Tax TAx TAX!!!!!! Fuming at our government!

Baldylovingbeard · 26/11/2025 13:29

please try and convince me otherwise…..

What a joke this government are!!! ( UK)

Let’s just tax everyone who earns a bit of cash!!! Oh and while we’re at it… go on have loads more children it’s ok others will pay for them!!! Cutting the 2child benefit cap! If you decide to have multiple children you should be able to afford to provide for them. NOT expect others too!!!!! If you fall on hard times and you’ve worked and contributed to paying tax than you are within your rights to claim tax this is what benefits were made for, it’s not a means to not work, have more kids….etc!

Oh and if you work really hard and want to put some money by for you later days in life…. You’ll be taxed!

My situation:
Part time work, full time mum to 1 child. I work for myself and earn around 10k this money usually pays for things our daughter needs… clothes, clubs, any treats.
Husband works long hours, his under a lot of stress with his job, he has worked his way to and earns a very good salary 100k he gets taxed 60% you do the maths on that! We live in a 3 bed around £280k so nothing crazy but live within our means. We have one car! One holiday a year! Put money into savings! Pension! our daughter goes to one after school club. My husband got kicked out of home at 16…. He has worked with no help from family or friends and I believe he has worked very hard to get to where he is now. we are generous with charity’s and try our best to help out when we can if we can!

you see, this is exactly your mindset - that what some of us achieved are just luck and/or privilege.

FYI - I've been a carer for over 20 years, one of my DC has disability. I grew up in severe poverty with my parents going hungry to be able to feed me. I just worked both very hard and smart all my life to escape such poverty.

But you're welcome to believe it's luck or privilege. The issue is that as long as you believe it you'll never progress.

Edited

And wouldn’t it have been so much better if you were taken care of

I’m in a privileged position btw - I too got away

you guys seem to want to go back there in some kind of fantasy about living a life like shameless

Doggielovecharlotte · 26/11/2025 21:19

You’re not alone.

People were warned by the Conservatives before the election, but were dumb enough not to listen!
I hated Starmer from the off as he wanted to overturn the democratic vote on Brexit, so I knew what a slimeball he was before he even got in.
Unfortunately all those that voted Liebour are now reaping the rewards.

Paying the price of Brexit

Remember it was gonna make the nhs and whole country great again

that doesn’t seem to be what’s being said here

It’s not privilege though, I work very hard for very little pay off. I feel trapped and depressed.

I feel the same way. I earn well over £100k a year and work so hard for it - 7.30am to 11pm is the norm at times. And the money doesn’t go as far as it used to. I feel panicky trapped and stressed almost all the time.

I still recognise that I am fucking rich compared to the vast majority of people, and that my money worries are rich people money worries, and my house is modest really but has everything in it I need, and it’s warm, and I don’t have to worry about feeding my family.

I hate the trap I feel I’m in with work - HATE IT - but I know I am lucky. Don’t want to pay more tax. Can fully see that my shoulders are broader than most.

Your salary is vastly different to mine. I work in mental health and I feel burnt out. But I’m sorry you work such long hours x

Overturning Brexit is about the only thing that will/can save us now. Sadly, I fear that ship has sailed. Even if we do rejoin, we will never have the deal we once had.

Attictroll · 26/11/2025 21:26

High tax earner and absolutely no problem with the changes. We don’t live in an expensive house or have an expensive car but we aren’t really status symbol people. We live within our means and have enough family and friends who deserve investment in public services to support them. I am a bit angry about the silly debates and media links and scare mongers which have made this budget toxic.

Rpop · 26/11/2025 21:27

Nickyknackered · 26/11/2025 13:32

That's a bit rich considering you work part time. How lucky you are that you married someone who can subsidise that choice you've made.

She has a child who only goes to one after school club!! She’d have to be part-time.

It makes sense for us and the EU just to have smooth frictionless trade in goods and services without the free movement.

Correctomundo · 26/11/2025 21:31

As an additional rate paying household (my DH, like OP I work PT) we are pissed with the changes. We're just biding our time till 2029

When you say “ do the maths on that” do you mean that his take home pay is £40k a year?

in the north a lot of average salaries start at £25k, and I’m sure they would be happier and less stressed earning the same for doing nothing…

Labour must go.

Over the next five years, the OBR is forecasting that welfare spending will rise by £73.2bn to £406.2bn.

I don’t know the finer details of how my husband’s accounts work but I know for a fact he pays 60% tax! He doesn’t get the 12k allowance, we don’t get any child benefits.

Even I know that EVERYONE gets the 12, 570 quid tax free allowance. Then you pay 20 % tax on earnings after that till £50, 270., then 40% on over that till £125k

Not a mission on earth is your DH paying 60% on his total earnings

AlexandraBee · 26/11/2025 21:53

This needs to stop. What’s the point in working?

Your DH is missing around £20k p/a if he only takes home 40% of £100,000, so he is either paying £20k a year into his pension or he is financing another family.

Mischance · 26/11/2025 21:55

So sick of this ridiculous drama. Especially by people like the OP who clearly know nothing about tax rules. Get a grip. Im a medium earner, im happy to pay tax because I want to live in a country with functioning public services and I’m happy to support those who need it. When did society become so fucking selfish.

This absolutely this. It is sickening.

Look at successful societies in Scandinavia - they have a whole different mindset - they value community and recognise that they have to pay tax to have a cohesive society.

How does this feel to post such ignorance with such confidence?

Please google "personal allowance over 100k". It's 62% tax actually, not on the entire income, but still

People moan about the state of services etc and then don’t want to pay tax. The most efficient countries with good quality of life are high tax countries.

I do want to pay tax and I want to help people who really are struggling! I want the system to be far though and not have people taking the piss.
