A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Iwe’ve had the ‘economist’ who doesn’t listen to policy economists and poops on professional economics groups, so...

i agree I will be staying up with the popcorn to see
the results next time!

CambridgeSingers · 30/11/2025 17:15

If they went for Torsten, he’s too contaminated. My debate would be whether Streeting went for that or straight for the top job. Money’s on the latter! Yvette C could be a dark horse candidate?

the big three are a jeering sneering charisma free zone.

CambridgeSingers · 30/11/2025 17:16

Although didn’t Cooper look exhausted at the budget? She looked like she’s fancying retirement to me.

It’s truly awful, what they are doing. I was talking to my grown up son yesterday and he said Reform on their own he wouldn’t vote for but say Reform and Conservatives together with someone like Sunak as Chancellor would be a different matter.

Farage has reported her to the Ethics Committee. I don’t think anything will happen there tbh but as a replacement I think Bell might chance his arm. He is worse than she is.

redange · 30/11/2025 17:30

There are some odd members of the Labour Party not least my eldest niece who is 28 and Private School educated. This, unlike her Grammar school educated 22 year old (Farmer Brother) and 19 year old Uni Sister who loathe the Labour Party. Niece 1 lives in London and has voted Labour in 2019/2024 having joined them in the Sixth Form of her 'Private' School. She believes it is perfectly fair that to keep the family farm a payment of £2 Million IHT is correct and fully supports the lifting of the child cap. She has been totally indoctrinated with Left Wing 'Shite' since Bristol University !

AlexandraBee · 30/11/2025 17:32

TheNuthatch · 30/11/2025 16:56

Hmm.
My best guess would be Torsten Bell, Darren Jones, or Pat McFadden.
Labour don't operate like that though, so they'll probably appoint someone that we've never heard of, who used to work as a car park attendant in Burnley.

Yes .. I vote for the ex-car park attendant in Burnley, Lee, his parents leafleted for Labour back in the day, he was brought up in a council house, he went to a well-regarded comprehensive school chosen by his socialist parents (I mean they wanted state school but not a shitty state school), and he drinks builders tea. His credentials are perfect. The only thing missing off his CV is competence in Economics, but that hasn’t affected his predecessor.

zurigo · 30/11/2025 17:39

TheNuthatch · 30/11/2025 16:28

Yep, and yes they were warned.

Well we won't see another Labour government for a very long time after this lot have finished with their epic fuck up.
No doubt the tory press will be to blame when they lose the next election, not Labour lies and ridiculous policies that don't survive contact with reality.

The thing is, right now we're likely to get Reform next time. Reform will be fucking awful. They have no experience of government, they chop and change what they say they're going to do depending on what today's hot button topic is, and the only Reform candidate I've ever met and spoken to was a complete arse. IMO, if we think things are broken now, just wait, because it will get a lot worse before it gets better.

So okay, we had 14 years of the Conservatives, in which they hardly covered themselves with glory. I can't remember all the details, but in that time we went through 5 PMs, only two of whom were decent (May & Sunak IMO), now we've got the shitshow that is Labour and next we're likely to get Reform and god help us all. But after that - what are we likely to get? Will the electorate be so shell-shocked that they'll scuttle back to either Con or Lab?

FWIW, I think Kemi has been fabulous this week, both in response to the budget and on Laura K this morning. When she's good, she's really good.

redange · 30/11/2025 17:45

No if 'Reform' fail the country will be going the way described by Professor Betz. Therefore, lets hope we on the 'right' can ensure that non 'tribal' Tories work with a Reform Government. EX 25 year Conservative Member, Now Reform Member....

CambridgeSingers · 30/11/2025 17:51

Unless something really changes, we’re heading for some kind of coalition next time

the80sweregreat · 30/11/2025 17:51

People are not happy and want change.
it’s tough as I can see all sides, but play the system and the really genuine people are left to look like ‘ scrougers’ when they are not at all. It’s so hard.

Agree. A right Vs left coalition. None of which will be effective

Well yes - an obvious consequence of the fraudulent benefit scrounges that genuine benefit claimants suffer judgment. It’s the system at fault and it needs to be fixed, not worsened as Labour are doing.

SpaceRaccoon · 30/11/2025 17:54

I'm so scared of a Labour/Green coalition. Those loons did a lot of damage in coalition with the SNP in Scotland.

CambridgeSingers · 30/11/2025 17:55

Totally agree @SpaceRaccoon

CambridgeSingers · 30/11/2025 17:56

I’d have been a green in years gone by, but not these greens…

The only thing worse than Labour. A Labour / Green coalition.

redange · 30/11/2025 18:24

Niece no 1 is not very nice calling her mother 'Racist and a Fascist' when she saw her Reform Party Conference Lanyard. Telling sister she was going to 'grass' on her about her party membership to the other teachers. Despite being educated at a Private school, she demands that all forms of education based on Selection whether through money or exam be scrapped. She was also in Bristol when Edward Colston's Statue was pulled down.
She talks with a fake 'Sarf London' accent despite being from Lincolnshire telling people she went to school in the East End..

Yes I noticed that too. I think she may be approaching the end of her political career. I doubt she'd welcome the job of chancellor. Starmer doesn't even need a foreign sec as he does it all himself.

Welcome to the thread.

I don't really follow Reform. I understand why people are turning to them though. People will keep voting for change until it actually happens.
Personally, I'm hoping and praying for a tory revival at the next election. Failing that, a tory/reform coalition with the economy as its main focus. I don't relish the thought of a Reform government, but I'll take it over another term of Labour.

I can't bear the thought of Labour again or Reform. I'm really hoping for a Tory revival!

I've seen loads of supportive comments re Kemi since the budget. Quite a few people saying she's turned them (back) to the Tories with her speech! So 🤞🤞

Kemi was very good on Times Radio this morning. Clear and strong, and right about welfare spending and incentives.

Of course there’s a growing number who will vote for never ending welfare and tax rises but really it’s not going to work.

The media might loathe Labour enough now to give her an easier time too.

That can only happen if JRM types stay to help Rupert Lowe take over and the John Henry types go.

Do you mean a coalition?
I'm not sure how that would work, but the prospect of another drubbing at the ballot box may focus minds.
Kemi has already said that any tory MPs who do not support leaving the ECHR will not be allowed to stand at the next election.

Yes, people were not happy and voted for cjange last time as well. And Labour happened.

Another unhappy vote will either land us with Reform, although I think they might have peaked, or with a GreenLab.

God help us.
