Tax TAx TAX!!!!!! Fuming at our government!

1000 replies

Baldylovingbeard · 26/11/2025 13:29

please try and convince me otherwise…..

What a joke this government are!!! ( UK)

Let’s just tax everyone who earns a bit of cash!!! Oh and while we’re at it… go on have loads more children it’s ok others will pay for them!!! Cutting the 2child benefit cap! If you decide to have multiple children you should be able to afford to provide for them. NOT expect others too!!!!! If you fall on hard times and you’ve worked and contributed to paying tax than you are within your rights to claim tax this is what benefits were made for, it’s not a means to not work, have more kids….etc!

Oh and if you work really hard and want to put some money by for you later days in life…. You’ll be taxed!

My situation:
Part time work, full time mum to 1 child. I work for myself and earn around 10k this money usually pays for things our daughter needs… clothes, clubs, any treats.
Husband works long hours, his under a lot of stress with his job, he has worked his way to and earns a very good salary 100k he gets taxed 60% you do the maths on that! We live in a 3 bed around £280k so nothing crazy but live within our means. We have one car! One holiday a year! Put money into savings! Pension! our daughter goes to one after school club. My husband got kicked out of home at 16…. He has worked with no help from family or friends and I believe he has worked very hard to get to where he is now. we are generous with charity’s and try our best to help out when we can if we can!

Because it was the single action the government could take to raise the most children out of poverty, and they did it. Anything that makes society more equal is a good thing to me.

You would love the USSR and North Korea then. Communism is the way to go for society to be more equal.

You could try out communism here with Reeves and Net Zero and have us all in mud huts within a decade.

When society has the balls to listen and/or develops the ability to listen without interrupting, without hurling abuse, without accusing me of being a 'far-right extremist and should be referred to Prevent' and/or without just being downright rude, uncouth and uncivilised, then I'll explain.

Until then, no.

🤣

SchrodingersKoala · 26/11/2025 18:36

You are barely earning and paying £0 tax, working pt is a luxury, go back to ft if you are struggling as a family. You are in the fortunate position that you are subsidised by your husband who earns well, I'm not sure you can complain, when your contribution through tax is currently £0.

this is a bit hyperbolic. The tax raises weren’t as egregious as I was anticipating. Although the venom she had for bankers bonuses made me chuckle as a banker myself

Anyone who thinks that the children being raised in poor households (that will benefit from the removal of this cap) are deluded if they think they are future contributors to the pot. They won't work just like their parents, but you can bet they'll go on and have handfuls of kids that they drag up and go on to repeat the cycle. They are nothing but a drain on the NHS, the education system, Social Services, the Police force and the court systems. The reality is that it's more money for gel nails, slug eyebrows, lip fillers/botox, banned breed dogs, vapes, lottery tickets and food deliveries for their parents... and not one penny will get spent on lifting children out of poverty.

But today we're celebrating these families and giving them even more money from the mugs who are working to fund them. Slow hand clap, Labour.

Wow.
You clearly have no idea about the demographic of people this will benefit.

The part that amused me most about that hilariously ignorant rant, is the assertion that you somehow fix this perceived problem, "break the cycle", by giving them less money.

And this is why I feel more and more that tax avoidance (evasion is illegal) is a moral imperative.

Which is why we can never solve things - the attitude and priorities of this group of earners

I can’t believe the poster had the gaul
to tell us that…

the irony “I know, I’m so cross I had to move all my investments” 😮

The cycle would be better broken by putting that into nursery education though right? This will allow mums to go back to work and set a good example to their children. I’m all for that money the government is spending to go into quality childcare.

I thought that they were lifting the 2 child cap on CB only for people on UC, or have I missed-read that somewhere today?

Correct I think

Absolutely.

It just amuses me that time and time again people whine about "hand-outs", as if making poor people poorer is somehow going to magically solve poverty-related issues.

WeatherDependant · 26/11/2025 18:47

cadburyegg · 26/11/2025 13:42

Research on the 2 child limit showed that it hardly had any impact on fertility. The number of children in poverty has increased since the limit was introduced.

So the idea that people happily have lots of children knowing the taxpayer will pay for them isn’t based in fact. What is happening is that people have 3 or more children who can afford them at the time then fall on hard times.

This 1000x times over. Children are not to blame. Nor should they ever be punished via stringent policies.

Jamesblonde2 · 26/11/2025 18:47

On the news now, a mother of 4 chuffed the 2 child cap removed. Saying the kids have suffered for years. With her lip filler, false eyelashes and eyebrows done, and highlights. No bloody shame. See our tax is being spent on the kids. Fuck me!

I dont think this is right - we must trust the parents to do the right thing with the extra cash. If they have made the decision to have a larger family, it’s because they are in a loving and stable relationship etc. They will allocate the money to raise their children properly.

We must have faith in this.

This is a very optimistic view. Many people with large families have clearly not made reasoned decisions. Certainly not ones that involved financial planning or risk management. If that were the case the cost of removing the Two-Child Cap wouldn't be an additional £3 Billion to find per year.

I would instead provide free school breakfasts and vouchers for new uniforms each year from approved stockists for families on Universal Credit. It would be cheaper and ensure the children are benefiting.

My faith faltered a long time ago.

Since when is working part time because you are a mum and married, being subsidized?

She's complaining about tax rises that she isnt paying! Part timer only thanks to a bloke she married. Hardly the moral high ground over the parents earning less than her who need help too. She's one divorce away from being in their position and are you telling me she wouldn't claim help? Of course she would!

More funding and an overhaul of the childcare system are needed, absolutely. Wales is still far behind England with funded childcare, and it puts enormous pressure on families in the early years of childhood.

In fairness how do you know the child benefit went on her beauty treatments? She may have spent her own money on that and used the cb for its intended purposes.

but I disagree with lifting this cap it’s just stupid. Far far better would be nationalise nursery provision and make it like schools, that would present equal opportunity the children of low income families would be fed in school (totally support extra subsidies for that) and then the squeezed middle wouldn’t be put off having more kids and women wouldn’t be leaving the work force or drop to part time to juggle childcare. Better for the family income and better for the economy but successive governments are too short sighted

squiglet111 · 26/11/2025 18:52

This might be controversial, but I think the government have done it to remove the draw of parents claiming disability for their children. The number of children that have ADHD, autism etc that get benefits has gone up massively. Some families with every child diagnosed with something. Not saying every parent is cheating the system, but there are some that are. Or bending the truth to claim for their children. If your child has a disability then the benefit cap doesn't apply to you anyway. So I bet a lot of the benefits already go on this anyway. So if they remove the cap, then these parents would get money for all their kids and won't look for ways to increase their benefits/ fight when it is removed.

Whereas, there are families working themselves to the bone full time, claiming some benefits but still living in poverty. If there are families with both parents working full time but still can't afford to live, then benefits should help them and bring their kids out of poverty. The number of these families with 3+ children living in poverty while working is probably minimal and deserve this help.

Well i have a sneaky feeling beauticians and nail bars will see an increase in takings.

So will local drug dealers. I live in the real world and see it.

This govt is a joke
If you get off your backside to look after yourself you get f k d
I have voted Labour all my life
Destroying the economy#
Shafting anyone who tried to look after themselves
NEVER EVER AGAIN

Who do you think will do any better without trashing our public services even further?

Nearly had me on that one

If it is the mother I think it is, it was just rage bait. They deliberately picked someone who is pregnant with baby no 5 and appears to be using the system as a way of life not a safety net. They also used images which would trigger as many readers as possible.

We actually need the birth rate to rise. We have an ageing population and is getting worse every year. The state pension was actually set up as a thank you to people for working their whole lives. It was set up in 1948 and the average person only claimed it for approximately 2 - 5 years before they passed away. Fast forward to today and the average pensioner probably claims the pension for 20+ years. It really is becoming unsustainable but each successive government doesn’t want to tackle it as pensioners are the biggest group of voters

We really don’t. The current problem hasn’t just been created by an older population, but by policy and decisions by subsequent governments.
we certainly have a problem with funding our increasingly older population, both now and in decades to come. We need to deal with this.
However, an increasing population isn’t sustainable for the country or our planet and will lead to lower QOL generally. With AI and other technologies, there won’t be jobs for all these young people. Even now, many people are net takers from the country, comparatively few people actually contribute tax above what they receive. Just having loads more children won’t help anyone.
