Tax TAx TAX!!!!!! Fuming at our government!

1000 replies

Baldylovingbeard · 26/11/2025 13:29

please try and convince me otherwise…..

What a joke this government are!!! ( UK)

Let’s just tax everyone who earns a bit of cash!!! Oh and while we’re at it… go on have loads more children it’s ok others will pay for them!!! Cutting the 2child benefit cap! If you decide to have multiple children you should be able to afford to provide for them. NOT expect others too!!!!! If you fall on hard times and you’ve worked and contributed to paying tax than you are within your rights to claim tax this is what benefits were made for, it’s not a means to not work, have more kids….etc!

Oh and if you work really hard and want to put some money by for you later days in life…. You’ll be taxed!

My situation:
Part time work, full time mum to 1 child. I work for myself and earn around 10k this money usually pays for things our daughter needs… clothes, clubs, any treats.
Husband works long hours, his under a lot of stress with his job, he has worked his way to and earns a very good salary 100k he gets taxed 60% you do the maths on that! We live in a 3 bed around £280k so nothing crazy but live within our means. We have one car! One holiday a year! Put money into savings! Pension! our daughter goes to one after school club. My husband got kicked out of home at 16…. He has worked with no help from family or friends and I believe he has worked very hard to get to where he is now. we are generous with charity’s and try our best to help out when we can if we can!

So sick of this ridiculous drama. Especially by people like the OP who clearly know nothing about tax rules. Get a grip. Im a medium earner, im happy to pay tax because I want to live in a country with functioning public services and I’m happy to support those who need it. When did society become so fucking selfish.

This absolutely this. It is sickening.

Look at successful societies in Scandinavia - they have a whole different mindset - they value community and recognise that they have to pay tax to have a cohesive society.

They tax everyone a fair amount. Not just the same people more and more.

It’s not ‘sickening’ - what’s sickening is working 50hrs a week and taking home less than someone else doing fck all on benefits.

Most good people agree we need to pay tax for the benefit of society and those in need. But you’d have to be pretty stupid to think it’s ok that people are better off on benefits than working, paid for by those who work. Economies can’t function that way.

We have an ageing population. Unless we decide to start bumping them off .....

I said nothing about old people. They’ve paid in to society for a long time.

And I don’t know what to make of anyone that doesn’t support measures to help inpoverished children 😔

It’s going to cost 3 billion a year removing the cap, tax payers also have kids that’ll be impoverished by these ridiculous tax rises it’s a joke. Shit happens I get it I had my first at 16 but didn’t have anymore till I was older and financially in a better place. What’s with these grown adults having numerous kids expecting other people to pay? The two child cap was reasonable but how did you not learn your lesson the third time

Read more about Scandi.

There are some very key differences:

  • they tax lower and middle earners MUCH more than we do in the UK, hence it's not the same small group of high earners paying for everyone else
  • all services are equally available to everyone, unlike abrupt withdrawal of free childcare after 100k
  • their welfare payments depend on previous contributions, not means tested
  • crucially - their welfare payments are very time limited, I believe up to 9 or 12 months. After this you must find a job. If you don't, you'll be given whatever job by the state and you can't refuse, there won't be any benefits payments for you.

I'd be all up for such system.
But it's ideologically so very far from what's going on here.

Oh, and btw - there is no IHT in Sweden and Norway and only a nominal one (7-10% above a generous threshold in Denmark and Finland). So you have motivation to do well to pass your wealth to you kids. Unlike here - you saved a bit and it's 40% on it.

Oh, and another one - social care is not means tested in Scandi either.

It's another world, everyone contributes, not just top 10% who pay 60% of all tax take.

Given that the benefits cap is £25k (most of which covers housing costs), the only people better off not working are those who are disabled or caring for disabled children.

Personally, I cannot get too annoyed about that.

You also have to factor in the lack of workplace or private pension, lack of promotion/career growth opportunities, and lack of ability to purchase a home that people in long-term unemployment face.

When you count all of that, even those on the highest rates of welfare would be better off working.

Scandinavian countries pay highbtax butvthey also expect you to work unless you absolutely cannot. Having a sense of community means everyone contributing. Not a few people being hammered on all sides while other people just take as much as they can. In order to have a Scandi society you have to have Scandi fairness for everyone.

The cap does not apply if a household earns at least £846 per month after tax and National Insurance contributions while claiming Universal Credit.

So working then? They are better off because they work?

Apologies, I thought you said people would be better off not working.

Of course not but some will insist that just shovelling money at people like that will somehow improve things.

I dunno, not having their power cut off because of debt seems like it would be pretty helpful for the children to me.

This govt is a joke
If you get off your backside to look after yourself you get f k d
I have voted Labour all my life
Destroying the economy#
Shafting anyone who tried to look after themselves
NEVER EVER AGAIN

The economy was fucked by successive tory governments and these guys have to try and fix things. What do you actually suggest they do then?

Given a very clear pattern of terrible decision making by these 'parents' it seems unlikely that they will spend their new handout wisely.

I don’t think so at all - there’s more than one family in that article btw. I don’t feel sorry for women who have multiple children they can’t afford. Condoms are cheaper.

If taxing our joint 130k income more means low paid workers pay less, I’m ok with that.

Here here. Husband earns 3x what I do, but I would gladly pay 2 pence more in my tax pound to lift children out of poverty. We aren’t as comfortable as we might be on paper either, supporting our adult son with mental health problems. I know without us, he would not survive and I want a safety net for those other young people struggling who do not have that family structure.

dottiehens · 26/11/2025 22:28

Namechange234567 · 26/11/2025 15:17

We have a much lower household income than you, but I'm happy we're paying more tax.

I don't believe anyone should be pissed about not having multiple holidays when children are growing up in poverty. I'd rather live in a decent society

May be try to educate the people having children they can’t afford. That would be a very civilised society.

I don’t, I think the two child cap was reasonable, yeah I had one child I couldn’t afford but I was very young. These grown adults twice the age I was having multiple kids while expecting everyone else to pay are something else though. How did you not learn your lesson the third time? It’s going to cost 3 billion a year
