A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

And retail sales down on Black Friday. This is the problem with Labour, they depress everyone and everything.

The chancellor is misleadingly doom and gloom about the nations finances, people tighten their belts. Hardly surprising.

Something that occurred to me. Reeves wants to encourage people to invest in stocks and shares ISAs rather than cash savings. But we have just had a real time demonstration on how markets are impacted by Government decisions and briefings.

For people already nervous about stocks and shares they will not have had their confidence boosted by the Chancellor or the treasury.

I presume we have normal Political relations with Bangladesh. Therefore if expected Tulip Siddiq is sentenced to up to ten years for 'corruption' offences, she must be striped of the Labour Whip. She must also be forced out of Parliament as a MP (it is up to herself and legal team to fight extradition) and a By Election must be called. Otherwise, we are not respecting a country we have 'normal' therefore respect for their Government and judicial decisions.
Ex-City minister Tulip Siddiq faces decade-long jail sentence if found guilty in corruption trial | Daily Mail Online

She has been sentenced to two years, but I strongly disagree that she should be stripped of the whip, let alone forced out of parliament. She did not receive anything remotely resembling a fair trial. She was not allowed to know the charges and evidence against her. The lawyer she instructed to represent her was placed under house arrest and faced threats to his daughter. The anti-corruption commission in Dhaka, which led on the prosecution, repeatedly made statements to the press about her alleged culpability, which is not consistent with a fair, impartial trial. She was not given any opportunity to defend herself. That is why lawyers from both sides of the house wrote to the Bangladeshi High Commissioner in the UK protesting about the proceedings.

Having normal diplomatic relations with a country does not mean we automatically respect all their judicial decisions.

Exactly. Your average UK citizen doesn't have the financial knowledge or confidence to invest in S+S (I include myself in this). So all Labour are doing is discouraging saving and financial prudence.

They tried their best to that’s for sure.

Good point.

I haven't caught up with the thread

I tried to keep off here yesterday but got caught up in a thread about delivery services late last night

Discovered I was classist as well as racist

Even posters who you'd think would know better assumed I was making a point about class

The mind boggles.

i've got to work from 11 to 7 today so somebody please slap me if you see me on here! (in those times) I'll end up working late again if I get distracted 🤦🏽‍♀️

ChristmasMantleStatue · 01/12/2025 10:05

Don't be so silly @EmeraldRoulette . We all know you are a non-worker according to RR.

(Hope you have an okay day) xx

Reeves ‘misled’ BBC over BudgetPolitical editor Chris Mason claims Chancellor withheld vital information from voters when she laid the ground for tax rises

Interesting. The BBC saying this will damage Labour.

@EmeraldRoulettegod the accusations on here are nonsense, usually from the same lot.

CaveMum · 01/12/2025 10:13

Morning all, I’m back! What a whirlwind weekend for the “Cave” household and a fantastic time for the martial arts school the DC attend with every competitor winning at least 1 medal plus one child taking home a Grand Champion trophy for most points won in his division.

DD also got her black belt promotion, so well worth the VERY long drive!

Back to the thread: Labour just lurch from one disaster to another don’t they? Why on earth is KS giving a speech about Welfare Reform today? Why was it not in the Budget?

I’ve caught up with TRIM this morning - both their take on RR’s misleading statements (Peston NOT a happy bunny on this) and Dan Neidle’s assessment of the Budget.

Also listened to the Leading interview with Polanski - they gave him a bit of a going over on his economics and his lack of a road map to implement his theoretical plans. RS said he was “horrified” that he didn’t know the difference between the debt and deficit. He also didn’t know what the top rate of tax was!

DancingFerret · 01/12/2025 10:19

Darren Jones says £4bn headroom for a country like ours was insufficient and RR needed to increase it, completely ignoring the fact the current argument centres around integrity in office.

My view is the OBR, regardless of allegations that it's become too big for its boots, is keen to see RR held to account and possibly replaced.

ChristmasMantleStatue · 01/12/2025 10:23

yes- £4 bn is quite insignificant. The issue is the lying.

Discussing this with my father and he shrugged and said if you get rid of every politician who lies then you would have no-one left. All true- but when the actual OBR makes the decision to attack the Chancellor based on her complete and utter lack of integrity. Fucking hell. It's bloody serious. And despicable.

I am wondering though- she lied - what happens to this stupid budget then? It's formulated on a bed of lies. Surely the Labour party have to chuck her out, chuck the budget out and start again- preferably with another GE. They have lost every single argument.

I genuinely feel like rioting over this utter bullshit.

DancingFerret · 01/12/2025 10:28

KS on the news channel now just starting his speech.

ChristmasMantleStatue · 01/12/2025 10:33

has there ever been a situation before where a PM has had to go on the tv to defend a budget before?

Did I mention 'shit show' ?

EmeraldRoulette · 01/12/2025 10:34

@ChristmasMantleStatue actually I don't earn that much these days even if I was still full time. So I guess they would consider me a worker 😂

I doubt it

twistyizzy · 01/12/2025 10:39

Robert Peston:

The PM’s chief secretary said the OBR’s letter to the Treasury Select Committee spelling out when the Chancellor knew there was no fiscal black hole was formally requested by the committee. I don’t think that is correct. The committee chair did ask to see the letter after it didn’t turn up when she had been led to expect it. But her request implies that it was the OBR that volunteered to write and publish the letter, so concerned was the OBR that there had been widespread misinformation for weeks about the health of the public finances. And to set the context, the OBR has never in its history felt the need to set out who knew what and when in this way"

LupaMoonhowl · 01/12/2025 10:41

Made the mistake of putting on the radio (GB News) to hear the ghastly nasal whine of AntiFarmer’s speech😡 Turned to a music channel instead.

DancingFerret · 01/12/2025 10:55

It's not the speech, it's watching how he wriggles as he responds to the journos' questions; it's a masterclass in prevarication.

CambridgeSingers · 01/12/2025 11:01

This is rich isn’t it - if he really believed in welfare reform to get people to work, why didn’t they prioritise it? Where’s the plan?

as for ‘we inevitably had to raise revenue’ p plenty of experts don’t agree with that.

CambridgeSingers · 01/12/2025 11:03

Or are they simply scrabbling as they can see Kemi’s attack hit the bullseye?

EasternStandard · 01/12/2025 12:24

Even seeing the bollard’s write up is irritating enough. The arrogance and lack of insight is off the scale.

Stay in and see how people feel when they vote.
