A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Some of you may remember that I bought a robot vac in the summer. I named him Keir as he is robotic and sucks the life out of everything.

Well Keir has died. He needs to be returned and exchanged for a new model today. Perhaps its a sign? 😂
If only we could return the PM as not fit for purpose.

Edited

I love this 😂😂❤️

One of our neighbours has a robot cleaner; of their cats routinely rides round the house on it.😳

😂
You should get one for Rodney.

😂 Good idea for his Christmas stocking. Not sure, though, there's one robust enough to carry a 28lb cat...

Haha, could ‘Kier’ be repurposed as a traffic control measure?

🤣🤣🤣

Labour’s biggest union donor has launched an attack on Rachel Reeves’ Budget for breaking promises to workers.

Sharon Graham, the general secretary of Unite, told The Telegraph that the watering-down of the Employment Rights Bill (ERB) meant that working people were now “unable to trust Labour”.

She warned that her members had noticed the “underhand continuation” of the “shameful stealth tax” represented by the freezing of income tax thresholds.

Have that!

It has to be close to checkmate, for our chess-loving chancellor.

I mean she should know, being national champion or whatever......oh hang on!

EmeraldRoulette · 29/11/2025 13:11

@TheNuthatch Keir died already?!

@DancingFerret I don't think there's a point to having a robot vacuum unless you've got a cat as well. (Just kidding - I live in a very small flat so it's not worth it)

@justasking111 I am puzzled - who is paying for all this office space? Looking at the plans for the new Liverpool Street station, my first thought was "who needs this office space", there's going to be a huge amount extra.

When you go into the City, you can see into offices with loads of empty desks and a handful of people. I have noticed that some of the hot desk spaces, the nicer ones, their charges have almost doubled since about two years ago. I don't know if that's because their rent has doubled? I was actually thinking that they must be in massive demand to be charging such high prices. In a lot of cases, I would imagine the company is paying for staff members to have a hot desking space - that's happening around my way in Essex.

I'm supposed to be doing some tidying and organising today. Well, I have done some. And I have stewed some plums with cinnamon. Now just having a tea break before I give tidying another go.

My New Year's resolution should be to sort out the constant lack of admin in my home. I just find it all so tedious. I find cleaning therapeutic but tidying is dull. I need a tidier!

Are you seriously suggesting that our hapless chancellor is telling another porkie?

She’s borderline pathological isn’t she?

GroundZero · 29/11/2025 13:20

DancingFerret · 29/11/2025 12:02

For those able to bear listening to her, Reeves is being interviewed by Kuenssberg tomorrow morning.

I am going to watch this, premised simply on it being akin to watching, say, Australia vs South Africa, or Scotland vs Wales i.e. I am happy for either to lose…

LK loves a pile-on though, so I am hoping that she does a right proper number on the ‘Lying Chancellor’.

We're all used to politicians fudging stuff been going on for decades. But this government has elevated it to outright shameless deceit day in day out.

Yes, and the best part is, they genuinely believe that the electorate is unable to see it.

percypiggy200 · 29/11/2025 13:42

Why do we think JPM has announced this new £3bn tower in canary wharf? I mean I’m sure Jamie Dimon knows what he’s doing - maybe considering it was announced the day after the budget it was a “we will commit to this investment if you agree not to raise the bank levy.” But it’s very much in opposition to the prevailing direction of travel I think.

If the Guardian and the BBC are throwing light on the scale of the deceit. They're better at reading the room than the labour leaders.

I believe they've deceived the bulk of their MPs as well.

Upstartled · 29/11/2025 14:07

Totally unsurprising results to the question of how chaotic this government is but good to know in the face of denialist claims that things are going well for Labour.

I know JPM well, and they don’t do anything for altruistic reasons.

So, yes - some concessions must have been made. A risky trade given Reeve’s tenure.

I look forward to the day Phillipson’s perma-smirk is wiped from her face.

A private school in Ipswich has become the latest victim of Labour’s VAT raid.
The Meadows Montessori School wrote to the parents of its 68 pupils this week to tell them of its “shock” closure at the end of the term, citing rising costs and falling pupil numbers.

The co-ed school, which was forced to pass the 20pc levy on in full, said the raid had had a “significant impact” on enrolment numbers which meant the decision to close had become “unavoidable”.

In a letter to parents, headmistress Sam Sims wrote: “I know this news will bring shock, sadness, and uncertainty. Please know that we share these feelings and understand them deeply.

“Our priority now is to support every child, every family, and every member of staff through this transition with care, compassion and clarity.”
Ms Sims had previously warned that Labour’s education tax was misguided and would serve only to harm smaller independent schools rather than historic, wealthy institutions.

‘Dirt on someone’s shoe’
She described findings by this newspaper that Eton College stood to recover at least £4.8m in historic VAT on capital expenditure as “outrageous”.
She told The Telegraph: “How does that even stand? I feel like we are a little bit of dirt on someone’s shoe. There is no thought process from anyone in government about schools who are not at the level [of Eton].”

GroundZero · 29/11/2025 16:24

The Tories have launched a petition urging Sir Keir Starmer to sack Rachel Reeves after she was accused of misleading the public over the state of the country’s finances.

The party has set up a website, SackReeves.com, for people to register their displeasure with the Chancellor.

Surely this is misappropriation of public funds for political purposes.

Could be. I just think arrogant and in their own bubble. Think retired public sector workers on cushy pensions. Welfare claimants that need the state and are lashing out. They thought the gravy train would carry on forever. It’s now pretty unanimous that no-one is backing Labour and the public are angry. Their own party did that. Lied to increase taxes on workers to increase benefits. Of course that went down like a cup of cold sick. They are lashing out to deflect that they are in a minority.

Then again, I don’t feel sorry for them. Labour supporters in general brought it on themselves. Sneering, abuse, calling people, scum, thick, racist, etc. They have the hostile environment they created and deserve. The public are angry and are now questioning the welfare bill and want it cut.
