my family.

I also have joined local groups and most of them who post are not even in the area. Topics for conversation are (no awards for guessing) potholes, parcels left on the wrong doorstep, tidying up hedges on public pathways and parking. Occasionally there's the missing dog and cat which draws people in. It's no surprise that there's a Reform led council near us.

This person for example. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/dec/05/reform-uk-revokes-membership-ian-cooper-council-leader-accused-of-racism

House of Lords blocked the employment rights bill again

DuncinToffee · 11/12/2025 21:33

There is something very uncomfortable about that sentence

OP posts:
BIossomtoes · 12/12/2025 08:22

The Lords is writing its own death warrant. It’s attempting to filibuster the Assisted Dying bill out of existence too. The obvious deliberate thwarting of democracy is providing the best evidence possible for it to be reformed.

Of course a non existent HoL would be a gift to a Reform government.

Which makes me wonder ... cui bono ? (I was amused and amazed that Latin still has the facility to trigger snowflakes, I must try and use it more often. Maybe the next thread title should be in Latin. now we've confirmed that foreign languages are Kryptonite to botty ploppers)
