Tax TAx TAX!!!!!! Fuming at our government!

1000 replies

Baldylovingbeard · 26/11/2025 13:29

please try and convince me otherwise…..

What a joke this government are!!! ( UK)

Let’s just tax everyone who earns a bit of cash!!! Oh and while we’re at it… go on have loads more children it’s ok others will pay for them!!! Cutting the 2child benefit cap! If you decide to have multiple children you should be able to afford to provide for them. NOT expect others too!!!!! If you fall on hard times and you’ve worked and contributed to paying tax than you are within your rights to claim tax this is what benefits were made for, it’s not a means to not work, have more kids….etc!

Oh and if you work really hard and want to put some money by for you later days in life…. You’ll be taxed!

My situation:
Part time work, full time mum to 1 child. I work for myself and earn around 10k this money usually pays for things our daughter needs… clothes, clubs, any treats.
Husband works long hours, his under a lot of stress with his job, he has worked his way to and earns a very good salary 100k he gets taxed 60% you do the maths on that! We live in a 3 bed around £280k so nothing crazy but live within our means. We have one car! One holiday a year! Put money into savings! Pension! our daughter goes to one after school club. My husband got kicked out of home at 16…. He has worked with no help from family or friends and I believe he has worked very hard to get to where he is now. we are generous with charity’s and try our best to help out when we can if we can!

A single pensioner (relying solely on SP) is expected to live on £12k so I am not sure why it is so outrageous to think that a single 20 something could live on £22k.

Edited

Pensioners have had their entire lives to accrue assets and put funds aside for a private pension.

Pensioners have had their entire lives to accrue assets and put funds aside for a private pension.

Slight difference here is most pensioners either own a house, have cheaper rental housing ( HA or council) and often have had bits of inheritances or bits of private pensions. They also can get proper rental allowance against rent/council tax if renting, not expected to have a room in a shared house unless they have kids.

Sweeping generalisations about pensioners. Some have, many haven't.

Can you give us all a sensible answer.

How much tax do you (your household) want to pay.

You don’t appreciate that you don’t pay any. You don’t appreciate that your husband earns £100k+ and has to put some of that back in. You don’t want your assets (after death) to be taxed.

What do you want, zero? 10%? 20%?

How much of your husbands wage do you want to keep. Because if the answer is all of it, you’ve lost your head.

lol, has the op disappeared once she’s realised she was wrong all along? I was cringing for her throughout the thread. Lots of you are very very kind, explaining it so slowly, patiently and repeatedly throughout.

Ohh noo I didn’t disappear I was watching Martin Lewis to catch up on my tax skills…. I think the fact you all latched onto that fact I mentioned my Darling husband wage is funny. I know how much he gets, I know how much tax he pays….. anything over £100k bla blandness get his £12k allowance which inevitably means it’s 62% he pays and therefore after £125k it’s 45%… yea yeah!!! So boring now.!!!

If you’re all so interested in how much he gets paid I can tell you all how many bonuses he gets!!!! What else we spend our money on???

bitterness is really a nasty trait. I would hate to see things through them eyes.

I just want a fairer system for all parties. But it’s ok we will ( oh I mean my DH because let’s face it I don’t need to work) will work hard and pay loads of tax! Oh and I promise not to ever moan again…. Ever!!! Because only you lot are allowed an opinion!!!

That’ll be a no to the sensible answer then.

Thank goodness we’re running out of space for exclamation marks and “my husband is great” posts.

You’re right I don’t pay any at the moment but What I also don’t do is get any benefits! So where does that leave me?
I’ve worked since the age of 16, hard worker, never claimed, and now I’ve chosen to not work full time because I have a child. I’m the bad person now? You lot really need to get a grip! Head down your local council estate… sit outside someone’s house who has 5 kids, 2 dogs, fags coming out there ear holes, brand new car on the drive….. and so and have a go at them for NOT contributing!!!

I married a man that’s pays enough for 10 of you lot so do one!

If you’d just accepted you were wrong instead of telling everyone else they were wrong, people wouldn’t have had to keep explaining tax to you and it wouldn’t have got boring.

I don’t need to, I grew up on a council estate, I know what they look like.

Actually my household of two working adults paying tax at higher rate contributes more tax than your husband. So no, he doesn’t pay enough for even two of us, let alone 10.

Never claimed in my life. Worked since I was 16, continued to.

I’ve been a HRT payer for over a decade. For context, I’m 36. I out earn my partner by over 30k.

Anyway. Back to tax amounts you’re happy with?

If bonuses were tax-free, it would be engineered so that everyone would earn a small salary and a huge bonus. A bit like people paying themselves in dividends for lower tax. Do try and think it through.
