How many "Christmas Parties" are you going to?

Just interested as every year the media goes big for "Christmas Party season" and I imagine everyone is going to a string of Christmas Parties every other night.

I'm going to three although none of them will be particularly wild!

I’m going to 5, although one is just after Christmas. First one is tonight and the one I’m most excited by - all of my closest friends (10 in total) are going out for cocktails in Covent Garden. Then next week I’ve got Christmas drinks with my Pilates class, then work Christmas party (which unlike most people here I actually love - I’m really close friends with lots of my colleagues)! Then I’ve got a big family party at my aunties on 20th, and the final one is a dinner and drinks with 5 ex work colleagues I’m still good friends with.

I love a party/night out and I’m looking forward to them all!

Jesus most people on her are miserable!
I have a work Christmas do, book club Christmas meal, school mums meet up, we are hosting a party with all the kids, going to pub Christmas meet up just before Christmas etc. I love it!

It's not 'miserable' to go to few or no Christmas parties. I really love Christmas, but constant parties are not the only way to enjoy the run-up to it.

I'll be going to one (my work one). I'm singing in a Christmas concert, and going to a carol service and going to a wreath-making session. I'll be spending 5 dsys staying with 2 lots of family and spending NY with friends. That's plenty. Going to a bunch of parties would not improve my Christmas!

I’m not going to any.

None

None and never been to one either! I don't think most people are going to endless parties around Christmas that the media would have us all think.

DinoLil · 29/11/2025 08:41

None.

Sandsnake · 29/11/2025 08:55

Probably zero, or maybe a shortish appearance at two of them. Been invited to around seven I think - five with work and a couple more with hobbies etc. I like all the people, they’re great. But with how busy things are there are some genuine clashes with kids shows etc.

I also don’t really want to! I’m not feeling hugely confident at the moment and we’ve had a busy time. I’m also a weird mix of outgoing seeming but actually introverted and a bit awkward. Lastly, I don’t want to get to the time off I have over Christmas already feeling a bit unhealthy and poor due to all the parties before! I’d rather just have my routine as normal, with my sports and general stuff, and then really enjoying the period over Christmas. I know, I’m very logical and boring!!

10 - not Christmas 'parties' but nights out from today until NYE 🥳

QueenStevie · 29/11/2025 09:47

I'm not sure anyone actually holds those Christmas parties like you see on the M&S adverts where everyone is dancing around in someone's living room in sparkly clothes eating canapes.

I don't know why it is such a prevailing Christmas advertising trope. Surely someone in marketing has gone, "Hold on, who is actually doing this?"

Or maybe I'm just not invited.

champagneplanet · 29/11/2025 11:03

No actual parties. Works ‘Christmas party’ is a boozy lunch at a tapas place. Having drinks with my friends one night and meeting up for a meal another.

Won’t be needing to rush out and buy a sparkly sequin pant suit any time soon though. I do wonder who buys all the stuff that’s in the shops this time of year.

Empress13 · 30/11/2025 07:38

TBH I don’t thing firms spend the huge amounts of money to do the Xmas parties like they used to. Back in the day all firms I worked for held big Xmas parties at venues with sparkly dress codes etc now it’s just a drink and maybe a meal in a pub not the same vibe IMO

Oblomov25 · 30/11/2025 08:09

I've got 2 work Christmas parties and both are full on sparkly events, full meals, hotel room paid.

I disagree with many posters. Yes firms may not be quite as full on as they were years ago, but if you think no firms are still doing it, you are wrong, many of my friends still go to such works do's.

plus posters saying no one has such parties at home are also wrong. Loads of my friends go to such house parties.

The sales of a sparkly dress is shops is rife, so yes these dresses are still being bought and used, where do you think all these people are going?

twiddleit · 30/11/2025 08:39

None, unless you count my work do that takes place during the working day.

RaininSummer · 30/11/2025 08:40

None. Don't know anybody who has them.

Snackpocket · 30/11/2025 08:45

I’d love to go to a Christmas party, a proper one like the adverts on tv but no one I know has them and my house is too small to host that kind of thing. So just my work Christmas lunch/drinks and Christmas drinks in London with friends on the cards for me.

BeaSure · 30/11/2025 09:36

DD works in an upmarket country restaurant (don't know how best to describe it) and they're booked up throughout December with office lunches and glittery work dinner dances/discos.

They also hold a couple of nights where you buy a ticket for an evening of dinner and dancing. Same on NYE. Little black dresses and sparkly outfits are out in force and most people have a great time.

RuthW · 30/11/2025 09:55

One. My dance school
is having a social.

I will be going to three Christmas dances, but I go to three dances every month so don’t count those.

Lifestooshort71 · 30/11/2025 09:58

I'm going to 3 casual lunches with friends, 1 tea for some volunteers and I'm taking the family out for lunch end December. None of them 'parties' as such, more get-togethers. I don't think any of us have parties as such any more.

teaandtoastwouldbenice · 30/11/2025 09:59

Work do
Old school friends Xmas outing
Hopefully a drink with a friend 1-1
and a festive afternoon meet up with a friend and our DC
