Baldylovingbeard · 26/11/2025 13:29

please try and convince me otherwise…..

What a joke this government are!!! ( UK)

Let’s just tax everyone who earns a bit of cash!!! Oh and while we’re at it… go on have loads more children it’s ok others will pay for them!!! Cutting the 2child benefit cap! If you decide to have multiple children you should be able to afford to provide for them. NOT expect others too!!!!! If you fall on hard times and you’ve worked and contributed to paying tax than you are within your rights to claim tax this is what benefits were made for, it’s not a means to not work, have more kids….etc!

Oh and if you work really hard and want to put some money by for you later days in life…. You’ll be taxed!

My situation:
Part time work, full time mum to 1 child. I work for myself and earn around 10k this money usually pays for things our daughter needs… clothes, clubs, any treats.
Husband works long hours, his under a lot of stress with his job, he has worked his way to and earns a very good salary 100k he gets taxed 60% you do the maths on that! We live in a 3 bed around £280k so nothing crazy but live within our means. We have one car! One holiday a year! Put money into savings! Pension! our daughter goes to one after school club. My husband got kicked out of home at 16…. He has worked with no help from family or friends and I believe he has worked very hard to get to where he is now. we are generous with charity’s and try our best to help out when we can if we can!

Why do I need to justify anything to you?

I have opinions, some people say they don't like them (although they're often too angry to convey this politely) and some people say they don't understand them.

If you make such a bold and controversial claim (that 50% of the population shouldn’t vote) - at least have the balls to back it up.

nowitsmetime · 26/11/2025 18:16

Another higher rate tax paying family here and apart from the scrapping of the two child limit was pretty disappointed that it didn't address inequality more. The tax threshold freeze wasn't a surprise but otherwise we are not particularly affected positively or adversely. Our home doesn't come even close to being worth £5million so no issue on that front.

Then you don't need to compell everyone else to pay more tax?

I’m not?

Anyone who thinks that the children being raised in poor households (that will benefit from the removal of this cap) are deluded if they think they are future contributors to the pot. They won't work just like their parents, but you can bet they'll go on and have handfuls of kids that they drag up and go on to repeat the cycle. They are nothing but a drain on the NHS, the education system, Social Services, the Police force and the court systems. The reality is that it's more money for gel nails, slug eyebrows, lip fillers/botox, banned breed dogs, vapes, lottery tickets and food deliveries for their parents... and not one penny will get spent on lifting children out of poverty.

But today we're celebrating these families and giving them even more money from the mugs who are working to fund them. Slow hand clap, Labour.

ReacherJack · 26/11/2025 17:21

I dont think this is right - we must trust the parents to do the right thing with the extra cash. If they have made the decision to have a larger family, it’s because they are in a loving and stable relationship etc. They will allocate the money to raise their children properly.

We must have faith in this.

I'm not sure if you're being serious or not. If you are being serious, how can you be that naive?

The majority of tax is being spent on pensions not benefits.

Well that's not true according the OBR. Did you just make it up?

When society has the balls to listen and/or develops the ability to listen without interrupting, without hurling abuse, without accusing me of being a 'far-right extremist and should be referred to Prevent' and/or without just being downright rude, uncouth and uncivilised, then I'll explain.

Until then, no.

Blueink · 26/11/2025 18:24

Your maths is completely wrong plus you are in an excellent position with nothing to complain about based on your OP.

There's a lot of evidence around child poverty and the lift in policy was guided by experts.

CJones11 · 26/11/2025 17:45

The benefit cap is still in place.

It's costed at £3 Billion a year. It doesn't seem to expect the Benefit Cap to affect it significantly?

Not exactly.

It's just one group of society are fed up of funding NHS for everyone. And then welfare for millions of others. And pay increased for public sector. Etc, etc, etc, the list goes on, it's always the same group of people paying for everyone else, and very frequently denied the very services they are funding for others.

Exactly. It's a fucking joke. DH has come home raging and is currently scowling at his laptop as he researches moving all of our investments Stateside.

My DB is a private wealth management consultant and says he's been snowed with requests from clients today, all wanting to move their money out of the country.

Well done Labour.

francy99 · 26/11/2025 18:27

We actually need the birth rate to rise. We have an ageing population and is getting worse every year. The state pension was actually set up as a thank you to people for working their whole lives. It was set up in 1948 and the average person only claimed it for approximately 2 - 5 years before they passed away. Fast forward to today and the average pensioner probably claims the pension for 20+ years. It really is becoming unsustainable but each successive government doesn’t want to tackle it as pensioners are the biggest group of voters

And this is why I feel more and more that tax avoidance (evasion is illegal) is a moral imperative.

Where are you getting a 60% tax rate from?

100,000-125,000 is an effective 60% tax bracket

We absolutely don’t. The economy is not one big Ponzi scheme. We need to tackle the 30 year period where there is an issue and then embrace the reduced population of the country.

I thought that they were lifting the 2 child cap on CB only for people on UC, or have I missed-read that somewhere today?

Nickyknackered · 26/11/2025 13:32

That's a bit rich considering you work part time. How lucky you are that you married someone who can subsidise that choice you've made.

Since when is working part time because you are a mum and married, being subsidized?

Where are you getting that figure from? It wasn't Child Benefit that was capped, it was Universal Credit child element.

The Two-Child Cap doesn't/didn't apply to Child Benefit. Why do so many posters wrongly think it did/does!

The Two-Child Cap was applied to means-tested benefits such as Universal Credit (UC).

Under UC a household can claim £3.5k tax-free per year per dependent child, if its income is sufficiently low.

Previously this was only paid for the first 2 children. Now there is no limit. So if there are 5 dependent children an additional £10.5k in benefits (tax-free) can be claimed per year.

There's no such thing as community said La Thatcher - have we not learned that without community and sharing the burden of everyone's needs we are nothing?

I'm no fan of Thatcher. The problem is not with the 'community' bit but the 'sharing the burden' bit. The burden isn't being shared, it's all falling on the middle.

After paying tax for over 30 years and never receiving a penny from the state, I am feeling increasingly like a mug.
